I just wanted a quick reference for what to do
1: Replace - Think about why you play the game, and replace what you do when that situation arises
2: Record - Look at the actual time you are spending
3: Realize - Reflect on the big picture and what you are doing
4: Remove - Get it away, practically and physically
5: Rules - Make rules and boundaries to create an if-then ruleset
"Do you want to be addicted to video games what pass away the time, or do you want to keep it in a healthy balance where you enjoy life"
thanks for helping my short attention span
This needs more views. Great work
Hello Keshav,
Thank you for this video. My gaming addiction stemmed from temporary achievements. I always felt good about being good at a game. I get praise from my friends and ATTENTION from my friends when I'm good at it. Whenever I get into a game, I'd pour hours and hours of my time. Yeah, I was able to still do things while gaming but I was neglecting my significant other. I am 28 now, priorities change. Back then I'd game and neglect school. I just do the bare minimum to get by and do the maximum in games. I want to change so I can be a better person and get my time back. I don't want gaming to consume my life. Now that I think of it, I would pour so much time and resources into gaming for what? I think it stems from the loneliness or neglect of real life. I use gaming as a means to escape reality instead of facing it. I had a very rough time growing up where I didn't have present parents(single mom who worked majority of my childhood). I used gaming to get attention and validation. Things I never get usually in real life. I felt like nothing I do is enough. I always compare myself to others, watching from the outside. I was jealous of people who had loving parents, jealous of people who have everything together. My mother found a different partner later down her life and her attention went to him and their kids. I have a good job, I am a go-getter but gaming makes me comfortable and I got too comfortable. It's because its convenient. If i were to time my gaming per day, it's probably close to 10+ hours a day. When I'm studying, all I want to do is game. You're right. I believe I'm selfish as well. I like helping people but not for the right reasons. I want to help people because they give me the attention and time of the day. Once they're done giving me temporary praise, I just feel empty again. When I was a little kid, I'd be a very good student. I did very well in school but it never felt enough. I felt like my mom was never happy even though I was doing well. Typing it out/venting is a very good first step. I need to learn how to be more open with myself and others around me. I have to stop bottling everything and put on a show that everything's alright when it's not. I've never told anyone about my trauma. I'll seek help from therapy. I need some guidance on what to do to improve. I need people to help guide me. For those that feel the same as me or suffering from the same thing. We got this. We'll take our lives back from gaming.
❤️
🙁🙁
old comment man, but, I sincerely recommend counseling rather than therapy, very similar but counseling more so helps you explore yourself and the real reasons and motivations behind your actions. you’ve got many more years

I just watched this video a minute ago and man I play 15 hours every 2 days maybe like 50 hours a week. I will uninstall every game i have
Woke up one day realizing I was wasting all my time just sitting down an archiving nothing but now I’ll wake up work out play guitar and learn new lif lessons I really appreciate this video and opening my eyes.
I can remember getting started because all my friends were playing the game and i was not playing the game so they were not interested in me. So i also started playing it and now i have realized that it had become a problem for me and i don't know how to stop it.
Well now after watching your video now i know exactly what to do so thanks a lot for this. Really helpful video♥♥♥
also you might want to start finding new friends or just be open to gaining more friends just in case sht dont work out with those friends as you stated when you werent playing the game they werent interested in you maybe you already did idk just thought i say some but hopefully this routine work out for you me and most of everybody who watched this vid
I suffer from SGAD, Severe Generalised Anxiety Disorder. I am under medication and psychiatric monitoring. After 15 years of playing my last video game, I am again at it on my PC. For the last 10 days I have been installing and uninstalling the same game and pray to God so that I can do other stuff which needs attention. The graphics of the game astounds me. This problem makes me anxious. I have other hobbies which I love to do but the game seems to have a spell on me. I play 2 hours every day and in those two hours, I can do a lot of things done. It's insane. You know you have a backlog of work and you waste your time in a silly game. On Friday I will be 55 years old. I thought young people had this problem. I can end this by closing the account of the game company and continue with my life as before. Thank you for your video.
God bless you
If you enjoy the game then play it. 2 hours of a day to enjoy something is harmless. There are many people that wake up, start their video game, and then the sun goes down and they realize they haven't even eaten yet and they've been playing for 10 or more hours without realizing it. It is subjective to the individual and if you feel like 2 hours a day is problematic for you then it is. But generally speaking, 2 hours a day is extremely healthy and normal.
I’ve been playing this video game for probably at least 4 years now. Throughout lockdown, everyday I come home from school, weekends and any spare time I have. And I’ve watched this video and a couple others, I felt it was a wake-up call for me because I really want to get rid of this obsession but I don’t know why I keep going back to the game. But when I thought thoroughly through, I found out most the time it’s because I don’t want to do work or anything productive which involves laziness. I wanted to play video games day-in and day-out, but now that’d kept in mind I am going to limit the time I’m spending on that video game and get my life together. I really appreciate this video even though I found this YEARS later.❤️❤️
I know this response is pretty late but I had a hard addiction to fortnite I was playing up to 10 hrs every day and I know that playing less wasn't going to help, this video has helped me in many ways that I cant even thank you enough, because of this I have been able to focus on my studies a lot more and realise the true meaning of life, I just wanna say thank you as I truly believe you have saved me

Thank you so much for this video dude. I was not in contact with my family a lot ever since I started playing video games. My mom kept complaining that I keep playing those stupid video games and I always say sorry but then play again because I couldn’t help it. I’m finally stopping something that’s trying to stop my life
Thanks Keshav, i really needed this video. I think i’m going to uninstall all of the applications that distract me to see if i can get more productive over-time. If everything goes as planned, then after a while i’m going to install them again, but i’ll only use them if certain goals will have been reached. I hope my english didn’t suck; it isn’t my first language. Much love from Italy❤️
Gaming helps me to prevent myself from overthinking & negative thoughts. On the other hand, it took my time to talk & spend time with my family & friends and it also affected my career. I tried to stop many times but I couldn't and gave up and finally, it drove me to depression, I felt bad for myself, my family & friends.. Thank you so much for this video! I hope this helps :)
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been addicted to video games for such a long time and I know that it’s destroying me and it’s very unhealthy, but I still do it.

Bro this dude might just change my life
I am packing up my comics, consoles, anything else involving video games into boxes and taping them to the point where they would take forever to break open and I am stuffing them in my father's attic where I have to actually put in effort or even remember where they are to get to them. I have tried putting my consoles in my closet multiple times and honestly it never worked because they were so easy to reach for to plug back into my tv to continue playing them as my life passes by me like a quick breeze of leaves. I am done with excuses and I want to learn so many things such as photography, video, chess, basketball. etc. Quitting video games is my golden ticket to a better life.
Thanks for these tips !!❤❤
researching video game addiction and ready player one for an essay rn, copilot brought me to this video!
Extremely helpful video.
Thanks!!!
I just subbed. I have nearly reached the final milestone on my video game, just need to put in a couple more hours. After that, I have promised myself to stop playing or at least reduce my time spent drastically. Thanks for the lovely words and I'll make sure to reflect with another one of your videos.
I play a game called Rust. I bought it less then 2 years ago and have over 6,000 hours on it. Professionals who have 10,000 hours have taken 6 or 7 years to get that many hours. It's causing issues with my wife and my parenting. I do need to get over this. I had a10 year drug addiction i finally kicked over 15 years ago but this seems to be harder. Unfortunately gaming doesn't devastate my life like drugs did. It just makes life more uncomfortable in some ways. I appreciate your perspective. It might help.
have you stopped?
@@truechessfans no. But i slowed way way down. From that part to this i only played 110 hours in 5 months. Compared to 6k in 2 years. That's really great.
@Anmol Pandey no. They are not.
Same mate.. I got rust 10 months ago and have 1,3k hours now, I just logged off. I lost a lot of shit because of this, gained some weight and lost 70%of my gains, I don't know what to do anymore. We are on quarantine and there's nothing to do now, I got a guitar but I find it hard to play on. I want to unistall it but what happens next? I would have nothing to do. But as of tomorrow, I will go and sign up to a gym again (gyms are opening secretly). I hope when I wake up tomorrow, I would still have the courage to go to the gym after my online classes. I feel like I disconnected myself to everyone irl.
Because of it, I stopped playing soccer which is my hobby since when I was 5, I'm 16 now. Every time I think about it I get sad because I had a passion for it, everyone knew me for how much good I am at playing it. But my addiction got me to a point where I stopped going to practice just to play games. Shit is fucked up. Sorry if I had any grammar mistakes, English isn't my main language. And it feels good to tell someone about it.
Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you so much for this video! You are really helping me !
felt like someone helped it out for me.!!! Thanks dude
Thankyou so much !!! This helped me so much !!!
I got addicted to gaming through learning about consoles and stuff on internet. I really wanted to get a PlayStation, an xBox, any console, but as I am a minor, my couldn't afford this much for a game. Then I used to think that they were wrong, and used the internet to state that 90% of children under 18 have consoles, then why I don't?
But your video has actually affected me, and now I can say those 90% are those people who manage to get a simple or poor life, and those 10% are those few who go beyond the limits to get recognized by everyone, and now it seems with my life ahead me that perhaps I can buy myself a PlayStation anytime after I get a job :)
This really helped, thank you!

thank you for this, i needed this. not sure if i can take that big of a leap yet, but thanks to you, i'll try.

Thank you so much,
I'm trying to quit gaming overall, too much negative energy, I've gave my pc to my dad as a donation for his dental clinic, bought a laptop and peer pressure made me play 3 hours, just selling my headphones to get beats and along ps4. Probably going to record and see if I'm right then setup rules and slowly quit. I'll begin with playing basketball ans swimming as I used to do since a child. Subbed, much love bro, learned new things!
Finally going to stop playing video games. the most important for me in this vid was the steps to remove and make rules. Games have ruined my school grades as well because when I need to sit on my desk and do school work, I play games. This video means a lot and thanks to you so much for making it. wish I had found this video 2 years ago.
This helped so much I love this video Thank you so much

This is an older video, but I’m going to really work to apply this. I’m savagely addicted to an MMO, and after watching this video, I froze the account. I have several channels to unsubscribe to, and the amount of money I’ve dumped into an experience that may be deleted in a decade fills me with so much anxiety. But I have the power to stop and use my time and money for something so much better. So I’m going to do that. I will.

Originally, I was a straight-A student, but ever since I got really into gaming two years ago, my grades have slowly taken a turn for the worst and I am now on the cusp of flunking my summer course. Honestly, I wished I had watched this video earlier to stay a straight-A student from beginning to end. However, I've only finished half of my post-high school education. After watching this video, I believe if I put in the effort to drop gaming, I'll be able to make a comeback. Thanks Keshav for giving me a reality check.

I made my own solution 6 months ago.. I made an alternate account for everything necessary for my study, and did every study-related stuff on it. I would never use that account anything but my study. But, I still couldn't control my urge to play; so I deleted everything, made all possible arrangements to keep me from accessing my socials easily. I am cramming for exams right now and recently, I have been facing the urge to get back into video games, so I tried to search what can I do to stop my addiction. I came across your video and realized all I needed was some motivation, and a reminder why am I pushing myself to the limits ? why am I trying so hard to stop my video game addiction ? To think that I managed to keep my sanity for 6 whole months is an amazing achievement in itself imo. I guess I will go back to studying, I just need a little motivation and a reminder. THANK YOU !
Thank you!!
Thank you man
