  • Mau Mau veteran Hanna Wambuku explains that the main grievance that led to the war of liberation was land which at that time had been taken by European settlers. Wambuku had initially gone to Nairobi and settled in Bahati, an estate reserved for Africans, but was forced back to her village in Murang'a by the tough restrictions imposed on movement for the Gikuyu, Embu and Meru peoples. She tells of the process of villagization and the hardships encountered by the whole detained community, and the corruption of the colonial guards and administrators, and how the villagers found themselves between a rock and a hard place as they tried to cope with both the demands of Mau Mau fighters, whom they felt obligated to support, and the colonial homeguards, who enforced colonial rule and their own whimsical demands. She also talks about Kenyatta, his wife Mama Ngina and the birth of Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Colonizers left In a hurry and at night for the fear that Maumau had meted on them . God bless Maumau cos the independence that we enjoy today was at their expense.

@maumauchronicles4296 Our primary identity is consciousness, be it that who thamas at night or does not thama at all. You are them!
