  • A quick video on the process I went through to repair a 1970 L6 Silver Block. Original diagnoses revealed a bad switch but as we got deeper we found more issues. Replaced the trigger/distributor, rebuilt the carbs, and replaced several fuel lines. Links are below for ignition switchbox testing and trigger testing. As always, Thanks for Watching!!!!

Great video, but you need to include the way to test the trigger and switch box.

buddy gave me a older boat with a 1978 90hp 900 tower of power. I wasn't sure if it was worth saving, every wire was rotted bad. I found a wiring diagram and after changing a bunch of short wires under the cowling due to rot. I got it running and boy does it run strong. I need controls and the lift mechanism does not work rams have water in them, the wires are all rotted not sure if pump works yet. I only have one working cowl clamp all the plastic ones are snapped. I need a good lower unit as well. Where do I get parts? would it be better for me to buy a parts motor or try and get everything off ebay?

I have a 1977 850 and recently replaced the trigger, but seem to be having some issues timing it now. The timing is at 2 degrees BTDC at idle, but advances way too far past the 27 degrees BTDC that is called for on this motor. When I move the advance, it only needs to go about half way before it reaches the 27 degrees, and then continues to advance well beyond the furthest point that the set screw can go. Any ideas or pointers? If there is any way for me to reach out to you directly, that would be awesome! Thanks!

Bottom my trigger has yellow wires under it yours are black, anyway wires have melted rubber covers where the wires and trigger meet. Is that from overheating?
