We were out on safari about an hour after sunrise, and came accross a jackal stalking a baby tommy and it's mother. By the time we got the camera rolling, the jackal was in hot pursuit!
Don't feel sick. It's the circle of life. Gazelles get eaten by predators every day and nature doesn't discriminate. Fawns are a favorite of smaller predators like jackals and cheetahs. Sometimes the mothers will be eaten and the fawns will be orphaned and more than likely be an easy meal for another predator. And those predators will someday die and decompose into the grass that the gazelles eat. Just like what Mufasa said.
omg I can't believe you call us "butthurt" just because we don't think animals should be so barbaric. Are you honestly ok with the behaviour of carnivores??? Think before you answer.
@@tomtonka1915 That`s an interesting question. Can I answer for myself? Yes, I am honestly ok with the behaviour of carnivores. What other choice do we have? Man cannot raise carnivores to become vegans or anything. This is nature, and we should not interfere with nature even though human, being the crueles and deadliest animal that is, are f. up thousands of species and screwing up the planet. The jackal needs to eat in its innocence. It is made for eating meat. It was nothing personal about it. Heart breaking, sure. But unavoidable.
Lol who's getting butthurt? No one as far as I've seen has a top comment that is crying about the nature in these African wildlife videos. Just starting a fight to prove yourself right. Sad.
Makes me wonder if horns on the females would be more useful on species where it is only the mother raising the child. Even modest ones for impaling some predators.
There was a Tommy mom who fended off a baboon with her dinky little horns, and another one who didn't and her baby was literally torn apart in front of her and eaten. Also we have to factor in how flighty they are. 3-4 charges and she was done. She could have stomped and kicked and stabbed her way in there but she didn't. Too afraid.
Look at the other awesome video of jackals killing a baby gazelle. It was an asphyxiation and/or broken neck kill. I think they did the former as it wasn't moving when the jackal took a break to help its partner chase the mother off for a second. He then went back and finished the job.
Looks like the baby's neck was broken. Maybe Mom doesn't have horns, but she can knock you into the middle of next week. She was probably already tired from the chase, but the jackal kept dodging her and by then she had no fight left.
+Elizabeth .JustElizabeth Female impalas *have* horns, as this one definitely had, these small but pointy horns can do some damage, not enough to scare this tenacious jackal away...
That jackal broke all four of the Tommy's ankles; I keep rewatching this just to watch him (her?) juke what i am assuming is pretty quick and fast animal.
@BlueFlame1365 um....what? Obviously you don't know too much about canines. Yes pack canines like wolves will kill an animal through blood loss or shock, but a black-backed jackal is primarily a solo or pair hunter. Meaning it has to kill quickly and efficiently, here is a perfect example of that. The jackal grabs the fawn by the neck, either crushing its windpipe or breaking it's neck.
...This is sad, but I was stunned when I found out, that Jackals never eat their pray alive, unlike wild dogs and hyenas...So, I completely change my point of view on these animals...
It's nature ! Jackals not vegan like me ! The mother put up a fight but was hopeless so now the jackal can live and feed her baby pups who need meat daily ! Circle of life eat or be eaten if you don't like it then too bad cause millenniums the earth was like this and will be too ! They don't have the luxury to go to the store and by frozen meat take it home cook it and eat it ! Who knows next week the animals moved off and he will die slow agonising pain starving to death and her babies too ! Then what ? it's been like this before human walked the earth ! Before 1.2 million years ago the homo erectus ! Even the dinosaurs lived exactly like this ! Can you imagine a T-rex gats one them long neck brontosaurus ? Take him 3 days to kill it and 2 days to eat it ! 100's of liters of blood ! They suffered may be more and more slow death or when all went and died out very slow and all died in starvation ! Anyways I go and start my BBQ cause I make a kick ass burger from grinded sirloin meat and I spice it up ! Yummy !

Jackal was to smart for the mom..
At the first glance, I thought the video speed has been accelerated!
Poor mother Gazelle :( Nature is hard, very hard...
@CharlieQH only 8 likes in 12 years lmao
Nature is a deadly bitch .. but very beautiful!
filmed before the days of hi-res cameras (2007)
This jackal has ultra instinct lmao he dodged them all
What happened If mother know hakai
How long was it until the mother gave up and left the jackal alone with its kill?
Awesome! i once saw a cheetah kill a wildebeest calf!! Just like the jackal kills the Gazelle!!!! JACKALS AND CHEETAHS OWN
Day of the Jackal.
Yeah they obviously never listened to what Mufasa said about the Circle of Life at the beginning of The Lion King.
I love how butthurt people get on nature videos.
I love how smart asses like you in the comment section

A heartwarming story...

You should contact the manufacturer to upgrade the horns.

That adaptation would make sense tho

actuallythe jackel was walking like that so the baby's ears were shaking that's why the baby was like bumping around
Jackal doing the matador thing with mother gazelle.
The power of motherhood is unmistakably powerful
I'm glad the jackal was able to get the little thing.
So powerful that cannot defend the baby
The clever jackal avoided the attacks and got its breakfast

Jackals are badass
The jackal has a nice nutritious lunch. 🤩
LOL @ 0:48 jackal just grabs his food and leaves....
oh well, sucks for the mom...survival of the fittest bitch!
The Jackal probably said to the mother, "close, but no cigar!"
jackal say "oleee, olleeeee mymy gazelle, miss me another time mouahah oooléééé"

that baby was still alive shaking its ears
ohhh, i'm assuming at 37 seconds the thing is dead bc that jackel's gotta have broken it's neck right??? or is it strangelation.
I bet that mamma gazelle thought about how much it sucks that only the males have horns.
Might is Right ?

Why does it matter?
smart positionning, easy kill
Its mother is too weak to protect its baby!
Beautiful jackals
LOL in the beginning the gazelle is doing more damage to the baby than the jackal is.
