She’s 100% right; our churches used to be a refugee for the poor, for the weak and the troubled. They played a major role in the communities, protecting our moral values and rights. However, money is the order of the day, morality has eloped our societal norms. They used to do this effortlessly with several styles of penalties; the consequences became a deterrent for the masses. Nowadays, there are little or no cultural or religious consequences; everyone in the society is running amok like a headless chicken. No true leadership with sense of true responsibility to drive the society to greater moral standards

The church is made up of people and it seems we have lost our way. Help us Lord to remember your commission, to love one another and go ye therefore and preach to all nations the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

yes we all must constantly return to the root virtues of our faith that is true. a world without religio and a collective connection to God is not an option for African people. we are chiefly a people of faith and no bad leader will change that. Africa is currently the most powerful part of the Catholic church as it has always been since the founding of Christianity. We Catholics must hold our leaders accountable by using our faith not by losing it. I hope Ms. Chimamanda hasn't completely lost her faith from the bad actions of a few when so many more are doing good in the African church.

The church organization should have cared for the deceased that was the point. They should done a good will gesture to the family like waving the fees, maybe donating money or resources to the family in a time where they are grieving. There several communities here that pay the deceased a certain amount for burial expenses but All the cared about was the patronage.

@@GodwinKonkwo - I give thanks. Intelligent, civilized minds know there is no physical existence without energies, forces, or wave frequencies. This is the spirituality that animates, drives and influences all living things. The connection between us and spirituality, as evidenced by every movement, motion, action and operation, is blackness. Everything is powered by blackness. Black people are endowed with magnetic powers, but are mentally detached from using it due to white religious indoctrination. All it takes is a few to converge their magnetic potentialities to make a global impact. Truth will prevail.

Until you lost your beloved one - you know how catholic church will handle your situation
They dont care about your grief, sorrow etc
You will see their priest so much centered all their energy on monetary aspect (To an extent they will plead with you to do donation the same day right inside the church) inside of sympathize with you

It is not happening in Catholic church alone. Many people do not preaching the correct gospel any longer. It is now all about money and materialism. I do not know whether they know that the Bible calls all these VANITY.
Yet they spend great preaching all the NONSENSE as against where people's souls will spend eternity once one dies. Or do they not know that souls live forever either in Heaven or hell ?
But You, it is high time you ran to Jesus for Salvation so that you will be set free from all these deceptions.

@@marthangafor6414 I'm in Cameroon and the Catholic Church has so many different alms and different baskets with names to collect money. When my aunt died the priest refused to do her funeral mass without her church contribution card. My mother is still catholic and complain every day about monetary demands. Maybe you haven't joined any group in church that's why you think they don't demand money

I think we need to hear the other side of the story from the Priest she just condemned. It will be injustice for us to take everything she said about Fr. Christopher Eze without hearing the other side if the story from Fr. Christopher Eze.

Religion is not about money, nor can silence replace justice. We live in a world deeply rooted in hypocrisy and rife with both subtle and overt injustices. Only heaven knows how many injustices and human rights abuses have occurred and been swept under the carpet. Lord, help us.

Thanks, Ngozi Chimamanda, for raising this issue about the way and manner Catholic church conduct service and themselves in Nigeria. When l visit Nigeria and attend Mass, l cringe.
It makes me feel sad because it is not the way l was raised and thought in a Catholic church l grew up and cherished.
It is high time they return to the authentic way of Catholicism. ❤❤❤
