Congratulations! You're taking a big step! Depending on who you start with, Crete requires between 8-12 months experience. So you need to find another company to start with. There are some that will pay for your school and then you work it off by driving for them. We recommend, if at all possible, to pay your own school so that you have more options. Werner actually reimbursed Kevin for his CDL school with monthly payments over $200. That's three years ago. Best of luck! Keep us updated!

I know what you’re talking about I did it 45 years Dot physical. The last 7 years I’ve been doing my physical every year due to open heart surgery in 2017. The last few years it’s been a bit stressful getting ready for my Dot physical. Good luck Kevin keep up the good work on your videos I really enjoy them.

In the state of Florida if you let your medical card expire the state will revoke your CDL portion of your license. Even if not driving its a good idea to keep your medical card up to date.

Great idea to check and see that everything has gone to the State correctly. Two years ago, I had my physical at the same clinic I have used for the past several years. After all is done, they fax the information to the State and give the driver a small copy of the authorization for your wallet. As luck would have it, my drivers license was due in March of 2023 and, as usual, I renewed it online. However, a notice came up that I could not renew my license on line, I had to go to an office. I went, and was told that the CDL portion of my license could not be renewed because I didn't have a valid DOT physical. I had gotten my physical the previous July. Fortunately I had the long form of the authorization at home, so I went home and returned with it and the DOL sent it directly to the State and so I could get a new drivers license. Moral, keep all the paperwork you get from anyone concerning your CDL. It may be necessary sometime in the future when you least expect it. I still have my first 'authorization' from my first DOT physical in 1970 (long before CDL's).
In the state of Florida, you must submit your OWN D.O.T. physical results.

Just watched the test drive of the Western Star. The larger table gave me a thought, could you mount a pontoon table base on the floor of your truck (flush mount)? Then you would have a removable but larger table.
It’s an interesting idea. 🤔 But then you’d need to store it somewhere when not in use. 🤔🤔The pull-out table in the Freightliner was helpful, though too low and too small. We hope some designers will improve this aspect of truck interiors!

In my opinion Crete and a few of the larger carriers are way over board on physicals, a good company would allow you to go to the Dr of your choosing to get your physical renewal provide they are on the national registry... Wouldn't work for a carrier that makes you go to one of their Dr's
We don’t know if he could have gone to his ‘own’ doctor. Didn’t ask. Happy to have them organize everything.
A dot physical dosent include a drug test.the urine is used to test your kidney

Wow you have Afib and got 2 years on the physical? So how does that work, the ablation must be a better solution than a blood thinner which is a usual protection against Afib? Also no blood pressure meds? That’s awesome
Yes! We are grateful that the ablation worked very well for Kevin. It has stopped the episodes. We think it’s a better solution than being on blood thinners and other medications that didn’t work well for Kevin. Ablation has a pretty high success rate. Kevin had no other heart issues (like high blood pressure). He had annual renewal and now they’ve switched him back to every two years because he’s been episode free for over two years. 🙏
So please I am a guy who had 2 strokes in 2020 with zero residual impact, cognitive or physical. Did not find a cause even with heart monitoring for a month. After second they embed a loop recorder. 535 days later it records an episode of what is borderline AFIB some call it A flutter. Because of this one instance they put me on Xeralto which I have no problems or side effects. I have had no other recorded incidents or NO symptoms and I do 2 miles in 30 minutes on a treadmill a pretty good pace for a 65 year old. Sorry my question is did Kevin have symptoms severe and often enough to be a candidate for ablation? That was not a possibility with me cause at this point the events, only 1 in 3 years, and no symptoms, rule that procedure out. Thanks just trying to get a better understanding on the effects of AFIB. It seems rather common in our age group but also varied in symptoms and frequency .

Crete Carrier is one of those big companies to stay away from. I used to drive for Crete,and my opinion of the powers to be in Lincoln, Ne. is very low.

There’s no way I would work for mega carrier that wanted all kinds of crazy stuff out of a DOT physical I go to the local hospital in my town. They do the DOT physical give me my paperwork and send me on my way.
We liked that they organized everything. Seemed like the same DOT physicals he’s gotten before.
As of late, I'm been thinking about going to CDL school to become a motorcoach bus operator someday down the road.

@TheJoyofTrucking I'll have to wait a few years, though. Currently recovering from a vascular surgery procedure almost two weeks ago in preparation for kidney dialysis. I'm unfortunately in need of a kidney transplant. 😬 Though, hoping I can get my Class B CDL and passenger endorsement eventually someday when fully recovered from transplant surgery as long as I don't get medically disqualified. That's my current plan for the eventual future.

D.o.t exam does not require a drug test Mr CDL driver for over 3 years..also some companies will honor your current Dot physical. These are the facts Sir... But still appreciate your vids thanks

Curious what is the max age to drive?
I don't really think there is one as far as the Feds and States go, but a particular company may have one. I am still driving a Commercial Vehicle (next physical in July) at age 78.
