Can't explain how much I needed this video. I knew I recognized your name!!
Music was the only thing that ever brought me peace and happiness for most of my life, and last year right as I was ready for another music release I got the big H.
Started eating well, my blood pressure is now healthy, I'm getting exercise and more ;D
I'm really hopeful and determined to overcome this, and knowing someone who's in a similar field of music as I am was able to overcome their adversity really has me hopeful.
    Thank you, seriously.

I was on the verge of diabetes. I’m not sure what would be worse, this ear injury or that, but I turned my health around and blood pressure too. Exercise has never been a problem for me, but I look forward to it now with a new perspective. I used to rollerblade for the adrenaline rush down hills, but I can settle for a walk in the park. This injury has re-evaluated how important everything is in life for me, not just music.

I’m 32, I’ve had tinnitus since. Was 18 and hyperacusis for the past couple of years, the last year has become more extreme and now I basically live in ear plugs when I’m eating, out in the street, in a supermarket, basically everywhere I’m not at home in peace and quiet. Every time there is a noise that rumbles the inside of my ear I just feel pure anxiety. I feel like I’m never going to live a life without having to wear ear plugs all the time. I’m currently using -27 db customer moulded ones and to be honest there are times I think I need a bigger reduction. Nice to see at least others are managing to cope with this. I pray for the day I can 🙏🏻

Thank you for raising the important point - essential really - that this is a mind-body issue. The more we "hate" it or want it to just "get better" or focus in on the symptoms, the harder it is to recover. I know it will take time, but I am following a similar approach as you, and also using various practices to calm down the nervous system, focus on the body (yoga etc.) and staying "willing" to have it. Anxiety and depression are strongly associated in my case and I find the better the mood, or the calmer I am, the less severe the symptoms. Stay positive everyone (and do stay away from bad news, including negative crap on forums or patient discussion groups or reddit etc...).

Hi. Sorry for late replies. My tinnitus and hypercusis have not changed. Through AWARENESS based meditation, I change my relationship with 'pain & suffering'. Instead of wishing tinnitus or anything else to be healed, to be gone etc, I ACCEPT what IS!!. By accepting and not constantly fighting the MIND (mind's thoughts, and stories) and just OBSERVING what the mind throws at me and OBSERVE them like sky observing the clouds, storms etc, being AWARE has brought me peace and calm and not wanting to CHANGE this and that, I feel at peace. hence, cortisol level comes down. I feel peace.
I can't explain this well. I strongly recommend the pain book by Dr..E Sarno, taking up NON- DUALITY meditations and learn to be in the PRESENT MOMENT.

Loudness hyperacusis and pain hyperacusis (noxacusis) are two different things. Enduring noise when you have pain hyperacusis will only worsen you, potentially to extreme levels (constant 8, 9, or 10/10 nerve pain). This video should not be taken as advice for those who feel lasting physical pain in their ears around noise.

You’re incredible and you helped me get out if a really dark spot. I knew that people can habituate to tinnitus but didn’t know that it was the same with hyperacusis. I just can’t believe that people never talk about these conditions. Loud sound is everywhere and depending on your occupation sometimes you can’t escape it. For years I thought that damaging your ears meant that you just lose some frequencies faster as you age. I never knew how easy it is to damage them and develop symptoms like tinnitus or hyperacusis. This needs to be taught in schools from a young age…

Still can’t eat dinner with my family most nights though, I stay in my room and listen to background noise. Pretty depressing. But most days are easy to work with. I also have sleeping anxiety and less sleep makes it worse, specially tinnitus. This shit really sucks and flips your whole world around.

I have Diplacusis Dysharmonica in addition to my hyperacusis and it’s one of the things keeping me from returning to music, nothing sounds the same anymore. Used to have perfect pitch and now everything just sounds atonal, mostly sounding like 2 notes a semi tone apart just grinding against each other. Wondering if you had/have this as well and if so how you dealt/deal with it as a musician. Thanks.

Have only had hyperacusis for about 5 or 6 days, and it is certainly on the milder spectrum than what it seems some of you are experiencing, so please dont light me up in the comments, i know some of you have it so much worse, and I have no idea the pain you've dealt with. It came on while having the flu, which seemed mild so i just sat around listening to music for 8 hrs a day. Noticed a brightness to my system, so just kept messing with it not knowing it was this starting, and it kept getting worse. Then just on. Just gave this concept a shot, i.e. positivity and giving no energy to even the idea of hyperacusis, and am immediately noticing a major reduction in symptoms. Practicing hearing right through the "veil of the condition" to the music that I'm so passionate about, dancing to it and giving the middle finger to my worrisome thoughts, and all of a sudden the highs esoecially aren't turning me inside out. Thanks so much for the info brother!! 🙏😁

  • @rewgrrr
    @rewgrrr Před 2 lety +2

Did you experience physical pain, though? Not to discount your story -- it's wonderful that you're back to it and I'm extremely happy for you, truly -- but it seems that every success story I've read involves "loudness H," not "pain H." Unfortunately I have latter -- deep, sharp, biting pain in my ears from even the most minor sounds. It's taken years for it to get this bad, though -- at first it was "loudness H" and in hindsight, though I might have called it pain, it was really just "discomfort." Not true, "make it stop" types of pain like I'm feeling now. I'm starting to believe that these two things are actually completely different conditions with different mechanisms -- one being "loudness H" and is often probably actually misophonia, hence why sound therapy and essentially "gritting your teeth and getting on with it" works; the other being "pain H," which the most current research by Paul Fuchs shows is a very rare activation of otherwise dormant pain receptors in the ear.

So I’m now less strict but I need to go back somewhat to less inflammatory foods. It’s hard to stop eating the foods you love but sometimes what you love is what your body is allergic to.

Intriguing video. Hyperacusis hit me at 18 and has massively impacted my life for the past 20 years. How do you listen through it when the brain reacts with a state of panic? I've often tried to ignore it because I know the sounds can't damage my hearing, but end up with extreme fatigue, nausea etc for days afterwards. I suppose it sits deeper in me after all these years.

It was about 6 months before i even realized i wasn't noticing it. key to remember is that if you think about it, it re-appears. also key is that if you let it stress you, it probably won't get better. which is rly hard - to not feel stressed! my live band were wondering in july 2016 why i was so moody in rehearsals. its was my hypericusis, which at that time was 5 months old. by keeping up with your music work, you train your brain to 'listen through' the tinnitus or hyperacusis. I hope your baby is ok, and congrats are in order, despite what must have been a difficult birth.

If you have Hyperacusis some people say always protect your ears at all costs and don't ever use sound therapy.
Others say use sound therapy (pink noise) but don't over use ear protection for normal day sounds/activities as it becomes more sensitive... Obviously in loud places use protection. What do we do? Example being here..:
"Wearing hearing protection making hyperacusis worse is a bullshit lie made up by TRT enthusiasts. You absolutely MUST protect your ears and be in silence to recover. Sound therapy makes hyperacusis worse. STOP doing sound therapy, PROTECT your ears as much as possible, AVOID loud environments at all costs, and most importantly give yourself time. The reason your hyperacusis is getting worse is because you aren't protecting enough".
