  • Who will replace Rishi Sunak? For the time being he will stay on as party leader until a new one is found, but if anyone was expecting an honourable campaign, it was off to a very bad start. Kemi Badenoch, the leader, attacked far right darling, Suella Braverman.

Sunak may have presided over the worst election campaign ever, but I can't help thinking that gaffes like the D-Day debacle and the annoucement in the pouring rain, were almost pre-ordained, so to speak. Boris Johnson or even Starmer might have survived such poor acts of misjudgement because the momentum was in their favour from the start, whereas Sunak and say Gordon Brown were both presiding over governments that were already on their last legs and predicted to collapse. Those individual events during the campaign make for great anecdotes and are perfect symbols for Sunak's failures, but I suspect the result including the actual size of the Tories' collapse, was set in stone some time before Sunak announced the election.

  • @robred19
    @robred19 Před 23 dny +2

This is a civil war that can only deepen.
The worst part, is that this war was supposed to happen 15 years ago.
You have a fractured right where the calamity of 2008 opened a Pandora box on the philosophical and ideological coherence of both Thatcherism and Capitalism.
The Tories and the rest of the right are stuck in headlights, as their adherence to a failed political project and system is simply corroding and crumbling around them. And the right are in a quandary as which way to turn.
Phil Moorhouse made an interesting observation earlier, stating that the Tories are losing to Reform but are also exposed to the potency of threat from the Lib Dems. All those seats in the Shires where 'culture wars', xenophobia are completely alien to the market towns and quaint villages of Southern England.
Then throw in the demographics, where the elderly have a strange habit of 'dying'. A bomb that resides at the very heart of the political right, inclusive of Reform - just look at the latter's meetings in pictures, 70 odd year olds...
The Tories whoever they pick will not only have to carry a 'ming vase' but they will be doing so with ever declining voting pools.
The Tories can try and reinvent themselves, as Cameron attempted in 2006. Yet he got his boost from the events of 2008. From an event ..a pretty rare type of event.
Yet Cameron's modernisation and his appeal as a 'compassionate Conservative' suffers now from one fatal flaw. That is, you can only strike a match once.
The Tories no longer have that avenue, especially after 210,000 Brits lost their lives to a pandemic in which the Tories partied away in Number 10.
So all the Tories have is the road to the right, in which to compete or join with Farage.
A fight, where the Tories from 2006 fed the monster of the hard right, kept feeding the monster and now that monster is setting up the dining table, in which to eat the Party that kept feeding them.
As that is what capitalism always ends up doing, devouring itself.
But the Tories are in a real bind, a real crisis - all of it...absolutely all of it, from their own making.
Thanks largely to Cameron, who should never have been elevated so high by the crooked establishment. The self-same system that ended up vomiting out both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, the latter who finally destroyed the undeserved Tory reputation for fiscal and economic discipline.
The Tories now face a new political landscape and the Labour Party have some damn good cards in their hands. Also the Lib Dems, if they can project themselves as competent and constructive opposition, showing a level of integrity, standards and discipline in contrast to the Tories.
As for Reform - they have the light of scrutiny upon them now and they'll burrow away at the Tories. As they're irrelevant to everybody else.
So, in a sort of conclusion. I just do not think the Tories can truly comprehend the utter disaster they are now staring at. And many...very many, will want to make the lives of the Tories as uncomfortable as they possibly can. As the Tories deserve every scintilla of wrath that will keep coming their way!
The Tories have to get it into their thick fckin heads - CRUELTY ALWAYS, ALWAYS COMES AT A COST!!!

I was trying to remember who badenoch & Suella remind me of. Then it came to me. The last scene in the film Death Becomes her with Goldie Horn & Meryl Streep walking down the church steps. I can't post a link of it unfortunately.

While he was wrong in how he called the election and how he campaigned but nothing was saving them from defeat. The public were sick of them and voted for Labour, Liberal Democrat’s or Reform instead. Only themselves to blame for how they have ran the country past 14 years.

All the while James Cleverly keeps his powder dry while Suella, Kemi, and Jenrick rip each other to bits in order to be the right wing candidate for leader. They could be preparing the way for a Cleverly vs Tugendhat run off.
