I'm absolutely delighted you watched my video Keith, thank you so much. Jon Pertwee was quite a character when he returned to Bargoed to open the visiting centre in April 1994. Your videos are excellent.

Andrew I enjoyed watching this and your commentary. Your background information was very interesting - especially that about the railway viaduct. I lived there from 1954 to 1962 so your experience is a bit later so nice to contrast with my own.
I’ve been back there in 2016, 2017 & 2018 having lived in Australia and have been struck by the solid houses and other buildings but mostly by the beautiful parkland, river and countryside now the mines and the waste have been removed. Bargoed could be a vibrant and beautiful place to live again if it was given a second chance - sadly this isn’t materialising.
The RAFA didn’t get to feature nor the schools and Park so you’ll need to do a Part 2. Well done on this video.

Thanks mate for sharing. My fathers side from Tredegar and mothers from Rhymney so found this very interesting. I was born in Rhymney. We left for Australia back in 1971 but even though young, we went often to Bargoed and I remember just how busy it was. Loved the poem. Both my Grandfather and my father worked at Oakdale.

Amazing post! Fantastic poem! Interesting landmarks. I was always fascinated to visit the Emporium, which I thought was amazing. What is the Emporium used for now? No Bank in Bargoed, thats crazy. You have made a template for a walking tour of Bargoed. Have you moved permanently? 11 out of 10!

Hi there, thank you so much for taking the time to watch this. The Emporium is now empty, the town is a really sorry state so moving back to Bargoed is not an option for me, the town is now just memories and family and that is it.

The drive to be green has become the drive to be poor. So sad. Yes coal would run out one day but still a viable source especially when foreign coal is being sold at £400/t+
