How To "Trick" to Make Custom Rope Handles for 5 Gallon Buckets,10 Easy Steps in the Description...

One of the first things I would say to have, for anyone with or without a boat, is a fishing bucket. This is one of the greatest multi-taskers you will use all the time and with a nicer handle, it will be more comfortable. That being said, customization of your bucket only ends with the imagination of the creator and is also a great place for stickers. I have one setup to double as a baitwell (conveniently I keep my cast net inside), one just for cleaning products/scrubbers, and one dedicated for my rigging baits.
The trick is sizing the washers relative to how much melted rope is needed to not pull through. A real tight washer won't need too much rope melted but, the looser the washer around the rope the more melted rope is needed to not crack and break and pull through under load. For extreme loads go right trough the bucket wall, it will not stack or be water tight but much larger ropes/washers are possible.
SETUP TO THE VIDEO:
1.) Size the rope based on the opening available in the lip/ring that runs around the bucket at the top (if your making it stackable)
2.) Tightly tape and cut off the rope ends (think about length of rope vs your preferred carry height)
3.) Size the drill bit/washers to a diameter slightly smaller than the rope when taped off
4.) Drill only through the lip/first layer only if you want it to be water tight and stackable or all the way through for strength
VIDEO STARTS:
5.) Run the taped end through the drilled opening from outside to inside (I like using a hook to "fish" it out of the small opening)
6.) Thread on washers
7.) Melt rope (aka the "trick")
8.) Allow to cool (to me this is the actual trick: DON'T BURN YOURSELF, dripping melted nylon is very painful)
9.) Pull rope handle tight into place...
10.) ENJOY!!!
