  • On December 10, 2020, the third day of our Florida Keys adventure, we launched from the Indian Key Boat Ramp and paddled to Indian Key. On our way we encountered some bull sharks. We toured the historical island before setting off to see what else the Florida Keys had to offer.

    Indian Key had a massacre on it in 1840 during the Second Seminole Indian War. Apparently it was raided by Seminoles and 13 whites were killed while about 60 escaped. The island is haunted now they say. Those sharks may have been nurse sharks but they look similar to bull sharks from above. The nurse sharks aren't dangerous but the bull sharks are one of the most dangerous of all sharks so it was a good idea not to go snorkeling. Glad the weather improved for this outing. Nice video.

      Thanks, hard to believe that Indian Key was the seat of Dade County at one time.

      @@Kayak7seas True considering how desolate Indian Key is now compared to Miami but the area Miami stands on now was a mangrove swamp back when Indian Key was in its heyday. Actually the Florida Keys were the only place with a notable population in South Florida until Flagler built his railroad.

    What an amazing kayaking trip. The water is so pretty! We've only been kayaking once, but we had a great time and have since talked about buying a pair. Just so we can kayak when there's an opportunity to on our camping trips.

    Another island, named "Indian Key" is located near the South bound approach to I-275's Skyway bridge in Tampa Bay.

    This is a very interesting video, I must say. It looked like a nurse shark, because bull sharks have a very dominant dorsal fin, and a different musculature than that photo. I'd be more afraid of man o wars to be honest.

    That was a great one again, what nice sunny weather and waters. Where they nursesharks or? Fine sunset as well at the end! In the North of Holland we're up for snow and the next more serious freeze. Hope my bruised ribs are healed enough for long skate-tours, paddling sadly was a no go this week after my crash....

      @Kayak7seas  Před 3 lety +2

      Not sure if they were nurse sharks or bull sharks. I didn't know about your crash, hope everything is going alright.

      @@Kayak7seas ah in that case no good idea to go snorkeling with them... I broke through the ice while skating (see the action in my last vid), so bruised my ribs but going somewhat better now. Here snow and freezing temps, so hope to go skating soon again, kayaking is/goes on hold for the time being...
