a big problem with Homeless people is that most of them are Drgu addicts, when you get Shelters you need to follow rules, one rule is that you cannot do drugs there... so many homeless people get trown out or dont go there to begin with...

If there’s a law like that it applies to everyone but I suppose it’s not easy for them to go to court or find representation. The whole concept of a right to shelter isn’t feasible, it’s NYC there’s only so much space and way too many people who want to live there. This law is from a time when you probably got shot if you wandered into the wrong neighborhood, now everyone wants to live there. This right to shelter is a nice idea but is it really compassionate when you can’t deliver on such a promise?

WE already pay for 30% of Americans to be on some form of welfare as well. OH!! And I forgot to mention that we have a TON of baby boomers about to retire that are going to make social security, Medicare, and Medicaid difficult to fund too. Even when these migrants do get jobs (which they often don't and remain on welfare largely), they tend to be low wage jobs which means that they get welfare and other supplemental benefits...basically the cost to provide healthcare and provide schooling for their kids costs more to the tax payer than the money they bring in with their labor. Also, we are going to a more automated economy and are losing low skill jobs every day to tech. We don't need a lot of low skill workers in our current economy.

I told him that border cities are struggling to manage the flow of people coming in and we can't take them all. The New Yorker told me "That's what we send them money for, so they can do it." That's how I believe a lot of the border towns and states view the liberal sanctuary cities up north. Bleeding hearts throwing money at a problem, but crumble when asked to help physically shoulder the burden others have been having to carry for years. Willing to let everyone in...so long as it's not THEIR neighborhood that has to deal with it.

Personally, I think citizens of the United States, like most European countries, should be the number one priority of our government. We pay the taxes, most were born here, and we have a culture that is unique to us. It’s great that we’re helping other people in need of help, but honestly, it’s obvious where our priorities should be. Also, we give people asylum in that airfield for FREE because it is our ONLY resource at the moment, and people don’t even want to stay.

Abbot's making the problem far worse than the one Texas has. He's dumping people in the middle of the night on the streets with no warning with no one to process or track them. He's taking migrants that are all orderly, tracked, with paperwork intact, and he's wrecking all of that, meaning those people have to be found in homeless shelters, collected, and case workers have to put in countless hours of work to find out who they are, what their court dates are, and who is supposed to be handling their case in Texas. He's creating a gigantic problem for absolutely everyone involved, by throwing out a shit ton of work the federal government already paid for, and making everyone redo it, this time by playing a guessing game. He also receives federal money to handle migrants in Texas, that NYC doesn't receive. And he's doing all of this to try and get attention, because people like you don't know the difference. The low-education group was the most negative as the immigrants often took their jobs and high-education group was the most supportive since they considered themselves to be so educated that the immigrants couldn't do their jobs. But as more and more people with an immigrant background got an education and entered these high-education jobs, so did the attitudes of these workers become more negative. People are "tolerant" and "open-minded" as long as immigrants do not directly threaten their lifestyle.

Nobody cared when it only affected the border states. I had someone from New Jersey say it was our problem. I am a born and raised NYer, but moved out because of the taxes, cost of everything, etc. We don't get help from the federal government, so I'm sure you will understand why we don't want to send NYC money to deal with your crisis.

The way to 'solve this crisis' is for this administration to start enforcing our borders. This is not sustainable and is not fair to tax paying citizens!

You know what the crazy thing is? So far, this administration has turned more people away at the border than the previous one. It’s on record. I don’t know the answer but definitely something has to give.

The same. I'm a legal immigrant, worked hard to get where I am right now. But some people just come to the country without any skills or a desire to work, get food and shelter for free, and later become social allowance bums. Should not it be such that if you want to come to the country, you should go through the same process as everyone else (finding a job, enrolling into a university, applying for visa, etc.). Everyone should have equal rights no matter their background

What exactly do illegal immigrants get other than a temporary home and no job will hire them they can't legally work in the USA. U need to be grateful.
The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) makes it illegal for employers to knowingly hire or continue to employ undocumented workers.
