All/most of the screenshots in the thread included 1.19+ blocks, so I don't think they've scrapped the idea.

new blocks can still be used for building, just like for example banners
@@wilhelmbetz3565i dont know how banners work, but you would not be seeing blocks from the latest versions in 1.8, so from my knowledge and experience this can go 3 ways: 1. You just crash, 2. Everything turns to Stone clientsided, 3. They code in a system that replaces blocks clientsided from higher versions into blocks that look semi similar that exist in 1.8.

The pictures of the island in the foraging and hunting threads show blocks from newer versions of minecraft, so they definitely did update.
The admin in deralious' video, deuces, left hypixel around the time of the crimson isle release, which was over two years ago. The dev team has grown quite a bit since then explaining how the foraging update is further along than they predicted.
agreed they also showed some features where you needed to dive in caves so that would require new swimming aswell
honestly I think updating skyblock to 1.19+ would be better, they can implement so many better things, a new hub, better features, plug ins and possibly different shields which would benefit tanks in dungeons. The’re would be endless content if they do update it but the only downside is the combat if they find a way around the combat I think it wouldn’t be that bad of a change!
You do realize that they have had a work around to the combat since 1.9 came out. You can play the server on 1.20, it’s just not ideal. Some small things like fishing are a little buggy but outside of that it’s pretty much the same outside of optimizations
I throw in my two cents Nitroze. I personally think the reason we have been getting so many updates is because they are going to update the version of the game. They want as much content for us as possible before they change the way the game has been functioning for years. That’s why we are seeing things that had never been really discussed up until they got released. Like the Mining update and dragons. I am assume they want all the content to have been working at in tandem with the foraging update to be put into the game before they update so they can see how it will all transfer and so we will have a lot of content while they take some time to work out the kinks and bugs from changing versions. Also they definitely haven’t scrapped the idea of updating because there are newer version Minecraft blocks displayed in the most resent teaser images. Cheers

Because we know more... we know less? What does that even mean brother. The reason they didn't talk about it being in the later versions was because it was OBVIOUS. Just take one look at any of the screenshots. And why would they go out of their way to talk about that if they already said what they needed to anyways. About Deuces, he didn't even work on the foraging update, and the 2025 estimate was for the FULL release of multiple islands, he stated it could come out sooner if it was split up. Given that in one of the design threads they specifically mentioned they would be focusing their efforts on the first island, I am lead to believe that the first island of the update will be released on alpha first. Anywho, why would you take Dueces word for it, who hasn't been at Hypixel for years, instead of the Admins currently developing the update?

They havn't given us pictures of houses and other places that are going to be on the new islands just to not use they use stuff as recent as current updates

Didn't hypixel also make a post about some false inventory wipes which were caused by 'the preperations for the version upgrade to 1.20.5' ?
Or was that just the normal thing the server does with every new minecraft version?
They are upgrading versions on Foraging update as seen in screenshots from the design thread. However, the post about false wipes was referring to allowing connection to Hypixel with the newly released 1.20.5

Honestly, I might get close. My computer couldn't handle 1.19+mods, and playing skyblock without mods at this point would be depressing.

source: i have a bad computer and playing mods with fabric and sodium gives me significantly more fps than foreg and optifine
