2008: “the purpose of Tesla is to drive the advent of the electric vehicle”
2018: “the purpose of Tesla is to drive the advent of the electric vehicle”
exactly
His determination has not changed in a decade.
Clarity of mind.
And man, what a car the Model 3 is; the best car I have owned in 50 years of driving !
@@shepherdsknoll8 Model 3 is outstandingly good in pretty much every way. It is better than the BMW 3 series it competes directly against.
I feel bad for Bob Lutz. He has been wrong on literally every big thing he says. Saying Tesla will die since 2010 and saying that volt is the the future. He is so wrong that I feel like we should just take what he says as a reference point of how the opposite is going to happen.
I feel like he's an example of genius limited to a certain period where they did things a certain way. He was smart enough to see the electric revolution would happen, but not enough to see the acceptable margins of risk/reward the way Elon could.
Not many could see all the back then what Tesla was trying to do, so I don't think he should be embarrassed. He was wrong. So were a lot of people. The difference today is Elon has proven the model, so everyone can safely jump on board.
The Bolt is highly successful, though, so they've done better than a lot of the other traditional auto makers. Of course not at Tesla level, but they have done some things right
He's also a climate change denier
@@SuperSiggiboy except that the bolt is only successful because of the lack of mid tier EVs in the market. It is very objectively hideous on purpose so that it doesn't cannibalize the GM lineup and is not worth it's 45k cost.
@@PsychicThursday Yes I agree. An honorable trait is to take back your word when you are proved wrong. Bub Lutz failed to do so. Maybe because of his ego, or maybe because of his fear. As good as he was for the fossil fuel age, his stubbornness got the better of him.
Elon is the man for open source Tesla technology.
Is software is not opensource...
I do believe he's very influential and revolutionary person, but if you want to find opensource technology in the auto industry. Look for openpilot.

Elon M. is employing 50,000 Americans. That's a win !
That's just at Tesla! Roughly 10k more work for SpaceX.
Hey I work for Tesla and I live in Australia 🇦🇺 he is employing people worldwide 😉
Boring company too! (Tunnels)
Why only Americans?
It’s now 2020 and he has hired even more Americans. Soon, he’ll hire thousands of Germans, creating jobs for many globally.
People like him are our best chance to solve climate change. Entrepreneurs with a vision, not politicians with a bill
We need both-and most of the time both fail to really try. Elon is an exception.
Solve climate change? Climates are always changing and can't be "solved"

@@Im-mv6bf On a NEMA 14-50 50 amp 220V or better, sure, which is what I use. On a 110V plug it charges 5 mph, which is not fast enough if you have a long commute.
@@Im-mv6bf That's true if you don't have to drive more than it's full RANGE AT ONE GO. What if you are on a road trip, and you run of out gas halfway, you just bumb into a gas station and boom, 2 minutes your tank is full again. Now instead you would have to make 1h plus "coffee break" every time your car is "refueled".
I still think it's by far worth it, but it's not as simple as you proposed, people have different needs for their cars. No matter what, their refueling time will be at least 10-fold longer.
He thought that that Tesla would fail but what he was doing was so important he kept on fighting... a lot can be said for that
Elon musk deserves a nobel prize no doubt
The Legend of Texas lol garbage yet still 10 years ahead of the nearest competition
@The Legend of Texas In literally no sense are they garbage... no sense.

Well, after GM laid off workers after the Obama bail out and again after the Trump tax cut....I will be going with Tesla.
They pay like 12.00 an hour, not uaw wages.
Elon looks tired. Hope hes ok
The guy has been sleeping under his desk since his paypal/x dot com days.
During the model 3 production woes, his desk was right next to the production line.
There's joke around the old Paypal founders that Elon is kind of a homeless billionaire around silicon valley.
He doesn't have a house around the silicon valley area so he inevitably end up couch surfing at friends places or under his desk at work.
He's a workaholic of the highest order. I hope he learns to relax now Tesla looks stable.
He runs SpaceX, Tesla Motors and Solar City. Dude is like 18 hours a day working. Even when he's at home he's working. Gonna burn out if he doesn't chill.
Hes a monster and paving the way for mankind when all the other rich people are closed minded
I hope he is not okay. We need to force him to retire and force electric market to die. Go gas cars. They are the future and they are here to stay.
Now that TESLA is turning a profit he really does need a vacation or something. Or else he might not live to see the future he's paving for humanity.
I see a lot of people hating. Elon Musk is the greatest entrepreneur of our time, he has a vision about making humanity better and he is trying to accomplish it. And no he does not care only about money. He invested all his personal money to save his companies with everything on the line back when they were about to go bankrupt. He has a very good way about finding the right people for the various jobs. He used to sleep in the factory to make sure everything was running as planned (and no it is not a rumor many workers confirmed it).
Elon wants to wake up in the morning and think about the future and be excited and happy. Even if he fails he inspired a lot of people to actually accelerate the evolution of technology. 50 years ago we went to the moon and then nothing. We should have bases on the moon by now. He taught us that our imagination can become reality and the amazing things humans can achieve.
And don't forget that in 10 years he built a rocket company from the bottom and they launched successfully reusable big rockets that landed back to earth. NASA couldn't achieve this in all the years they've been active and all the budget they possess. And he done it in just 10 years. Don't underestimate him.
He must be a Republican. They're the nicest people.
Bob Lutz.. singing Tesla will die since 2014..

He can't. At least because he born in South Africa.

Doing what Danald Trump is doing? No thanks. He has better things to do with his times
no but he did a lot of great things in 2020
Just one of the very few individuals from our time whose life will be studied and discussed in the next century.
Gee, I hope he succeeds or there won't be anyone to study or discuss his life in the next century. Maybe a few desperate tribes scratching a living in the refuse from this century but doubt they'll have much grasp of history.
i say it all the time but Elon is a living Tony Stark
Tony stark is a copy of Elon Musk.
Yep Elons got Albert Einstein's dreams and genius ,Tony Starks lifestyle and bank account with Dr. Manhattans personality. He will make a great leader of our planets in 2299

It's already mainstream, I see it everyday.
i say 5 more years and this will be very very mainstream
REALLY mainstream: 2023-2025. Many analysts say that by then batteries will be so cheap that ICE cars will be more expensive than EV's. Production costs. Not counting fuel and maintenance which already are/should be cheaper. ("Should be" => If Tesla didn't had an Apple approach towards it)
Wow who would guess a guy handed everything in life would run a company into the ground, while a guy who actually built companies up and invented stuff from nothing would succeed.

What do you mean? His dad only gave him a small loan of a million dollars
Its good to see the underdog succeed
BlogVomMax Global Link Information Network was founded in 1995 by brothers Elon and Kimbal Musk and Greg Kouri in Palo Alto, California with money raised from a small group of angel investors,[6] plus US$6,000 from Kouri.[4] In Ashley Vance's biography of Elon Musk, it is claimed that the Musks' father, Errol Musk, provided them with US$28,000 during this time,[4]:Ch.4 but Elon Musk later denied this.[6]

They're looking to sabotage. The whole interview has nothing interesting to ask or say. "General Motors of the future?" Jesus.
Only watched for Elon.
But this is what its about. The entire EV industry has proven very difficult to disrupt let alone have a successful profitable business. Many startups have gone bankrupt all toating their product is the future. Its probably general interview garbage yet a lot of people think the same except the fanboys. I have high hopes for Tesla.
I don’t have a problem with this interview really

Bob Lutz is also a climate change denier. I guess if you're one of the world's largest automakers it kind of goes with the territory...
Also, I dare say that Tesla has survive this long BECAUSE of Elon's honesty, which is a rare commodity in the business world.
JustWasted3HoursHere ofcourse with out his ambition and pockets Tesla wouldn’t exist its a very rare example of a company truly not being there because of one person who just happens to be a genius
@@HardenJID I'm sure there's more than one genius at that company... ;)
JustWasted3HoursHere true just not on the Elon musk level
If Tesla doesn't survive, I hope the business model does. Direct sales instead of having to go through a dealership is awesome. Over-the-air updates beat having to go to the dealership as well for some software update or recall, which takes hours to do. The fact that franchises are lobbying heavily against him means he's changing the game.
One year later and GM is starting to buy out Cadillac dealerships who are reluctant to sell EV Cadillacs to move to a direct sales model.
How do you feel about Tesla being the most valuable car company today?
Well surviving is no longer an issue. :)
Volvo is doing the same now, the business model will definitely survive. Also you forgot to mention the use of virtual reality when buying a car online.
Cant wait for the 2028 followup....
Just sold my first tesla after 4 years of driving it every day. Just signed a lease to drive another tesla for the next 3 years. Hands down, the best and most enjoyable vehicle I’ve driven in my 30 years of driving everything from Toyota’s, to Mercedes and BMW’s, including their flagship models. I really hope Tesla succeeds, and if it doesn’t, then I hope the big automakers get on board with what Tesla has clearly shown to be a superior vehicle in just about every way.
All of the Teslas are excellent cars. They drive and handle extremely well, are quiet, quick, efficient, and they're very well styled, comfortable, etc. EVs are the future, and Tesla is way ahead of the rest.
VW has some excellent EVs designed, and hopefully they will build them in large volumes. So far they have not. However the VW battery contracts are a great step towards being able to build say 2 million EVs per year profitably within a decade.
Toyota is extremely reluctant to build EVs, but likely will build good ones eventually.
So what's a flagship for you, a GLE😅😂?
Anyone can see you are lying when you claim a tesla is better than a BMW or a Mercedes, especially their flagship models..... but nice try.
Guess you’ve never been in a Mercedes lmao. Drive one and you’ll cry and regret the lease u re signed. Trust me the German cars are superior

Mr Man probably because they want to show just the bits from the interview that promote their agenda
John Scirone nice thoughts
well if you really want to uncover what is behind the scene, in the end, it's all about money
It’s because people have a very short attention span, and this lets people click on the segment they want to watch instead of watching the whole interview. So overall they get a lot more views for each segment and people watch the whole video which is good for the CZcams algorithm. Win win, no reason not to.

Profit margin is not his #1 priority either, just the simple thought of advancement. He has said he preferred Edison over tesla but he has followed teslas mentality to a t. Imagine if anyone from a american car company had to put out 55 million of there own money, that would never happen they would rather discontinue and lay people off to keep profit margin high. The simple fact of being honest about some statements really make a difference when investors have an eye on you...
December 2018: Tesla market Cap - $61 billion, GM - $49 billion....
This old grandma has no right to talk to an American hero like this. She is unworthy of Elon's presence. He is busy literally saving all mankind and she interviews him about twitter. I watched the whole episode. 60 minutes should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.
Can you be any more pretentious? She's just framing his view into a TLDR, simplified way for the older masses who casually watch this on television. I think he actually liked the interview, and she's giving him exposure, which helps the notion of electronic cars becoming more mainstream. What have YOU done that makes you so "worthy"?

What has changed in a decade is that from February 2008 through mid 2009 Tesla delivered 500 cars, and now they produce over 7000 cars a week.
Lol he doesn't think that they'll own the market that they created??
hope not, monopolies are never good
Remember that car brands traditionally have quite loyal and fanatic fanbases that won't switch to other brands very easily. When other car companies adapt to electric cars a bit behind Tesla, they will still have the huge support of their massive fanbases. Let's say BMW, Mercedes and Ford as examples. II'm pretty darn sure Tesla will be big but monopoly is a whole another story... Tesla will probably be great at appealing to young customers, like me :) But I think they will have hard time convincing the old people at first at least... That's what I think.
Of course not, other manufacturers are catching up, plus they have a legacy of trust and stability with investors, if Tesla's trajectory continues I think at minimum it will capture 10% of the market, on the higher side it might start buying competitors that have sales declines and grow to 40-50% of the market, but conservative figures are always better so I'll say 20% of EV as a safe estimate (and therefore 20% of all cars in the future because petroleum cars will be dead)
@@ArnoldSig yup! I think you're right.
Tesla will be the apple of EVs 100% purely with their head start and charger network. GM and others are beginning to realise their mistake.

Interesting in that I just re-watched "The Revenge of the Electric Car" and was wondering about this very thing in that Tesla seems to have come out on top thus far and GM seems to have taken the bailout money and ran as they just fired 15k workers. It would seem GM is totally out of touch with future trends now and kinda has a EGO problem in that they want to force a car on us customers instead of making the driving experience fun again as that Bolt was just hard to look at it is styled so ugly. But in reality it's the case where someone was trying to do the best they could and someone else was just doing what they needed to do to get by and it shows as Tesla has three primary cars they sell and all three are the safest cars on the market right now.
Jesus Christ, the inside of that GM car looked like a digitized cooking ware
