- Today I watch my channel go up in smoke along with the title skyscraper... Hopefully not literally, but I do dive into one of Irwin Allen's star-studded disaster epics for the first time. Come along with me as we fight fires, wreckage, and outsized Hollywood egos!
Starring Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire, Richard Chamberlain, Jennifer Jones, OJ Simpson, Robert Vaughn and Robert Wagner (yes, all of these people are in one movie)
Directed by John Guillerman

Robert Wagner's death and "that death" in the more recent Poseidon adventure will haunt me forever
Really comprehensive, well-done review. I have fond memories of seeing this first-run in a theatre with my Dad. He used to take me to lots of new films when I was in high school & university. My mother didn't care to go, but he did, so I made a convenient 'date'. Some of my best movie memories, from a decade of very good cinema! 🎥
Thank you! That's a great memory.
Did you know when the movie was being filmed, that a large fire broke out-either on set or nearby? The real fire fighters went to fight it and, as I remember, some cast members came to help including Paul Newman. Great plubicity !
Wow, I never heard of this! Cool! 😎
I did not know that, that's pretty amazing. Thanks for sharing!
@@HildebrandProductions I remember when it happened-it was huge news 🗞 and all the stars were being interviewed the next day! Another great review, btw. I remember going to see this in the theater at the time.
Actually, there's a quick scene in which the children's mother is seen on a gurney having made it out of the building. She lives. (Great review, by the way. I just stumbled across your channel and I enjoy your reviews). The movie is based on two books: The Tower and The Glass Inferno. The former is rather pedantic, the latter is written like a disaster movie.
I must have missed that, but I'm very glad to hear she survived! Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great review! Thanks! I love "The Towering Inferno." It is so entertaining and rewatchable. I first saw it in the theater when it was released. Since then, I have seen it many times. Years ago, it was available on Netflix streaming and I watched it frequently back then.
Thanks! I can definitely see myself rewatching it, it's got so much suspense and thrills galore.
Great review. I just rewatched this recently for the first time in decades, and really enjoyed it.
Thank you!
When Jennifer jones fell out of the scenic elevator, it traumatised me as a kid 😮
Lorrie the secretary diving out of the window on fire traumatised me when I was a teenager.
Very well done review. Your knowledge and obvious admiration of the cast was very impressive. Love this big glitzy survival adventure. And I agree that it holds up really well. Cheers
Thanks very much! I love these star studded movies from that era, and the best part is there are somehow always more to discover.
2024 is the 50th anniversary. I saw 👀 it in the movie theaters since OJ was in it.
A landmark film in the disaster genre. The scenic elevator sequence my fav part of the flick. I would love to see/hear your review about Airport 77 !
I've only seen the original Airport so far, I'll have to track down the rest of the series. I was just looking through the cast list of Airport '77 and realized it's got Jimmy Stewart AND Joseph Cotten. I've definitely got to see this!
@@HildebrandProductions im sure u would love it. It is a very 70s stylish flick, with lots of Academy award winners and nominees on borad and great suspensful plot. One of my fav films to watch as a kiddie. Fav actress Olivia de Havilland is there too.
@@HildebrandProductions Yes to Airport 75 and Airport 77. Run away from Airport 79.
I remember my mother talking about this movie enthusiastically just after having been to the cinema. I was a little kid then 😅
I love these 70s disaster movies. haha Great review.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You really nailed it with your review. Well done!
Prediction in 1974 that 9/11 could happen. Just like the 🎥 movie, the people on the top floors could not get out. It’s insane to build to 110 floors.
I saw this movie in 1975. It was a great movie.
Steve McQueen enters in this movie after 30 minutes and stole the movie by his performance.
I also like his movie " The great escape "
I always loved that movie and enjoyed your review, however, after what happened on 9-11, not sure I could watch it again.
Good video
