This was part of a hidden video link in my Early Medieval Guilds video and about 1k of view found it. But now, since it's Christmas, I am making it public for all of you. Hope you enjoyed this very short video :)
Yes, I did thanks. Merry Christmas.
i knew it sounded familar! merry christmas m laser!
Thanks! Haha was wondering how i upvoted a video that supposedly is a few hours old
Oh thank you
I love how hermits by modern standards are considered strange and smelly people, where as in medieval through to ancient times (considering the one Alexander met) they’re actually usually government employees, pretty wise, and considered like monks
Everyone was smelly back then.
Lmfaooooo i was like “must have missed that video”
Well you might miss it in the future :) but for now you just get to know about medieval hermits.
@@MLaserHistory I’ll take what I get. I’ve also had a rough 2021 as well, so i know how you feel
OOoooOOOh so THAT'S where the idea of bridge trolls and their tolls came from!
"Man was born for society. However little He may be attached to the World, He never can wholly forget it, or bear to be wholly forgotten by it. Disgusted at the guilt or absurdity of Mankind, the Misanthrope flies from it: He resolves to become an Hermit, and buries himself in the Cavern of some gloomy Rock. Ah! no, Rosario. No longer sustained by the violence of his passions, He feels all the monotony of his way of living, and his heart becomes the prey of Ennui and weariness”
― Matthew Gregory Lewis
working a full time job is also a monotonous way of living that makes one's heart become prey to ennui and weariness, but ok.
Wow, what a beautiful story to hear. Hermits the background i enjoyed it all, now im gonna head to ur other vids thanks to this one. Nice one man
It's beautiful to hear that the belief that one could obtain salvation by a life of frugality and solitude got corrupted into ripping people off for profit while believing that they were still on the path to salvation? Er... OK.
Hey that's St. Seraphim! Fellow animal lover. Love him!
Seraphim of Sarov, intercede for us sinners!
Understandable, have a great day
Many times I have considered being a hermit
I was bamboozled.
I was very happy to see St. Seraphim of Sarov featured in this video. He is one of Orthodox Christianity's most beloved and treasured saints!
Very well presented. Hermits in Spain where called Ermitaños, and were monks that decided to go on their own to live into the wilderness. They used to build small stone churches there, called Ermitas, where they lived, far from villages or towns. There are thousands of Ermitas in Spain, many well preserved and still in service. People used to do pilgrimage to this places as a promise to god after some fortunate thing happened in their lifes, or to be married in secret by the Hermit, for young couples that wanted to escape from arranged marriages. Today, there are couples that decide to get married in those Ermitas, and it is considered very romantic. A priest from a village near by the Ermita is usually the one that has the keys, and performs the weddings.
Great video! Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas
Hermits live aways form people because thay hate people or social interaction

Merry christmas M Laser!

I want more on this topic pls
Ironically, the creators of this video is a modern day hermits
Medieval Hermit life seems fun compared to Modern Hermit life
you sneaky devil
love your channel so much !
thank you for teaching me proper history. unfortunately i live in a country (saudi arabia) with garbage education especially that of history.
1) this is mainly about medieval Europe and most countries prioritize their own history in school
2) I didn't know this either as an American
I watched a video of your which was published one year ago and it looks like your pronunciation has improved a lot since then. How did you do that?
Maybe I speak better compared to a video from like 3 years ago but I feel like a year ago I spoke the same way.
Thats the ideal.situation for me!
dope
Lowkey im a hermit.
The original introverts
i want to see you on Nebula
by what authority would they extract tolls? ngl I'd just run through that bridge as fast as i could
Xmas eve special.
nice
Please explain the part in this video where the guy is feeding a bear? Was this romanticized hermit behavior? also great video please make more
He was a Russian 18th to 19th century saint, and hermit, called Seraphim of Sarov. So, you know, just doing the normal Russian thing and feedings some bears. I used the picture in the video because it's in the public domain and I needed some more pictures of hermits.
sneaky
🤠👍🏿
the link promised a video abouthigh to late med. guilds and we got a video about corrupted religious "hermits"
yeah, there was supposed to be a video about high middle ages guilds but I have not gotten around to making it, sorry.
@@MLaserHistory - still an informative video. Corrupted humans used religion as an excuse to line up their pockets? who could hve thought of that? I am shocked..shocked I tell you....weeeell not that shocked

Goodday
why youtube does not promote educational channels like this?
I don't know if its CZcams or the general public's taste. Like CZcams is definetly not helping but even the most popular history channels like Kings and Generals or Historia Civilis are much smaller than most science channels, not to mention vlogging, or tech, or make up, etc. In the modern day, with the promotion of STEM as the "useful" subjects to learn, combined with the emergence of short form content, like TikTok, there could be an argument made that educational historical content isn't very interesting to people.
If you can not stand to live by yourself, how can you live with others?
Why so short...? Was this a TikTok?!!

ok
_Hmmmmmmm_
U should make a tik tok where u post short vids like this ngl
I lived as a hermit (neet) for a couple years and I've got to say, the wisdom thing is highly overrated
Well-trafficked, hahaha. Let's sell the area into slavery ;) Well-traveled, my friend, I think is the word you sought!
Trafficked (Webster Dictionary)
transitive verb
A: to travel over
"a heavily trafficked highways"
Well-ratio’d
Do you like me, m laser history?
