  • Hello everyone & welcome back to the channel. I’ve had a little break over Christmas & New Years and am ready to rock and roll again. First up this year we’re breaking down one of my favourite all-time artists Todd ‘The God’ Edwards!
    This is really my interpretation of his sample chopping technique. I know he famously used an Akai s6000 and now is mostly on Ableton but the newish sampler in Logic X is actually fantastic and worked perfectly for this technique.
    All the 5 star rated chops I used in the project will be up on my Patreon. As well as a whole bunch of Enya records I sliced up. Feel free to check out the link below, your support to help me make more videos like this will be massively appreciated 😊

    Hey, UKG producer here.
    The most important part of the todd's style is not the cuts, is the drums.
    Todd specially is know by the drums specifically with the hidden messages, not just random samples.
    Lately is being focused on sounds and basslines, but every single track the drums are unique. Great video tho.
    EDIT: all the tracks sound more like DJ Boring than Todd, but you get the point*

    • @groovining
      @groovining  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I agree Todd's overall production including the drums and bass is pretty unique but lots of UKG artists like Tuff Jam and Jeremy Sylvester achieved very similar sounding drums. There's nothing special going on there really techniques wise.
      I would say his people recognise a Todd Edwards song almost instantly by the sampling. The way he chops vocals & various records together is very original, espeically when he first started doing it.

    • @groovining
      @groovining  Před 6 měsíci

      Yea this is the technique. Match all the samples to the same key or sonic space inside the sampler. You can do this by ear or using Mixed in key like I did.
      Then you pitch around the whole sampler +5,+7,+12, -5,-7,-12. All these semitone values are relative to the circle of fifths where you can find keys that have 1 note difference from the one your working in. :)

      @groovining  Před 5 měsíci

      I use the Circle of Fifths to figure everything out. You can see how all the keys related to each other. I sometime do this by ear and also use Mixed in Key studio Edition.
      The main technique is to pitch around the sample until you find something that sound good or close to good. Then pitch it around +/- 5,7,12 semitones to see if it fits. 🚀✌️
