Well, at least me when i play phanton pain i very very rarely used a an assault rifle or any actual lethal firearm to achieve something. My Playstyle its sneak around patiently and pick enemies one by one tranq/choking everyone like a true snake. I very rarely kill someone, i mainly fulton/recruit everything i see or leave them sleeping on the floor. I consider that style the "true" metal gear style.

MGS "was" always one step ahead in the video games industry, always reinventing video games, adding new revolutionary mechanics and features, till the Konami Incident.
This game introduced pretty advanced survival, close combat, holdup/interigation and camoflage systems, and the atttention to detail was always on point, disabling radios, using the enviorment to your advantage etc.
and u forgot the hiding in foliage which every game nowadays copy and implement badly. this games survival/health treatment mechanics are best even toay.
Real time system of your console(killing one of the bosses, meal can become rotten,nightmares in prison)
Splinter cell handled environmental advantages better imo, with the shadow and sound system allowing you to entirely avoid patrols just by shooting out a single light.
Kojima was a genius
Agree, and with MGS5 they reintroduced many mechanics they already had in this game. And the attention to detail, but they robbed the game of it's soul and tainted mgs.
Makes want to go to the jungle and be stealthy.

My friend gave me this game after telling me it was "too hard" back years and years ago. I remember booting it up on my PS and watching this title screen thinking "whoooa, what did i get myself into" little did i know this became my favorite game and my favorite franchise ever.
I played metal gear (not Solid) without even knowing what kind of game that was.
Later i played mgs1 at a friend's place but being totally oblivious i didn't realize it was metal gear... Shame on me!
Some years later i read about "mgs4 and old snake"
I genuinely thought solid, liquid, old and naked snake were all different people fighting in some kind of PMC outfit in the game. I didn't know the background.
Then i bought metal gear solid portable ops.
I finally realized what game that was. Was happy i "re discovered it"
Sadly, like a week after i bought portable ops, we had a flooding and the disc was destroyed.
So I went and bought portable ops + because i thought it was kind of an enchanced version lol
Thought "i remember the game to be differently" 🤣
Didn't matter i played single player without an end, fell in love with tengu soldiers and the P90 (and hf blades)
Was awestruck when I unlocked old snake with his sopmod.
Got myself the HD collection and played all the games finally!!
Peace walker was great too, and finally MGS5.

I never played the first 3 including peacewalker until recently my first was actually MGS5 ground zeros right before the full game dropped i actually sucked so much ass at that game i wonder how i would have reacted playing mgs3 at 10

I really liked MGS2, 4 and PW. But MGS3 Snake Eater will forever be my favorite game.

I would watch this for hours, then one day I told my karate head cousin I Learned cqc from snake eater. He pulled a Morpheus and said show me. I dropped him clean on his back and we both looked at each other with a surprised look.

A Hideo Kojima Game
Hands down, one of the best birthday gifts I've ever been given. Takes me back to my sophomore days of high school, where I needed a break from RPGs. Then, I learned the tactics behind espionage and CQC. What a ride!

I remember renting this when I was 10 years old. Grew up watching my dad and older siblings play MGS1 and 2. The theme and the imagery just smacked me square in the face and sent shivers down my spine. So fuckin bad ass.

Most cqc moves in mgs series are are heavily dominated by japanese martial arts like judo, aikido, some karate techniques. Adding some muay thai to the mix, krav maga is mostly playing big part on disarm and control of snake skillset. There are a bit of CAR (Center Axis Relock) shooting technique but not too much shown or implemented to the game, mostly a close to perfection on the techniques are mastered by Sam Fisher, because of sam using the techniques to cqc approach and executing 3-6 person on instant mark and execute making him the only person who mastered Center Axis Relock to the core....
I watched the full 12 minutes. I finished my mission.
Konami, (Metal gear delta) took this away from us! Not a fan of the new title screen.
