    LITTLE CABIN IN THE YUKON
    When I'm not traveling in an RV or at home working on an RV, I'm usually at our remote, off grid log cabin in the Yukon. My husband and I have had this cabin for over 20 years and love it. If you'd like a look into that part of my life, I have a channel showing how we live there, lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife. So much of what I learned living off grid at the cabin has come in handy living in an off grid RV! The link is here-

    I hope this video helps anyone who has been contemplating trying car camping! It's such a simple way to make a bed in the back of your car, with no expense (unless you don't own a sofa!) If you are sofa-less, maybe a friend or family member is getting a new sofa and will let you have the cushions from the old one! You can watch my no-build car camping video here for more ideas. czcams.com/video/QKbK13E6_wo/video.html

      It really did, Jurgen! I slept so well on it! I'm afraid both my husband and I hate to throw things that might be useful later away. So, we tend to have a lot of odds and ends in our attic. Thankfully, these were in the spare room downstairs, otherwise the packrats who kept invading my attic all summer might have chewed them up!

    Sofa cushions are a great idea. You could even put them inside a sleeping bag to keep them from sliding apart. That’s sort of what we did for beds in our cargo except we used the foam from an old rv dinette seating area that was given to us.

      Great minds!! I had the same thought after the first time I used them. I thought I could turn the sleeping bag inside out so the flannel side would be my bottom sheet. It would be cozy and I wouldn't have to worry about an untucking bottom sheet! Thanks for watching,Felix!

    My BIG problem that I have is the space in between each cushion because I move around a lot. I opted for a solid piece of thick foam I bought from an upholstery store because I’m a bigger lady. I think I need to rearrange or figured out a better system of storage.

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před rokem +2

      Hi! I found these didn't move at all because they were squished between the back of the passenger seat and the hatchback door.Also, the side of the drivers seat kept it to the one side. I'm really quite impressed with how well it worked. I had the idea of putting the cushions into a big sleeping bag too if they did move around, but, I don't think I'll need to do that. Storage is something I'm still working on. I would like to take less with me, and cut down on what I need to store. Good luck with your car camping!

    I love this💜. I recently made a big move and got rid of my old couches and bed. The cushions from the couches just needed to be recover so I saved them. Covered them and use them for my bed. It was nice not have to haul all that heavy furniture. If I start van life I got the most important items to start with. 💜

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před rokem +1

      That's excellent, Kimberly! Not only are we recycling, we're getting bed for free! I'm loving mine! Another thing I discovered is putting the cushions in an inside out rectangle sleeping bag. Depending on how thick your cushions are it might be a tight squeeze. I used a sleeping bag we already had with flannel inside. It makes a super comfy bed without having to add a bottom sheet! It might save you needing to recover yours! Thanks for watching and happy camping!

      That little cooler has been great! It’s not huge, but it holds what I need. I try not to take too much in the way of food that needs to stay cold. My coffee cream, salad stuff, and my daily serving of meat is about it.
      That’s great you found the window cover video helpful! They are holding up well. I still have to get the front figured out, but have been Mickey Mousing covers so far. Did I put a link to the cooler in the description? If not I’ll go add one now.❤️

    I love what you did with the windows! I'm in the UK & have just done 7days starting in a pod, then on a campsite & finally semi-wild in the woods away from the campsite. Any tips 4camping when it rains? It was messt as I was tent camping but will try my car next but can't get a tent attachment 4boot of my British car.... hatchback with 3doors!

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před rokem +2

      Thanks you! Here in BC, Canada, and having grown up on the wet, west coast...I know camping in the rain! lol! If you're not prepared, it ain't fun. Especially in a soggy tent. If you're still tent camping, we found that getting a bug tent (I'm not sure what they call them in the UK, but a screened in tent for over your picnic table or for sitting outside in) and putting your tent inside the 'bug tent'. This gives your tent an added layer of rain protection and, if it's big enough, a bit of outdoor space outside your tent. This worked really well for us. Car camping and sleeping inside your car makes it much more comfortable and dry though. I just did a video where I show off my car campers awning or canopy that attaches on the back of my hatch back. It makes it so I can have my hatchback open and have protection from the rain while standing outside of my car. It's a game changer.here's the link 👉czcams.com/video/rRALxZ-NFw0/video.html But, I'm working on a video where I show how to do the same thing without buying an awning/canopy. Stay tuned!

      @@HoneyandMe thanks for your reply. I'll take a look now. I think you're right about sleeping in the car so I'm going to have a go with the tarpauline as a cover to run from the "hatchback" of the car. I love your videos especially more than some of the more "unrealistic" ones so thanks for the inspiration!

      @@juliemary4556 My husband and I, when w e were first together, spent several months living remotely and off grid in a canvas tent. It was a huge one my family had used for camping. Where we were was a VERY wet place and seemed to rain every day. I never want to go back to that kind of camping if I can help it. I always felt chilled. Hi! I’m not sure if I mentioned it was a Toyota Matrix, but I have several other videos about car camping in this car in my channel if you’re interested! And yes, the floor folds down completely flat, which is great for this kind of camping. The passenger seat in the front also folds forward so the back of it becomes a hard, flat surface. Makes a perfect table or an extension for the bed. Have you tried car camping?
