- Two schoolmates - who bought a remote western Queensland pub on a whim two years ago - have paid off their purchase.
Grant champion and Tom Auriac paid former owner Tony Jackson a thousand dollars a week for two years. And now the Stonehenge Pub in outback Queensland is officially theirs.
The trio says a unique interest-free vendor finance arrangement is an example of people in the bush helping each other out to keep a valuable community hub alive.

Our Aussie spirit. What a great story!
Excellent idea for young people. Wonderful vendor for doing this. 👏
Two young publican's love it
Bunch of legends. I love Aussies. Just some real genuine blokes. “fair dinkum” to the core. From this NZ Maori.
Nice story - thanks! All the best Grant & Tom.
Well done to all concerned. 🙌
Good on you lads and good one YOU Tony.
Good story ABC. I must stop there for a beer and a feed next time I am in the area. Diamantina National Park is just to the west of Stonehenge, so a major attraction for outback travellers.
Good on them and best of luck boys.
Great stuff.
Jeez, there was a lot of trust in that arrangement.

Fantastic.
Great town to visit
Free camping 😊
Well done all round!
Keeping it ozzie thats good!!
Our society has been built up around unnecessary and overvalued accountant, lawyer and banking fees.
Nice to see the people taking the power back.
2 yrs to pay it off. $1000 every Monday so its $1000 x 104 week = $104,000, sounds very cheap.
Choice.
What? ABC allowing us to comment?
