  • The top food item we think of when we think of Maine is LOBSTER!🩞 And for our first day in Portland, Maine we not only tried lobster for the first time, but we also went on a lobstering tour with Lucky Catch Cruises and learned TONS about lobsters and got to help with the entire process to catch them, from baiting the traps, removing crabs from traps, throwing traps back out, banding their claws, and more! It was a BLAST!

    I love these "factory" tours, whether it be a lobster boat, a cheese farm, a brewery, whatever. It's fun to see how different occupations go about their business. Think about how much you learned about lobsters and catching them in just one day. Also, lobster > steak.

    I've really enjoyed these super educational videos of late. The cheese factory, the maple farm and now this Lobster boat. The stuff about finding a female with eggs attached and making the v s other fisher-folk know to pop her back in the water was fascinating, same with the male sizes. I had no idea! At 12:57 I was like 'Yes! Yes I did know that but only because I was listening on the boat!' đŸ€Ł I loved watching you guys discover for the first time how to crack into the lobster, watching in awe at what was coming out! Like you guys, I find lobster a little on the chewy side and I prefer the soft flaky-ness of fish so don't tend to eat lobster all too much given its price. (Yup... I'm basic, I know!) I can't imagine the hours you must have put into making this as I'm sat here trying to comprehend how I'd have worked out what to film, how to edit it together and my head hurts a little. It's shot right up on my bucket list of things I'd love to do in Maine, despite not being a lobster fan, the idea of going out on a working boat is fascinating! ❀

      We are so glad you've enjoyed these tour/educational vlogs! We LOVE making them and getting to experience how things are created! But you're right, they are a doozy to film and put together, especially when we cannot just stop the entire tour to have them repeat something and we're frantically trying to get tons of shots. But we are so happy with how this one turned out!
      You're not basic! Lobster is $$$ and in our next video we have lobster rolls, which were not cheap, but it was worth the splurge. Highly recommend this boat tour even if you don't love lobster. It's a ton of fun to just experience how they are caught and get to help!

    My funny lobster story. Last time we were in Maine, my oldest was 4 years old at the time. We went out for a lobster dinner. After finishing the meal, the waiter takes away my plate and the disassembled lobster shell. He asks us, “oh are they going to put him back together.” We’re like, “yeah buddy. He’s fine. They’re just going to fix him up a bit.”

    Huge kudos to you guys for trying so many Maine things off the beaten track! We actually found you guys through your Maine videos, and as local Mainers, we're big fans! Had to start from the beginning, but really fun to see you guys in our hometown.
    Pro tip to anyone coming to Maine to visit - you want to make sure your lobster spots cook the lobsters WITHOUT the bands. When you cook them with them on, they get a rubbery taste. A few really good spots to try are Days Lobster in Yarmouth and Erica's Seafood in Harpswell

      We very embarrassingly did not eat much seafood in Seattle 😬😬 I used to hate seafood, so we usually went to places we both would enjoy!

    Reminds me of the old Simpsons episode where Homer has a pet lobster named Pinchy...

    Took this tour several years ago courtesy of my daughter who lives in Portland. We had a terrific time but I came away wondering how lobstermen make any money given the (necessary) requirements that they have to meet.

      That tour was a ton of fun and very informative! That is a good question! Thanks for watching!

    Where would you recommend to take the test to get approved by FAA

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Pƙed 2 lety +2

      You can get FAA approval to fly as a hobbyist without a commercial drone pilot license (the apps AirMap and OpenSky allow you to request approval), but since we make income from our videos, Adam had to get the part 107 license. He took it at a testing site in Austin (the website for the license will list options).

      @@AdventuresofAplusK Appreciate that you're doing it the right way. I've seen many CZcamsrs flying in urban areas, out of line of sight, very unsafe.

      Am I allowed to fly like state parks without a commercial drone pilot license?

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      In our experience, most state parks do not allow drones. We always check apps like AirMap and OpenSky to see restrictions, as well as double check on the state park's website.

    The lobster should have been delicate not tough. Think they over cooked it. Try a roadside stand
 they are always better and cheaper. Also an lobsters roll .

      We have more lobster in our next video 😊 But we thought getting lobster right from the boat and getting it cooked was a cool experience we couldn’t have anywhere else.

    Did you know that Lobster was what they fed the prisoners back in the early days?? It was considered trash by the Europeans.
