Reading have confirmed their withdrawal from the Barclays Women's Championship next season and they will play at Tier 5 of the women's pyramid instead due to needing a further ownership cash injection to compete at Championship level.

This comes after Arsenal announced they’re going to have the biggest stadium in the world in the women’s game at The Emirates. Chelsea has a world class infrastructure and the players to go with it. Even Liverpool after the owners ran the women’s division into the ground despite winning two league titles and losing some of the biggest names in world football, have re-invested in world class infrastructure and playing staff. Clubs like Charlton, Bristol City, Oxford United, Burnley, Portsmouth, Newcastle are investing in their teams and plan to move to their main stadiums permanently. Utterly disgusting from Reading’s owners who’ve run the entire club into the ground. One director took a salary of £213,375 in the 2022 accounts and in 2021 the highest-paid director took a salary of £530,667 from companies house accounts. Well done to fans that fought against the decision and demanded the club be sold. Just because the men failed badly, the women (who actually have done really well in both Super League for years) were punished. Just weeks after the u-21’s won the league and cup double, they dismantled the entire academy, all those young players, coaches and staff lost their jobs / careers for nothing. This is a club that had the likes of Fran Kirby, Mary Earps, Natasha Dowie and Fara Williams pass through its doors. Extremely sad day for English football, especially after the three successful years the Lionesses have enjoyed as of late.

Dai Yongge once again shows himself to be an awful businessman. His third club to go to the wall, and the Reading FC mens team will soon be the fourth out of business.
Make no mistake, talk of playing in the fifth tier is just another in a long list of the lies told by Dai, his sister and their puppet C.E.O. Dayong Pang. They will not play a single game this season in any tier.

How is it despicable? unfortunately the women’s team isn’t profitable enough and we all know the problem with readings ownership they are hardly keeping the men’s team afloat. Owners of football clubs are business people and make business decisions few clubs can afford to subsidise the women’s team it’s effectively throwing money down the drain. They need to make the product more appealing and get more people in stadiums to earn their own revenue.

    • @dajo8723

@leepowell1408 Dai Yongge isn't a business person. He is a man who got rich from a tax loophole, not through any skill as a businessman.
He has let multiple players leave Reading Football Club on free transfers, two of whom moved to Bayern Munich and Porto. He has signed players on contracts far in excess of their actual worth. Since 2017 he has wasted millions upon millions of pounds and made a club that was in a Championship play off final when he took over into a laughing stock. It was easier to succeed with Reading Football Club than it was to fail, and he has not only failed, but done so spectacularly.

There’s a team in the championship, unconnected to any men’s club that just signed the Sweden captain and the former Lyon and PSG manager.
Some clubs have seen the potential of growth in the women’s game and are investing in it in order to benefit from what’s to come whilst others are pinching pennies.
The attitude of owners towards investing in their clubs is no different in women’s football to men’s. Some owners are prepared to invest to reap rewards whilst others don’t want to put in a cent even if it causes inevitable failure on the pitch.

Football is in the entertainment industry. If you don't make money, you're wasting your time. The question is can the woman game stand on it's own two feet do you get enough people watching? If not, then do you prop it up so you have a political correct out come. It then starts to look a little bit like the women's basketball ball league in the USA.
