  • It's finally here - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sees Nintendo at the very top of its game, delivering a game that builds and expands upon the original Breath of the Wild in many different dimensions... but is the scale of the ambition really 'too big for Switch'...? It's great to see a more detailed break down on the performance and various techniques used to maintain this game - makes me excited what the future will hold for the series with even better hardwares down the line, as Nintendo and Monolith Soft have proven that they can work magic even with limited capacity.

Example: in the opening sky island the lod of medium distance geometry is far higher than necessary. They could make the background geometry simpler so the entire game doesn’t suffer.
They had options to design the game with better performance but they didn’t.
Then they do stuff like use high contrast yellow foliage in the opening area, which accentuates the jagged edges and upscaling artifacts. They’re just delusional at this point, not even adapting the art style to the system limitations.

Am I understanding this right that the game uses FSR to scale from 900p (or whatever is the rendering resolution at that point based on the dynamic scaling) to 1080p? Or is the base resolution 720p (as seen in those camera movement shots where the resolution gets dropped) and that gets FSR'd to 900p, then traditionally stretched to 1080p output?
I'm guessing it's the first because that makes more sense, but the video didn't make it super clear how the resolution is processed.
