This comment concerns mainly families with children or couples planning on having children. Generally, taxes are indeed higher in Québec. But where else in Canada can you send your kids to kindergarden for $8.50 a day? The Government of Canada is looking into extending this service across the country.
Considering all possible deductions, 36% of Québecois do not pay any income tax. For lower income people, the Québec sales tax in refunded four times a year.
With the government administered no-fault car insurance, the savings are considerable compare to the other provinces.
The Québec Goverment prescription insurance program mandatory to people that do not have company insurance is being considered by the Government of Canada.
Yes, we pay higher taxes in Québec, and this is where the money goes.

In Montreal (as in the rest of Quebec) students have to pay private insurance (in general... there are exceptions). The same is true if you hold an Open Work Permit (as spouse of a "main applicant"). If you have a Study Permit, and you end your studies and get a post-graduation Work Permit, then you can get into the RAMQ. On the other hand, if you have a normal Work Permit, you do have the access to the RAMQ.

( end of 80's.)Then, it was only electronics and Robotics but was the best of it's kind, "University Grade" ( I mean you could teach at Universities after graduation.) It was the "Best of the best at that time" (BTW it was Private College schooling at the time, so you had to pay more than regular colleges.)But now, very different. Many more academics, and no more electronics related courses. I dont't know about the rankings nationwiselike or worldwiselike either though!

@@ThisisYulia You got it right anywhere in Canada is pretty safe and regarding quality of life, it depends of your earnings workwise. But the "Vibe" is the most important thing amongst all. And that is where you should concentrate, according to your personality, to choose where to live in Canada. Now, look at youtube videos about Canada and decide for yourself what is the best Province for you. That's my two cents. (From a Canadian).

Also important to know with utilities that in Montreal the bills are typically in French, so knowing French is kind of important and for anyone in Montreal who wants a place usually a lot of rental properties will be available by around July 1st. And if you go to McDonalds mayo will be on your burgers 😁
in your Hydro Quebec account, you can choose the language of communication (you don't need French for that) 👌🏼
@@ThisisYulia agreed. In the downtown area, getting assistance in English is no problem. Same with west island. One representative I talked to downtown had a hard time not using french, but we both tried our best and I was out in 15 minutes renewing my health card

I know many English-speakers who were born here and live entirely in English. I also know many immigrants who have been here for many years and who live in English only. I even know some immigrants who knew French as a second language before coming here, but then have forgotten it and now live in English,

Would have been nice to have a general conclusion where you give your opinion. Also, Montréal as a unique culture and Quebec City is just next door, one of the most beautiful city in north america. In general Montreal is just a very chill and unique vibe that you wont find elsewhere on the east coast.

I have visited both cities, and I can't say I found interesting things to see and do in Toronto.... it's a huge city with thousands of high rise buildings but beyond the CN tower, I founded to be a big flat city without anything to offer. No hard feelings for Toronto or its people, usually all Canadians are very polite and nice, it's just my impression of the city. I do love Montreal......

im from montreal and an anglophone, even though i speak french pretty well and was born here there is definately a stigmatism anglophones in montreal. IMO the best city in canada for anglophones with the benefits of jobs and social wellbeing would be halifax, the only problem with halifax is the lack of a public transport development like monteal and toronto have, but other than that it has a decent job positions , good quality of life and doesnt have the crazy busy lifestyle of toronto. i plan to retire in halifax, as montrealer it has the city vibe without the craziness of toronto traffic and hustle lifestyle, would technically leave now lol but already have a life established in montreal.

Good video, but I don't understand why you would'nt take the opportunity to learn a beautiful language like French if you're surround by it! Je suis née à Montréal et je suis fière de voir comment les 2 cultures ont influencé celle d'ici! Not talking french will cut you of from at least the half of with this beautiful city have to offer!! Come has you are but respect what people have fought for and built for so long! Montreal has a lot of character and a great ambience. Toronto is great for jobs but u end up using the extra money to escape all the time!

Seems like a trade-off; more jobs and opportunities in Toronto/GTA in general but higher quality of life and affordability in Montreal in general. The sticking point for me is how long could one survive in Montreal without speaking much French?
it simply depends on what you do :) Montreal is a fully bilingual city, so you can live without speaking French here. as for work, again it depends on what’s your industry

Countless anglophones live in Montréal since generations without speaking a single word in french.
Toronto feels like big city USA (super large highways, tall bldgs, expensive apartments)
Montreal is a mix of US big city and Euro style which gives it its unique charm and vibe (lots of festivals, F1 race, etc...)
Montreal is also slightly more north which means winter is slightly longer and colder than in Toronto
The richest community in Canada has historically been in Westmount (Montreal) but recently West Vancouver has surpassed it
Of the 30 largest cities in North America, Montreal comes out with the highest number of university students per capita, even higher than Boston (!)

Hey, your name sounds Portuguese! I am a Brazilian living in Montreal now but I lived in Toronto for 7 years, don't come to Quebec to learn english. All street signs/busses/subways and many menus, etc are in french and you won't be immersed in the english language enough, also they just passed a new bill that may make english even more difficult in Quebec. If you want to improve your english choose an english speaking province, many Brazilians love Vancouver, BC.

Yes. I think people try to move to places that are may be farther from work or from downtown, because a lot of them can work from home... and the distance becomes irrelevant. Some just lost their jobs and moved with family to save the money of the rent. Those are my hypotheses...

Si tu veux un maximum d'immersion je te suggère d'emménager du côté ouest, où se trouvent les quartiers à tendance anglophone. Mes premiers choix seraient le Village Monkland, Pointe-Saint-Charles ou Milton-Parc, mais Verdun, Snowdon, Côte-des-Neiges et le Vieux-Saint-Laurent sont de bonnes options aussi. Aussi, si tu as le portefeuille pour, Westmount est une autre excellente option. C'est un endroit pittoresque avec beaucoup d'histoire et d'héritage britannique/écossais!
I think Toronto is awesome and beautiful too, but I'm definitely biased because I've lived in Montréal my entire life and I've grown attached to it. To me, Montréal just has more personnality and more history because it's older, less uniform and blends French and English heritage on many levels. Also, there's a certain joie de vivre here that's just lacking in Toronto because of the more fast-paced big American city vibe; whereas I feel Montréal is more relaxed and easygoing.

Hi, i'm an international student (South AMerica )and i am planning to apply to the Msc in Finance or Financial Engineering in HEC Montreal. I studied English (upper intermediate and aiming to 7.5 IELTS) and French (DELF B2 level ). Can i easily get a job after graduating and become a permanent resident in Canada?. Cheers and thank you for the video.
I can't speak for your specific field of expertise (Finances) but with a diploma from Quebec plus functional levels of French and English, you could fairly easily find a job in Canada (especially in QC). I work in a big Engineering firm in Montreal and the requirements for most of job posting is to be comfortable to work in French and/or English. This means being able to speak and write emails (not necessary perfectly) with your colleagues or clients and to be able to read and to draft reports. Most of my colleagues are immigrants or have English as first language. There are always French/English native speakers to help you when you struggle with something. During your studies, I would try to improve as much as possible my French and my English (especially French if you want to stay in QC). The current provincial government has changed the immigration rules recently. Before, it was easy for international students to apply for their permanent residency. Now, it's harder. But, if you can get a hold on work permit through an employer, it's the "normal" way to permanent residency. You should check this out since I don't know all the details.

Toronto was named the most multicultural city in the world by the UN and is a majority-minority city which makes it so unique. Toronto is generally more friendly to visible minorities, while in Montreal you can't work in the public sector if you wear a headscarf. Toronto has beautiful multicultural neighbourhoods and nice restaurants, patios, boutiques, and parks. You can travel the world without ever leaving the city with neighbourhoods like Greektown, Little Bangladesh, Little Malta, Little Portugal etc.. Montreal has that too but much less than Toronto since it is a smaller city. Toronto is a much busier city and you'll find that the city keeps moving 24 hours a day, its the only place in Canada you can get all you can eat sushi or korean bbq at 4AM if you wish. Montreal slows down at night and is generally more relaxed, and more restaurants are closed by 11PM. It really depends on what you like. If you like the fast paced city that never sleeps with big sky scrappers, endless shopping, boutiques, and restaurants then Toronto is for you. If you like a slower paced more relaxed city but that still has decent shopping, restaurants and parks, Montreal is for you. I have experienced both, but I prefer Toronto. Montreal has become quite hostile to outsiders since COVID began, especially to Asians. Montreal is great if you are visibly white and francophone, such as myself, but for my partner who is Asian not so much, which is why we are going back to Toronto this summer. It is truly a city for everyone.
What is this nonsense? According to the 2016 census, Montreal is a city where 21% of the population speaks three languages or more. This is double that of Toronto.
You can wear a headscarf anywhere. But you can't wear visible religious symbols if you are a teacher, a law representative or a civil servant interacting with the public in provincial jobs. So basically, the majority of public sector jobs are open to anybody wearing religious symbols.

Toronto is OK. I have been there many times. It looks and feels like the USA, which is what it wants. New York is called "The Big Apple". Toronto likes to call itself "The Little Apple". Toronto even copied Times Square.

naaah, it's impossible! there are almost no detached houses in downtown. townhouses start at 800-900k lol. as for the neighbourhoods, it depends on your needs and budget. I love downtown and Plateau but the prices are a bit high (not as high as in Toronto). Laval is good, Saint Laurent is good, West Island is good too :)

If I may make one simple distinction...if the part time job is in the service industry (restaurants and retail stores), you will need some French. If your job is to serve the public, you need to make an effort to be bilingual.

The thing is that Québecers care about their native language and look after the ones who're trying to preserve the said language which is french so that it won't be assimilated to English like it was in the United-States(Melting Pot.) (Meaning, you are american so you have to adapt and speak English). Canada way is to adapt to 2 languages either 1 or the other or the 2 of them.The French language is beautiful and must remain a "Thing" in our world. I mean, it was the Main Political language around the world a few hundreds years ago. Russians know it and that is why they like and want to know french. At least the oldest persons did. Today, it's a romance language like Italian or Spanish or even Croatian language but the fact is (in America, it is a dying language.) So if you want to prosper in Canada either you speak english in the westen part of Canada or you both speak English and French and wanna be Zen all over Canada Now That being said. At the least we are different and at the most and we are the same and at the outmost we are in the same boat so you are welcome to come to either country in North America. Decice for yourself. So, salaries in Ontario are 15% higher than in Quebec, but everything is 25% to 50% cheaper in Quebec.
salaries are higher, taxes are less, but almost no one can afford to buy a house/condo in Toronto (unless it's 1-2h drive from downtown)
not true , all food , clothing , appliances are cheaper in Ontario. In Quebec only real estate is cheaper. Also have in mind that income taxation is much heavier in Quebec , so , in take home money you make more in Ontario than in Quebec with the same gross salary. If you take everything into account , in the long run , let's say 20 years , Ontario is a more sensible choice.

Ontario has many immigrants , its the most multicultural province of Canada , but this does not actually works well , so if you are white don't expect an Indian having a spontaneous conversation with you. I have Arab friends in Quebec who feel very lonely and isolated . Quebeckers like Quebeckers but everybody else is not welcomed .

Yulia, this video is ridiculously biased. I don’t care, I just think the title is misleading, it really should have been: the reasons I think that Montreal is better than Toronto. I love both cities, but in order to help balance out this video a little bit here is a lot of ways that Toronto is better than Montreal:
1) warmer weather
2) much greater food diversity options
3) much better shopping
4) better street food
5) cheaper take out options
6) bigger shows come to Toronto
7) alcohol from all around the globe
8) not a problem if you don’t speak French
9) healthcare in Ontario is better by any metric, better funded and lower wait times
10) better roads
11) lower taxes
12) much more job and business opportunities
13) no language or separatism politics
14) it is a Global City
I can only agree with 1, 10, 11, 13.
2-5. "better food/shopping" depends on your taste only. Montreal has the highest number of restaurants per Capita in Canada and the second in North America after New York. “cheaper options” also depend on your knowledge of the city/food preferences
6. “bigger shows come to Toronto” also depend on your taste. I have a lot of friends who come to Montreal for music shows every year. not mentioning music festivals like Ile Soniq, Osheaga, Heavy Montreal etc
7. Montreal also has a lot of alcohol choices
8. In Montreal it’s not a problem if you don’t speak French. I have friends who have been living here for 15+ years barely speaking any French and running businesses
9. Everything is faster if you have private insurance. my friend waited for more than a year for a surgery covered by OHIP. is it fast? I don’t think so
12.Not true at all. in Montreal we have companies like Google, EA Games, Warner Brothers, Deloitte etc. again, it depends on what YOU do in your life. as for me, product opportunities are better here compared to Toronto

@@ThisisYulia Thank you for response, once again I just wanted to state that I do love both cities. However, it is pretty common knowledge that Toronto is much better for business than Montreal. Salaries are higher in Toronto, there is much more liquidity, and Toronto's GDP is double that of Montreal's, Toronto makes up 20% of Canada's GDP while Montreal makes up roughly 10%. Montreal used to be Canada's financial capital but since the 1970s that switched over to Toronto. In regard to #9 I was referring to wait times in Hospitals, by every standard wait times in Quebec Hospitals are the longest in Canada, I can send you some literature on this point if you like. With respect to whether Toronto being a Global City makes better or cooler, I honestly would say no. Everyone generally agrees Montreal is a cooler and more fun city than Toronto. I think your response to my comment proves my original point. You are not objective on this issue, you clearly favour Montreal both in your video and in your response and this was never a real comparison. I just wanted to help balance out some of the points you made if someone is deciding on which city to live in. If someone is immigrating to Canada and wants to make money I would definitely say move to Toronto and visit Montreal. If someone wants to go on a trip or be a student then I would say go to Montreal and think about visiting Toronto.

Sorry but when was the last time you were in Montreal ? 1) warmer weather ? a couple of degrees ? Toronto is not Turks and Caicos ! 2) greater food diversity ? on the diversity factor alone, I would say about the same quantity of options but not necessarily the same options. Toronto has a lot of South Asian and Montreal has a lot of Middle Eastern. 3) better shopping ? only Torontonians actually think this. European fashion influence reaches Montreal before moving west down the 401. 4) Toronto has street food. Montreal does not. So if that qualifies as better, okay. 5) cheaper take out options ? Montreal offers much better VALUE in all options. $15/$20 can get really good grub in Montreal. My family from Toronto can never get enough of Montreal food !!! 6) bigger shows ? usually same concerts pass through Toronto and Montreal. and the exceptions can go both ways. But I will give Toronto this extra...great Broadway style theatre !!! 7) do you think Montreal only gets wine from France ? sheesh ! 8) downtown or central Montreal is known as a bilingual city...but its reputation is that it is too French for Anglophones and too English for Francophones...so go figure... 9) To be fair, some provinces specialise in different things. It is not uncommon to have to travel to another province for a specialty surgery. True for all Canadians. 10) 1000% AGREE, no ifs, ands, nor buts 11) Ontario has lower payroll taxes in comparison to Quebec. Alberta has lower payroll taxes in comparison to Ontario. Is Calgary a better city than Toronto ? 12) debatable...Yulia has it right...Montreal is booming in gaming/animation...and because of cheaper Hydro, we are attracting a load of American multinationals, again. 13) yep, but it is the only thorn in my side and the pain is actually going away 14) Is Toronto a global city or an American wannabe city ? It is forever comparing itself to American cities...ugh ! Culturally, Montreal has a bigger global influence.

@@ThisisYulia for students too, since living costs are lower than Toronto or Montreal. Ottawa is only a 2 hr drive from Montreal so easy to visit for a weekend. Actually Ottawa isn't great for old people, it's too cold during the winters.
