      Yeah, I bought those when they came out actually. It was pretty cool back then. The landscape was very different in 2009, and you just didn't see that many cool PC games come out anymore. Hell, the indie scene was still in its infancy where I could count the number of indie devs I liked on two hands, and they were quite obscure. World of Goo had only been released the year before that. The PC revival hadn't quite begun yet. So it was always exciting when a developer came out with something new and interesting, and I thought King Arthur The Role-Playing Wargame was pretty cool at the time, though I think my standards may have been a little lower back then because of the general situation.

      @Dragon_Lair Před rokem +5

      @@BlankaCentral It's fun. It's the type of game I enjoy.
      It kind of reminds me of the Divinity games with the whole action point system, and I enjoy the x and y axis morality system, where you can be a tyrant or more like arthur, follow the old ways or christianity.
      It's not the type of game that you can play more than once though. No matter what route you take you will experience effectively the same thing in reverse. Become more of a tyrant and you'll get the Black Knight or the Red Knight (great villains from Arhurian legends) but be opposed to Gawain or Lancelot, and vice-versa. When you go one route, you fight the opposite so you know exactly what you would get on the other side.
      Same is true for old ways vs christianity knights. The only way to get Galahad the chaste is to be a christian. He's not interested in the tyranny or the virtue of Mordred but rather their belief in god or the old ways, but Morgan le Fey can join Mordren who follows the old ways.

    Perfect review video, you really captured all of the point. I bought it at sale, I do think it's worth it and the size has also go down to near 40GB
    I'm not even finished with act 1 but the combat and the "go to this place, kill all the enemies" gets really repetitive for me, the combat itself is good but one encounter with an enemies is taking too long.

  • @jeremywootten
    @jeremywootten Před 2 lety +3

    Aside from the size and repetitiveness - I honestly have to say I really like this game and I want to see more DLC out of it and more games like it. It is fun, the randomized loot helps and with a bit of Mod support this thing could be one of my favorites of all time. Thus (for me) it's worth the price of admission to support the devs and get more of this kind of content and games. I do agree that more could have been done in terms of reactivity but I found myself surprisingly immersed in ways I typically only tend to get in CRPGS or X-Com2 with Mods

    Just wanted to drop a comment letting you know how much I appreciate this channel and your review style. Can't remember what video it was but I heard you say how you didn't like how so many reviews have too much "video essay" structure for lack of a better word. After seeing some of your reviews it really makes you realize how annoying and unhelpful so many many reviews are and how much fluff there is to them. I walk away from your reviews having a very clear picture about what kind of game the game is and how fleshed or not fleshed out it is in various aspects. It's really striking how much more informed I am about a game after your reviews and I how I kind of just have a sense of what a game is like from other popular review channels. (both large game website channels and the more popular multiple 100k sub channels)
    Anyway, these kinds of reviews are needed in the space and you highlight how poor some reviews are because they don't just get to the point; keep up the good work.

I think if the DLC factions were a bit more fairly priced it wouldn't have come to this, but Games Workshop greed killed a small studio again as the game suffered from poor marketing and, as I said, overpriced DLC for things that could have been in the base game. Really enjoying the game, although the game definitely needed some polish at launch, bugged achievements and some serious spikes of difficulty that were several levels higher than similarly leveled content. I want to do an iron man run but am going to wait a bit but some people were complaining about broken saves after some of the patches so I'm probably going to hold off on that. Still, really enjoyable game overall.
    Oh, and gear makes a HUGE difference in this game, as some gear synergizes really well with certain classes (gear that gives ap back on kills combined with gear that gives you extra attacks for example), but since gear is completely random, its hard to create specific builds.

  • @df6597

    This game is a strong 7.3. With a bit more customization in gear(actual equipment and models) and a couple adjustments to attacks of opportunity(like using ranged weapons in mee range), and a disengage for a reasonable ap cost (not sure there) it could soar into the high 9s.

    My initial impressions were I really like this, I did when I first tried it, thought this is cool! Medieval X-Com!
    BUT there's a few things that ruined it for me, granted I haven't played it for that long but...
    - There don't seem to be any actual weapons and armour loot to get.
    Just runes that you can add to your weapon to upgrade it / buff + add damage/blood etc
    it's not half as exciting as finding a cool new sword and such or nicer gear.
    - The battles are very repetitive and samey and I've had issues (bugs?) where my units won't attack, despite having plenty of AP and won't use potions.
    - The other thing that REALLY SUCKED was the difficulty*.
    Normal was challenging but do-able for me but it was way too easy on story (to the point where the enemies can barely even damage your units).
    *A good example of my issue -
    On Normal difficulty, I had a party of 5, three of them got injured on a mission - game told me it would take 5 missions to heal ONE (and I could only heal one at a time) of them.
    FIVE MISSIONS - So why is this so bad? Well yes, you can pay to heal them in 1 mission but I could only afford to do that for one of them, which meant I now had only a party of 3.
    Bear in mind that the missions only get harder as you progress - so obviously it's going to be MUCH harder with 3 than 5.
    My current party members are bound to get injured now that there's less of them and It hardly seems fair because now I'm stuck in a vicious cycle - when the injured in the hospice are finally healed, they're just going to be replaced with injured from my party and the constant rotating healthy/injured units thing is enough to put me off the game to be honest, so annoying.

    This game really hit the spot for me, even though its simple its new and there arent really that many games in recent times that fill this gap in the same way and it gets off the hook easily for some of the shortcommings for me.
    The biggest downside for me was that it seems unoptimized (the DL size could be an indicator for that) and it heated up my computer way more than it should have.
    They are adding content to it down the line too, so if they take a couple of risks and devirsify a little bit with that content like xcom did this game can easily go from good to very good.

    So I've had to restart this game 3 times so far because of some weird game mechanics. There is no mission restart, or mission/day skip. I've played one iron man (my first playthrough) and a normal playthrough, getting stuck because my party is entirely under leveled and/or injured. I'm not sure why there is no pass day feature but its completely fucked me multiple times. I like this game but this feature makes it unplayable if you try and play a diverse lineup whilst not focusing on power leveling. I had a full roster which was unusable, would lead to injuries and then a team full of under leveled injured men. Either I am missing something in my 60 hours or this game is fundamentally broken. Any advice would be great.

      @@technosamurai9171 If you haven't played either Xcom 2 is the best option. I like Knights Tale because it's a different spin on the classic formula that Xcom established but the classic formula is what made these games popular so I'd go to that one first.
      Another Xcom like game you should keep your eye on is Phoenix Point which was created by one of the original Xcom devs. The biggest draw to me for Phoenix is unlike Xcom1 and 2 it's possible to freely aim every shot you take instead of having just a set percentage chance like Xcom and I personally prefer that. They're both great though

    This reminds me with the problem I saw with Xcom like games and Battle Brothers.... The story simply wasnt good enough and it became boring and repetitive... For me a game needs to hook me in and for me this mean making me care about it... be it through the story or the characters.

    I really enjoyed the game, it was fun to go through, the plot was pretty solid if not a bit basic, some of the UI/game elements could use some polish but generally it was great.
    My only main gripe is that at some point you would just rotate the same 6 characters basically because there is no need to anything else in addition the fact that Mordred is locked in a specific class really limits the gameplay experience to something very specific and tailored.
    Generally the game is over when you kill Arthur, the "endgame" is very pointless and the payoff is not worth it and very grindy, the fomorian part (which are really easy to deal with apart from some random difficulty spike encounters) is kind of pointless in my eyes.
