Constructive criticism, if I may: I love the content, but cannot stand the constant zooming in and out on your face when talking (the cuts jumping back and forwards). This is really jarring to me, and it may be for other new viewers too.

Mate, I'm glad somebody spoke some sense.
    1. Lighter is so much better. Case in point is the RG405M which would have been a near-perfect device if it was plastic and the old RG350M years ago I replaced for the 353P for that reason (among others). Even the PS5 DualSense seemed to introduce fatigue during long play sessions compared to predecessors.
    2. The bigger and close-together face buttons/d-pad like a SNES controller are so much more comfortable (especially for retro gaming).
    3. Quiet/mushy buttons/shoulders are getting overlooked way too much. Anbernic's buttons since the XX line have been obnoxiously clicky and cheap-feeling but reviewers are so quick to forgive that... Bullpoopy! I know it's subjective but I couldn't understand anyone who recommended the RG35XX/+ over the MM+. When I held both in the hand, it was night and day. The A30 isn't perfect but I agree it would have caused more of an impact if released earlier (build quality issues aside).
    Great video. :)

Im really worried about the device heating up (mostly) based on the screen brightness aside from the type of device being emulated. I have bought anbernic rg35xx H for my sister recently and wanted to buy myself a retro handheld for my own and been pretty conflicted in which one to buy.
      My candidate right now is:
      1. Getting another RG35XX-H to match my sister. We can also host bluetooth and the like for coop play
      2. RGB30 for the screen. Im also interested in PICO-8 games. Though I hear the buttons are kinda shit and there are charging problems (BIIIGG NO NO for me)
      3. Miyoo A30. I really like the small factor and its relatively cheaper but I really hate the device heating up and it seems its less powerful compared to the RG35XX H (my main games are GBA, PS1, and PSP)

The A30 is great with MinUI or Spruce. Personally love the MinUI due to the extreme fast boottimes and quick resume function, even though it comes with the drawback of no DC or N64. Love it as much as my RG35XX H, because of the pocketability.

My 2 complaints on that is the size and power, if the rg28xx internals had that design, it would've been perfect for those that want a 2.8" screen. But I personally can barely read on a 3.5" screen so that's really just small. If I didn't have the rg35xx h I'd probably spring for the rg40xx h easily.

What i really like about the miyoo a30 will probably reflect why i like it. It is portable, comfortable, and inexpensive. It is to me a secondary or tertiary handheld, and if you treat it that way, it will serve you well. I am running minui on it. This is the perfect device for minui. Consider it as a backup handheld. That is the optimal use case.

Spruce OS 2.1 definitely makes this thing sing and shine bright like the diamond in the rough that it is. I've been enjoying Donkey Kong 64 on mine with minimal slowdown, mostly during cutscenes. Stock OS at this point pales in comparison but CFW on these handhelds is almost just the norm at this point. I would love Onion OS on the A30 but for now Spruce OS just works with little effort.

Vlad, you're a legend, this is the review I've been waiting for. The A30 was my dream device, I stalked it for months before release, ignoring the 28XX because even then I could tell the buttons were too damn small. All I wanted was a horizontal device that was small and could do up to PS1 with shaders. But then the A30 came out, got slammed, and the 28XX reigned supreme. I ended up getting a 28XX, and while it is a great device, the face buttons hold it back for me.
Now that the A30 has Spruce, and with your words about the face buttons, I think I can confidently switch out my 28XX. I actually found you through the MuOS discord for the 28XX lol, thank god I did! Love your videos man, keep it up.

I received my A30 this past Monday and the more I use it, the more I enjoy it. There are things that I do not like about it, such as how warm it gets, and that it has an old chipset. Then I began thinking about its use case and your correct it’s great for small gaming here and there, play while running errands or late at night. I do like that it does play a decent amount of N64 and Dreamcast with the thumbstick. I thought the 2.8 inch screen was too tiny but it’s actually not bad at all, and at around $25-$30 it’s a good overall choice. What I like to see is more custom firmware available to improve on efficiencies of the device. Spruce is ok for now, and I appreciate what it does.

I believe Miyoo didn't know where to move after the big success of the Mini and Mini Plus, it feels like they wanted to close the circle with this one and move to the next chapter, but for some reason they never did it.
Would be interesting to know the reasons tho, as they were in a very good spot and just let the momentum drop.
They couldn't source more powerful SoCs? Money issue? Trying to milk too much and too long on mini and mini plus?

Now that it's actually here I just felt...ugh, it's so ugly. The design language is completely different from the miyoo mini which I find a bit disappointing. It's mostly the joystick and the front plate design that throw me off, although I am kind of slowly aclimatizing to it...to the point where I may or may not have accidentally purchased it yesterday.

I still don't understand how people can stand the d-pad on this thing. It's completely unusable for Tetris, you just drop blocks every time you move left or right. The screen being completely unprotected also rubs me the wrong way. This thing sucks, don't buy it. Buy an R36S or RG35XX model, not this trash.

I love the d-pad. It's so comfortable for PS1 and GBA games and I'm not generally playing games like Contra or Tetris where false diagonals can be killer.
It's a weirdly use-case device that no one can agree on because it has a very strange set of pros/cons

I picked the 28xxh. And no regerts ( it's a bitch intentionally misspelling shit 😢). But the 28 is such a good introduction to emulation.
