Is Salt Bae's Steakhouse a TOURIST TRAP? Nusr-Et Steakhouse Review
Vložit

- Out of all the internet famous people out there, there are few people as well-known and divisive as Nusret Gökçe, more commonly known as Salt Bae. Love him or hate him, there are few people who have not heard of him or seen the original viral 2017 Salt Bae video, of him sprinkling salt in his Salt Bae salt pose.
Salt Bae was already a restauranteur before his internet fame, but he capitalized on his viral Saltbae video to open several restaurants. Not just limited to the Nusr-Et Instanbul location, but Nusr-Et Dubai, Nusr-Et London, Nusr-Et Miami, Nusr-Et Beverly Hills, Nusr-Et Dallas, Nusr-Et Las Vegas, Nusr-Et Abi Dhabi, and Nusr-Et NYC are all popular locations. NYC actually has two Nusr-Et locations, so we wound up eating at the Nusr-Et Times Square location.
Ask anyone around you and they will say Nusr-Et is overpriced. The steaks are often thousands of dollars, with the Nusr-Et gold steak being $2,500! But is Nusr-Et overrated? We didn't order any of the exorbitantly priced Salt Bae gold steak items and we will only fairly evaluate his more reasonably priced $95 wagyu steak.
Tag along on this journey as we find out if Salt Bae is overrated or if Salt Bae is actually a good chef! Let's see how Salt Bae's restaurant fares in an honest review! Is Salt Bae's food good or will Salt Bae be exposed?

Salt Bae's is just a trap period. The prices are just ridiculous.
yeah 275 for a 32ounce tomahawk is around 80-100 dollars more than the same 32 ounce or larger tomahawk at most other high end places i've seen.
Guy sprinkles salt once instant sensation. This world never ceases to amaze.
was a health violation too since it hit his arm hairs on purpose

@@markramsey2454 Nasty!!!!
Well.....its not like he wiped his as at the table.
Salt Bae is to steak what the Kardashians are to beauty.
Yes, fake AF!
Dude, that's a perfect analogy for it lol.
Well said
You nailed it
Lipstick on a pig.....or I guess cow in this situation. 😂
Yea, that's not A5 Wagyu you can tell from how it looks in its rare state. That looks more like US or Australian Choice Wagyu which is roughly 20-25$ for 16oz where as Japanese A5 Wagyu is $200+ for 16oz. So IMHO it is kinda, no really overpriced.
thats what i was thinking. Its the wagyu wanna be
Yeah the meat quality was only okay
As a rule, especially for anything outside of Japan, unless it is specifically advertised as (insert prefecture) A5 Wagyu, then it is not genuine. Those prices are also impossibly low compared to the rest of the menu.
@@UnitedStates. Basically imported a wagyu stud then breed American choice beef and raised as an American choice beef. So basically its just Wagyu by name.
Not enough marbling to be Wagyu.

This video is a must watch for anyone visiting New York for the first time----imagine all the people who go to this place not knowing what they're really, really getting.
I’ve never been to NYC would like to go one day but definitely not going to eat at Salt Bae’s steakhouse. I’ll eat bagel sandwiches, pizzas, bodegas etc… get my chopped cheese the OCKY WAY
Imagine being that obtuse.
@78thandSynth what did you call me?
I haven’t paid for a meal at a restaurant since 1962.
I’ll complain. And make a huge scene and they’ll tell me to get it. And then I’ll grab someone else’s plate. As I walk out.
Also. I have never went into. Restroom that said “ gentleman “ on it.
All they would have to do is open the and see what they are getting--screwed!
$95 for that?! Certainly you’re paying for the presentation show and the novelty of being owned by Salt Bae.
You mean someone cutting meat in a way any 12 year old could or have salt run down your elbow? Pssst.
Psssh!
@@buzzfunkYou don't want the seasoning hitting someone's hairy forearm before it gets to your food?
$95 for that? No sauce, no fries, no salad, no onion rings. Wow.
Ya at least throw him a tiny salad and a baked potato. Balance the pallet, meat is tasty but you have to balance it out.
Rip van Off
One problem with how they serve steak is that if its not cooked to your liking, the steak is now cut up and can't be re-fired.
slap it in the microwave...
*Gordon Ramsay enters room...
Doesn't reheating steak dry it out?
Send it back and get another steak, plain and simple
@@pistolpete528you simply refuse it and walk out. Never give the kitchen a second chance
UA is a real MVP. Going to restaurants we dont plan to visit just to show the experience.
Yep! Doing it all for you guys!
I'm with UA on how I like my steak. The medium rare part is fine, but I definitely prefer more of a crust on the outside. It looked like it was barely touched on the grill. Then throwing in the prices, yikes!!! No way would I dine there.
For sure, the sear on that steak is pathetic. I'd literally ask for it to be sent back if they brought that to my table, looked more like it's been boiled then stuck in an oven for a few minutes.
It just looked like cheap steak not hung for too long and younger meat. The usual rushed out meat.
It don't even think it was Wagyu either. Just didn't have the marbeling. Looked like a piece of Porterhouse that you can get at the supermarket for $5 American
Want some elbow grease along with your salt flakes? 😮 No thanks I’ll pass. For $95 bucks I like my salt unadulterated.
And why isn’t good salt in a salt cellar left on the table so customer can add if one pleases? Ok I understand everything is Ala carte, but to present a bare piece of steak without any garnish, (parsley sprig?) even small pots of optional sauces is a terrible, stingy, presentation without any eye appeal. And for the price & reputation, one would assume the meat would be consistent in flavor & texture. You’re one of my favorite food bloggers, detailed but not boring, fair & considerate (like going outside to express your evaluation)!
I belive the salt on the arm is a health code violation! Especially in NYC
haha
Agreed
@@uaeats it's a scam
I went to his restaurant in Istanbul. And my answer is YES! It is a major tourist trap.
Damn, no side or anything? Just meat for $100? 😂
Yeah, my first impression, too. What a BORING meal. That would finish the review for me.
I'm in Richmond, Va., and I know there's a COL difference between here and NYC, but if I were to purchase a $100 steak here, it damned well better come with dancers and an orchestra.
Edit: To p*ss off the waiter at Salt Bae, I'd've asked for some 57 sauce. ;)
Edit to Edit: Or, hell, KETCHUP!
Imo no steak should cost more than $70 max
Didn't even throw in an onion slice or something to make it a whole meal.
@@uaeats Well per person. A large tomahawk to be shared by many sure can be 100+.
@@samuraidoggya tomahawk steak is at tops is 45 dollars in the grocery store. Pa , Ny, Md, De etc…. Even for an inch thick cut
I just like the detailed review of every single item u eat
That's sign of a pro food reviewer
Thanks! Glad you like the reviews!
Without top notch food there is no "dining" experience
Salt Bae knew he had a small window to capitalize on his fame, so he wisely took advantage ... I don't blame him for that, but where he went wrong was thinking people actually liked him cause he had talent beyond the meme.
Thanks for spending so much of your time and money to keep us informed of the good eats in NYC!
I live to serve!
Thanks UA for another enjoyable video review. Only my opinion, and perhaps it was the lighting, but that steak looked gray and unappealing. I understand it was rare/med rare, but you can still get a better sear and grill marks than that $95 steak had, resulting in better texture and flavor. Your reviews are always fun to watch! Cheers!….
Glad you liked the vid! I agree the sear was not impressive
it was also quite a thin cut, seriously looked like amateur home cooking
$95 no potato no vegetables no sale
I bet ketchup would be an extra 5,00 lol Didn;t see any on the tables.
There definitely should've been a side or two included
@@uaeats we have better steakhouses in NYC ! that's trash ! glad they shutdown
The burger place shut down. The Steakhouse is still alive on 53rd and 6 ave@aminebenafla
@@paolabravobb you made me sad with this news !! 😕😕
Amazing review!!! As for the restaurant that’s brutal. For those prices. It’s just insane how much they charge for those cuts of beef. As a beef farmer it makes me very sad how he charges people those prices!, but I guess that’s the business
I totally agree 100%. It’s sad he charges those prices. I have had a few family members who have been there and spent hundreds and left very disappointed.
Even sadder that people buy it :) if I wanna sell my poo for 10k dollars that's not sad, it's sad when someone buys it :)
Salty, much?
I almost always cook my own steaks and enjoy them immensely. Just had a 250g scotch fillet that effectively cost me $7 Australian and it was lovely since I picked the tray of steaks that had the most visible fat through it. Rendered out sublime and with cracked pepper and sea salt and the Browning from the cast iron skillet I can't justify spending more 😅
Do you have any idea how much it costs to run a restaurant in Times Square? It’s over six figures every month just for rent.
UA Eats, I just want to say your are awesome, love your reviews, they are authentic and enjoyable. Keep up the work, and if you ever want to visit the Delaware area let me know, there are some good steak houses here outside of the philly area!
I've never been to Delaware before. Glad to hear there's good steakhouses there! Will need to check it out sometime
You should have so many more subscribers bro! Love your vids, keep it up man.
I've been an avid fan of your reviews. But I was just watching youtube and saw you made it onto SunnyV2 video. Keep up the growth and fire reviews
How sprinkling salt on your forearm isn't a health code violation
I bought 2 steaks for $35 at the grocery store that look better than that LOL
I just discovered your channel and I LOVE IT! thank you
I admire Salt Bae for conning all those rich fools with his absurd antics. The fools, some of them with their ill-gotten gains, deserve to have their money separated from them.
If you have to chew that much on a steak you're getting ripped off😂
That steak looked absolutely disgusting.
Heck yea it dose I’m not a professional cook but brother I can cook away better stake then that and will look amazing.
I just read an article today that they closed the New York City location
Comfortable chairs is not a minor issue. Major props for comfy chairs!
There's a Jason's Deli in Richmond, Va., where, about 5-10 years ago, they unnecessarily replaced good-condition, cushioned, comfortable chairs with new-look wooden-seat chairs. These are so uncomfortable they will numb your cheeks and nuts. You actually have to get up and take a few steps every few minutes to avoid pain.
I agree!
I think you nailed it. It's a "Dining experience" As long as a patron receives the experience they were looking for, most would be happy with what they paid for. Nice job and a very fair review!
Hey as long as people are willing to pay it, is anything a tourist trap?
Dining experience😂 that's some bs and nice wording for rich anf narcissistic people wanting to feel special even when they eat
anyone stupid enough to pay that much for food is a moron, and deserves nothing in life, which will happen...
Another great video from UA.
Never heard of this salt Bae guy so I've never been to one of his restaurant. I personally look for quality and value and it doesn't look like I would get value at that restaurant.
I prefer my heart attack to come from the meat and not the bill. 😂
Never heard of him either before subscribing to this channel. *shrug* I like that UA tries to be fair and objective, though. 👏
I'm with you. I like medium rare but need that crust. That steak looked a little sad and grey on the exterior....but still great on the interior.
Good review. Nowadays people usually pay for the show not the food.
Exactly. Like 2-3/10 people definitely prefer good show over food taste.
I agree with all your sentiments. I would be insulted if a restaurant brought that to me for that price.
At least the slicing was cool
I think your rong were paying almost 40 dollars for a ham burger in Vegas I ate that steak he ate at the Vegas restaurant it was good and iv eaten a lot of steak houses hear in vegas
I'm with you. And no sides!!
@@ribertocifaldi7813 I think you’re getting ripped off. Am I’m not “rong”. 🤣
Salt Bae? This could be a very brutal review. 😢
Haha. I think I tried to be fair
That was a very well balanced in depth review well done!
Ngl that steak looked like the ones they sell at Dollar Tree lol Very clearly a tourist trap 🤦🏽♂️ But still great review and I now know I'll never step foot in that place!
I've never eaten dollar tree steak. Maybe that can be a future vid haha
The worst restaurant in NYC has shuttered. Big surprise
UA is one of my favorite food vloggers!
Thanks!
It’s worth every dime if you follow him on social media you know this man has passion for cooking and food and the presentation is unmatched.
Wagyu by itself means nothing of course. It literaly just means Japanese beef and could theoretically be any cut from any cow. Its usually used as a marketing term to overcharche people for what essentially is just a regular steak. What people might think it is, Kobe beef or A5 wagyu, is something very different. These are registered terms for beef of a certain quality, often recognizable by that iconic marbling. So, what you could do when you see the vague term "wagyu" on the menu is ask what kind of wagyu it is, because again, you are essentially asking what kind of beef it is, not a very strange question, right? If they cant awnser this or get confused or something, its perhaps better to order something else.
Exactly, lots of uninformed people in the comments who seem to think "wagyu = Kobe beef" or something. Nonsense.
That didn't look worth $95 for that steak. I have had many $90+ steaks and for the most part it was worth it every time. If I bought that steak I would have been pissed.
this. that steak looks terrible. you could buy a badass steak for at home and id cook that sumbitcch in cast iron and guarantee it twitce as good as this trash. but then again, im a humble badass who has a lifetime reserved corner booth at my local steakhouse
I really enjoy your videos
I'm on a binge watch
I enjoy your videos and personality, keep up the good work.
Good honest review!
Thanks!
I’m wondering if that was even Waygu you should have kept a piece to analyze it
Maybe it was sirloin ?
It tasted like American wagyu, which can be pretty meh in quality
great video and you were spot on....they can keep it!
Those prices are insane! I'm a native New Yorker and when I go to see a Broadway show, I go back to Staten Island to eat, New York City is a rip off!
It’s probably American “Wagyu” instead of the ones imported from Japan lol
When paying that much for a steak, you'd expect the whole steak to taste great, and not just a piece.
Great review UA!
Thanks!
Was this the resteraunt in New York that closed in June of 2023? I ask cause I’m getting a sunnyv2 vid about saltbae that mentions the NY restaurant
Found a Salt Bae in Mykonos, Greece and was 35 Euro ($38 USD) for a simple burger. I don't think it was worth trying at that price.
Cheap compared to DK Oyster 😂
Somehow I feel like I've seen better grill marks at a Burger King 😬 The lack of salt makes me curious if they season the steaks at all before they hit the grill. The fact that a $2500 gold steak is on the menu (which we all know is an absolute rip off with gold leaf not being that expensive), it doesn't shock me that the steak quality doesn't line up with the cost.
It’s almost like it’s a gimmick
The internet reports that the Union Square restaurant closed its doors. Is that the same location visited by UA in this video?
Great review. Liked and subscribed
Looked like raw a3 to me.
I laughed pretty hard when he brought the steak and did the thing he is known for.
It's now closed. Great job UA!!👍👍
what u mean?
I'm in NY often, but rarely order steak. But this is two different videos where the waiter cuts the steak for you(Peter Luger was the other). Is that a NY thing?
Who doesn't love arm hair with their 2,500 dollar steak?
Free keratin! :)
🤮🤮🤮
I belive that's a health code violation in NYC could have sworn he got in trouble for doing that in NY
haha. But it's salted arm hair
That steak was raw, what a joke!
I liked the doneness actually but some parts were quite bland and flavrless
uneven cooking js not acceptable in a steakhouse
Crust = pan fried, grill marks = self-explanatory
Seeing all those empty tables outside at the start would give me pause.
any excuse to eat steak eh?
You know me well!
The problem is the type of people he attracts (or rather his target group), that is people who get their culture from tik tok, so Nusret isnt even "supposed" to focus on the food according to most of his customers. All he stands for is a theatrical act and thats what people come for, not the great food.
And the crux of it is the main attraction isn't even part of the show or there at all! LOL
Huge markup for some guy sprinkling salt off their forearms😂
I'm going with "yes" but I'll wait to watch your review.
Hope you liked the vid!
You can get that $95 steak at Texas Roadhouse for $30 and it probably tastes the same. Also if I want real steak , I would go to Peter Luger , Keen , or Wolfgang instead.
Agreed I would never go to Salt Bae. Would much rather go to Keens. Oh, and I love the pic! Couldn't agree more.
Yes it is
wow , that golden steak price can buy a whole cow
thank u for biting the bulllet on this. gotta review sadelles next!
For those who said no side dishes, etc. I went to a grilled meat restaurant in Turkey, but much cheaper. This looks like that, literally just meat. You have to order salad separately. But they have free white bread and seasonings like salt, pepper are on the table. And you can get other seasonings like cumin, dried thyme, and olive oil from a seasoning corner. And yeah I prefer to cut my own steak, but for someone with only one hand like my dad, getting a service like that will be nice. Although it is still expensive.
Glad you took one for the team on this one. This place is an abomination, can't believe they're still around
I wouldn't call it an abomination but it's definitely not worth the price
👍👍👍
its a gift for those of us who hate the dumb rich
Do they have steak sauce available?
What he did at the last World Cup really sealed his fate, he's going down
I'm sorry I got caught up in the hype. I went to Nusr-Et in Dubai, and couldn't believe how bad and expensive it was. I thought it most have been a bad night, so I tried his place in Miami. It was even worse. At least Nusr-et in Dubai had an interesting atmosphere. #neveragain
Wow you went twice! I do think his restaurants are fun though. Good service and fun vibes
Big scam ,he got a lot of idiots as customers
Thanks so much for your videos as a British person watching you eat is the only way i will be sampling the food no way could afford those prices.
A hard pass looked good thou now every one wants 22% tip it’s getting unreal
even fast food places ask for tip so dumb
The steak looks disgusting! Love your reviews!
Don't know what you're talking about. The steak looks great, a bit outside of what I would pay but definitely looks good. Personally I would like it a little more char on it.
@@stevemalek2970a little?! It looks like it was boiled, based on the outside. I'd send it back.

@@uaeats 👍🏼 Can you do a review of another expensive restaurant Le petit chef nyc in the view restaurant. Thanks
The doneness looks perfect but sear was non-existent. Also, applying salt to an already cooked steak is a surefire way to make it taste bland. Thanks for showing us to never waste a single dollar for a Salt Bae steak.
After watching this I can confirm I will not be eating at the salt bae restaurant.
I like how the salt bounced off the guy's arm
WOW, an easy pass!!! I guess the Lease is Very High as to the pricing. That's for taken this one for the team. BTW: Never slice the steak as the juice and heat escapes.
Yeah I thought that as they served it, why slice it😅
steaks are sliced al around the world. Juices are gonann escape regardless and so is heat.
I think the price is mostly due to his brand. I think all his restaurants charge high prices
That's Wagyu but not A5. A strip loin A5 in a Tokyo steakhouse costs roughly $120+ so in NYC it should be double that.
for almost 100 bucks you should have the honor of cutting your own steak (I am not a big fan of when steakhouses cut your meat for you)
I actually disagree. Watching them cut it was fun. I think the atmosphere is the main attractive aspect of this place rather than the food
Salt Bae House Special of the Day: $2,500.00 for Giant Tomahawk Billy Goat Meat. Fresh from the mountains of Turkey. (Extra charge of $20.00 for glass of warm goat’s milk).
Japanese A5 Wagu has to be cooked in a stainless steel pan, it can't be cooked over a flame as it's so fatty it would melt away.
That "steak" wasnt wagyu beef
It was clearly undercooked
Well 35$ burger on Times Square in New York is definitely better deal than 22$ burger in Edmonton, Canada.
Filet mignon here is probably same price, wagyu itself, raw, cost same price 😂
Great video, 👍
Truly ingenious way to do business.
He actually is a rags to riches self made man. His viral video even was a planned marketing tactic
