That part!
First time I heard of Penny was before he got to the NBA. Back then college basketball was better than the NBA. Me and my friends were talking about CB and the good teams and players then. And one of my friends said Memphis had this guy named Penny who might be the best player in college. I started watching his highlights and although I thought he was good Webber to me was the absolute best college BB player at that time.

Best all around basketball player I've ever seen.
Handle, pass, post game, score inside/out, rebound, finish and lead the break and a high basketball IQ.
He could have been an all star at PG, SG, or SF.
uh this is a cute comment but LeBron has started at ALL 5 PG, SG, SF, PF, C. Has been an elite scorer, rebounder, finisher at the rim, post play, defender, playmaker at some point in his career.
@@danielevans142lmaoo man come on we donât need to be bringing in Lebron for no reasonâŠPenny was legit letâs just appreciate that! Lebron has his flowers no penny fan is trying to argue Lebron is worse or whateverâŠappreciate greatness!
100% agree with you my man we can do that...but lets not make outlandish statements. Im a hoop historian and grew up lovin penny. Had the penny 1s and collected his rookie cards when i was a kid.. hes one of the biggest what-ifs if it werent for the injuries..@@billyjoebeanie4468

To LeBron stans...Even the ur hero says his game is broke lol. He just works hard at it. What you are witnessing here is a natural born basketball player. Those who have actually played the game seriously know one when they see it. Not to mention they are actually playing defense.
I moved to Pennyâs hometown of Memphis in 92 when I was 10. He was a star at Memphis State, now U of Memphis. I had started watching the NBA already, but Penny going to Orlando is what made me a hardcore fan for years.
Excited to see what Penny the coach can do with the Tigers this year. First game tomorrow night against TN Tech.
A little bit of Magic and a little bit of MJ. Penny was damn exciting to watch.
@Sam
World in my life I thought so. Quite specifically, this is my idea of ââPenny
kneaded himself from Jordan and Magic! My favourite player.
I'm sorry for your injuries!!!
True,i think same
I'd say a blend of Magic and T-Mac
Literally a Magic man....
he was both and that makes him the best, with Jordan.
One of my favorite players of all time wish he couldâve won a ring.
He was getting cooked by mj sadly his garbage self couldnât get a ring
@@whiteybuIger lmfaoo nice bait.

Sadly theyâre was a guy named Hakeem in the 90âs
Nick Anderson Missing 4 straight free throws
Penny's game was so silky smooth. Stylistically, his game meshed better with Shaq than Kobe's.
Agreed
Shaq would agree.. Shaq knew that the Magics wasnt looking for chips. They Have Walt Disney Company to worry about.. Kobe eventually studied Shaq and Penny and made adjustment.. Theyre Duo was Ok compared to Shaq and Penny
@@Jeanuwine Magic went to the NBA finals. What do you mean they weren't looking for chips?
I met Penny Hardaway when I was 12 years old. He was very nice and cool. At the time I was going through a lot because my mother was just killed. He obviously didn't know that but him shaking my hand just made one more day easier. This was in 1992. And I will tell you he is the greatest basketball player that I have ever seen with my own two eyes in person. And on TV I haven't seen nobody better unless it was Michael Jordan. Penny Hardaway was class personified on and off the court. Me trying to be like him kept me out a lot of trouble up until a certain point. He most definitely should be in the Hall of Fame oh, that should have happened long time ago. There is not one player that possess the skills that Penny Hardaway does collectively in my humble opinion. I have never seen anyone with better post foot moves and footwork. And he was like a human pogo stick Jumpin Out The Gym. And his defense was spectacular. And you could not leave him open from 3. The only person I've ever seen with a better mid-range shot than Penny Hardaway was Michael Jordan if that's even accurate. And his passing ability oh my goodness you talking about reflexes like a cat. I remember those days back in beginning of the 90s. Penny we forever love you thank you for all the great memories.
My Condolences to you and your family.. I totally Agree. Penny Is a Legend.. Probably the Only inspiration I have ever had in sport.
My favorite player of all time based on skill, style, IQ and attitude. Penny is golden.
Fun fact bro, but his last name should've been Golden (lastname of his biological father) but his mother or grandmother opted to use theirs, Hardaway. :)
Facts. My top 5 favorite player!!
Mine too. He was so smooth with his game and a proper point guard who always wanted to make his team mates look good.
Penny is bronze actually
not le36?
He's got Jordan, Magic, and TMac in him. Didn't realize he dunked on so many good players.
You mean T-Mac had sum Penny in him
Welcome to the NBA pre-2003 youngin
Glad to see the appreciation vs the delusional hate
Penny also embarrassed Pippen, Kobe, and Grant Hill several times...
1:56..one of the finest passes i`ve ever witnessed. Penny could move so amazingly smooth, it was a joy to watch..
That pass was disgusting. I had to replay that I donât know how many times đŻ
I had the pleasure of watching almost every one of these highlights live my dad lived in Brevard County and we used to watch all the magic games a privilege as a Young Man
Put him in the Hall of Fame already!!
Benard King was great, got injured, came back. If the players can vote him into the HOF so can Penny.
Man had Penny stayed healthy for the majority of his career, he would've won at least one championship. The man was 6'7 but had unbelievable court vision as a passer, was able to attack the rim, really good on defense and had one of the best jumpers you'll ever see... One of my favorite players to watch growing up and also the first jersey I ever had thanks to my dad... shame what injuries did, but in his prime with Shaq, this man was a walking bucket. Hbd to one of the đđđ
Who would he have won the 1 ring with?
Orlando or some other team?
@@Terror832 I think had he and Shaq stayed together a little bit longer in Orlando and had a legit third/fourth option... they've would've won at least one
He would have been in the HoF. Injuries killed him.
Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing.... the list of "what if" goes on and on forever, but Penny did have the coolest jersey though, gotta admit that

He goes along with T-Mac, D Rose, Brandon Roy, etc. as one of the NBAâs greatest what-if stories
Happy b-day Penny!
I always put Grant Hill in that category as well!
Brandon Roy was hell
Heard Brad Daugherty was a bad man too.
@@paolosanchez2927 Yeah he was. One of the most underrated centers of all-time imo.
D Rose, Brandon Roy, Dajuan Wagner.
That block (on AI) and the hustle @ 4:15. Knowing that he's been ravaged with knee injuries at the time, that was just pure heart man!
My favorite player of all time. Everyone loves Jordan for being Jordan but Penny was my guy. The fact that he's such a stand up dude off the court is admirable as well!
One of the Greatest to ever touch a ball đŻ
Him and Shaq were incredible. Wish they couldâve won a ring together.
Nah
Yeah, me too. One of those Rockets rings should belong to them.

These are some crazy highlights, he dunked on almost every major center in the 90's! Salute!
I heard Shaq talking about penny in a recent interview. He said penny was already at that level when he come to the NBA . He said it took kobe a few years but penny was ready from the gate
Tho Penny came in as a 21 or 22 yo and kobe straight out of high school
Damn straight factual đŻ
Shaq knows what he's talking about.
Kobe entered at 17 while Penny entered at 22 đ€·ââïž
Penny was a 5 tool player no weakness as a player except for durability issues when he was entering his primes!đŻđŻđŻ
I just love the way he dunks!
The launch, the silhouette, the throw down, the sauce, all of it đ
Dunked on the greatest big men in the game (Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, Mutombo, Mourning, Malone, Parrish) with the exception of Shaq. Then the tallest guys in the game (Muresan, Bradley, Smits, Longley). This legend had mad hops, my all-time time favorite player. Happy 50th Birthday Coach!
Yep, I didn't even realize just how many 'victims' Penny had.
He posterized a lot of big guys.

His first 3 years were so electric and exciting. I saw him put the moves on so many great players including, Kobe, Pippen, Grant Hill, and Jordan. Besides being a great passer, he was also superb on defense and shooting.
That behind the back and then spin with the pass to Nick Anderson was about the coldest dish ever!
Man I miss 90âs basketball. You had to earn the right to be called a star and you had to have game. Penny was a monster before the knee injuries. He was on his way to a hall of fame career. Penny, Grant Hill, and T Mac......the biggest âwhat ifâsâ of the the generation.
Grant hill was like Lebron with a better jumper Penny was like Magic with offensive game and T Mac was like KD but with crazy athleticism
Shawn Kemp too. He was on the cusp of an NBA championship. He ate himself out of the league. Kemp and GP took Karl Malone and John Stockton out of the playoffs.

Easily the most enjoyable player to watch in 90s

Top 5 favorites!! Living legend!! Regardless of injuries heâs still one of the greats!!!
His spin and dribble was remarkable, great times
To me, he is naturally the best fundamental basketball player of all time and unselfish. He dribbles well and one of the best post up and head-fake cross-over with spin move. Too bad, he was a little shy guy. Just watch his high school & college films. He plays pure beautiful basketball.

Good damn comment.
Not one weakness in his game, except that he may have not always wanted to be selfish. He's always my first pick EVER.
Just imagine from growing up watching this guy playing against your father and your uncles and donkey on them at a young age I have the privilege to say that I've watched this
Tim Duncan obliterates
Penny hardaway before the injury was dominate
Dragan is better.
If Penny Hardaway stayed healthy he would have been one of the greatest like Magic Johnson but with a jump
One of my favourite 90's players to play in the NBA.
Pure gold... Prime Penny was second to noone in his era for his unique style
Penny dunked on all the legendary centers: David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Robert Parish, Dikembe Mutombo, Shawn Bradley
Shawn Bradley was not legendary lol
He is lol
Heâs 11 inches taller then hardaway
Robert Parish played at the time were penny was
Shawn Bradley was never legendary.
Here's what is lost on people when watching Penny Hardaway highlights. For a guy of his length Penny had the quickest feet I have ever seen. Penny had long legs and a long torso and yet he (when healthy) was one of the quickest, most mobile guys on the court any given night. When ever anyone wants to say Westbrook is the most athletic PG ever (justifiably so) I tell them watch Penny Hardaway vids.
You spelled Derrick Rose wrong
Basically a 6' 7 Russell Westbrook with a great jump shot. Anfernee was a better passer than Derrick Rose and had a better jump shot.
And he Did it humbly with a Smile on his Face. No Rocking The Baby, No Showing off
Yeah I thought to myself while watching this that he has that westbrook d rose electric burst from the feet. It is amazing he had that with all the skill and talent as wellâŠ
Loved Penny Hardaway, his game was fire besides MJ he was my second best player in the league
Penny hardaway has been forgotten and young people will never understand how great he was

Penny the true G.O.A.T for this generation which never had chance to see him he was like MJ, Kobe, Lebron and Magic all rolled up in one. One of the best to ever play. What could have been.
If Shaq didn't get impatient, him and Penny would've gotten a title. Shaq said it himself.
If Orlando gave Shaq a 100million contract he wouldve stayed
For sure after jordan left they will rule the nba
That would have drastically changed Kobe's legacy. Very interesting. đ€
Shaq got jealous Penny was starting to get Jordan and Magic comparison level attention and respect.
@Umb O Yes and he got jealous of how big Penny was getting
Penny was starting to get Jordan and Magic level attention.
Same way he started getting jealous of Kobe. Really him and Kobe started being jealous of each other.
He knew when he went to Miami he couldnât have any tension with DWade or people would have noticed a pattern. Plus he was on the decline.
To this day Shaq suffers from attention jealousy.
You donât gotta tell me his stats I watched them play in real time. I been watching Shaq his whole career dude is who he is.
It has nothing to do with how great he was as a player or his stats. It was about his physical limitations, Shaq always wished he could do all the things that guards could do. All the fancy dribble moves and passes he liked that.
You guys gotta learn to evaluate things from a 3 dimensional perspective. It will help you learn how to maneuver in this world.
Penny was always a handful for my Bulls back in the day.
My favorite player of all time! He and Shaq together were a dream team and to watch them play the other dream team Jordan and Pippen was the best era of basketball ever! So sad how short his career was cuz he had it.

What could've been he was destined to be one of the greatest. Injuries stole Penny's and our chances of seeing so many great moments from his playing. We saw the super star but sadly it disintegrated too soon due to injuries.
