    Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and more convenient for a family to watch TV together on one device rather than everyone needing to get a headset just to see a movie.

    • @kevinbailey8827
      @kevinbailey8827 Před 4 měsíci +5

      Absolutely. Unless the family is in multiple locations. Then you'll be able to sit down alone on the couch and be able to look over at the personas of your family members as they enjoy movie night with you. You'll even be able to talk over the movies and explain the parts your loved one's just don't get.
      And if this takes off, everyone will have one of these already. They won't buy them for movie night, or for any one thing that's not worth the $1500 that these things cost. They will buy them for the whole experience. Or they'll buy the Samsung version. Or the Meta Quest 5.

      Things moves fast this days. As u said, if it replaces TV means cheaper to get vision pro for the whole family. Just like this days everyone has a phone 30 years ago we use one phone the whole house. You can patent a helmet that can attach to vision pro and hepa filter. Another pandemic will make that useful

    I agree with you. I don't think that Apple Vision pro could replace smartphones because not only would it be impractical to wear it around all day, but also anyone would look tacky in public with it on. I think this is just a luxury item for those who have enough to drop several bands on whatever they please, which is definitely not me, but I'd love to try it out one day

    • @sparky6757
      @sparky6757 Před 4 měsíci +2

      I don't agree that it's a luxury item - it has some genuine value as a tool, or at least VR headsets as a whole do.
      But it's a specialized tool. It does some things better than a phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, or gaming console can do, making it fit nicely into some people's work or personal lives (ignoring the price tag, anyway), but it doesn't do all the things you'd want those other devices for, so it's not going to outright replace any of them. It may replace tablets in one person's workflow, but another person really needs a tablet to do their graphic design work. It may replace a laptop in one person's workflow, but another really needs a physical keyboard for their excel spreadsheets, or a physical screen for showing work to coworkers, or a specific program that doesn't exist on the Vision Pro.
      Me personally, I use my VR headset for gaming a few dozen times a year when the mood strikes, or for exercise if I don't have the opportunity to do anything physical outside of home for long periods. I could live without it, and I would never spend 4 figures on getting a better model. But for other people, what VR headsets offer is just plain useful.

    it's not about replacing the phone - it's about creating new spatial experiences. I was fixing my car and my stupid phone can't do anything - I have to watch a CZcams video and try to follow along how to fix it. AI should make it so if I wear a Vision Pro - it should see what I am seeing and if I ask it what I want to fix and I am looking at the hood of my car - it should be able to understand and guide me with arrows on the stuff itself. There is so much to this platform and AI. Among other things. The Phone can't do these things. But the phone does things that these glasses can't do. Gotta have both to improve our lives.

    i dont think it will replace the smartphone but it has the ability to radically change how we interact with our tech. like when the iphone came out it never replaced computers thought it is for many the computer they use most. also with like selfies. before the front camera and social media apps existed no one would have imagined that it became such a big thing. maybe we just cant even imagene yet how and what it will change yet. also what new ways of interacting and sharing will come from this technologie.

    • @QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4
      @QnjtGWonQNqVsbYyzjx4 Před 4 měsíci

      I doubt companies should focus on VR headset that tries to replace a phone or computer. It will just result in a bulky, expensive headset like the Vision Pro. I believe as smartphone tech is not compact enough to put into glasses, they should instead make them complementary to smartphones. Imagine a thin and light AR glasses with a simple camera and battery that is tethered to the iPhone to process. This will be wireless so the iPhone is running invisibly and with a transparent OLED to save on cost and battery life. This can be priced at $500 and can be developed with 2024 tech with decent battery as it doesn’t operate by itself.
      This can have VR and AR features like experiencing real scenes and activate real world electronics. As this from factor goes on, they can slowly add things like proper processor and better components, the smartphone will be slowly became a supplementary device with things like camera and battery from a main device.

  • @HYETUSENGINEER
    @HYETUSENGINEER Před 4 měsíci +7

    I think the impact of ease-of-use may be overlooked here. If Apple pulls off the interaction properly, the jump in ease-of-use will be something like that of switching from using a keyboard only to navigate and operate a computer to using both a keyboard and mouse, or from mouse to touch, but I think it will be bigger --again keyboard --> mouse. When most of your tech can be connected to a device like this and you can operate your devices and apps with gestures and commands that require only a small fraction of the effort when compared to the last control paradigm we may find ourselves adopting devices like these much faster than this video suggests.

    I think it's kinda funny - some people are saying VR is doomed, some people are saying it's "the future", and very few people seem to think it's a possibility that it's a separate piece of technology from anything else with inherent strengths and weaknesses, which will slot nicely into some people's workflows or free time but not into others', like a desktop, laptop, tablet, gaming console, or anything else digital.
    The smartphone is pretty much universal, it's like the swiss army knife of tech - does everything most people need reasonably well, in an easy to carry and use form factor, and with how integrated technology is into society it's a must-have. Everything else I just listed, and now VR headsets, are more specialized to specific tasks. I own a VR headset, and it's
    - a decent alternative to a home gym that needs less space
    - a fun peripheral to play video games with your own hands instead of just button inputs
    - a way to virtually create more/bigger screens
    And there are some professional applications too, ones I personally do not use in my line of work. Absolutely VR headsets have value. But do they do _everything,_ like a technological Swiss army knife? No, they do not. Do they do anything unique that _everyone_ needs? Nope, they don't do that either. That doesn't make them a gimmick, any more than a chop saw is a gimmick - but most people I know do not own or need a chop saw.

    100%. I love VR (apple can try to rebrand all they like) and could definitely see most PCs and personal computer monitors replaced with improved VR devices. Currently battery life and comfort are issues but if they can eventually be equivalent to a pair of glasses then personal PC monitors are just gone. For most people their is no need for a laptop or PC now and the percentage that need them shrinks constantly. Shared screen experiences like a living room TV to watch movies together is something I struggle to see VR/AR ever replacing. If the VR screens can be light and good quality it would still make sense for them to be effectively an accessory for the smartphone with the phone having your data and more processing power that doesn't need to be strapped to your face.

    While I actually agree with what you’re saying, one thing you need to consider is the fact that you’re applying current functionality of a smatphone onto spatial computing which may not necessarily apply. VP might disrupt societal norms in a way that we can’t possibly imagine now. Easiest example I can give is photography and smartphones. Before smartphones very few people even considered the idea of taking photos in public. That was a hobby for photographers. Once the camera was introduced on the smartphone, society shifted and now we can’t imagine a world without it. This was CREATED by the phone. In short maybe it’s not going to replace the smartphone’s functionalities but may introduce new ways we interact with our world which could make what we do on smartphones less appealing. Personally I think AI devices have a better chance at doing this. in future the idea of looking at a screen… yeuch!

    Personally I think that we're heading for a point where computing is no longer done on location. I think that efficiency and processing power will both be solved with faster cellular and wifi connections that will allow you to have a compact device that would be about the same weight and size as a pair of glasses that, through bluetooth or wifi or some sort of wireless connection, is able to be equally as powerful as any desktop. We may even see companies use server farms that these devices connect to rather than people buying their own computers. Yes, that would create some privacy concerns, but it's pretty apparent that people aren't that concerned about their privacy when they get something out of it. All of this will bring down cost and reduce complexity and power consumption and make headsets cheaper than current smartphones. I also happen to think that everything, including taking photos, is something that can be solved with software. We just can't foresee how those problems will be solved now, just like every other technical problem we've ever solved. Plus AI in just a few years time will be accurate enough to fully rely on for all text input. I honestly would be shocked if smartphones were still widely used in 15 years.

    Selfie stick is a good comparison. I always wanted one. But when it comes to buying on. I never do because I don’t want to travel with extra stuff. Same with a GoPro. I’ll buy another GoPro before I ever get a selfie stick because I hate I didn’t have one when I rode ATVs in the desert. I still wish I had my own GoPro when I drove a Formula 1.

    I won’t say it cannot replace a smart watch for everyone else. I don’t see this replacing the smartwatch for “me”. I do not like wearing glasses on my face for long periods of time. I got lasik for a reason. When I drive and the sun is in my eyes. I wear shades only in the car. That’s why I don’t bring them in the house. With that said. I am “not” walking around with extra large goggles on my face. I slap on my ultra 2. Wear it for multiple days. I charge it while in the shower. The end. I am curious about the Vision Pro. Curious if there’s any use I could enjoy using it outside of movies or CZcams videos, etc. But outside of OF. I mean, honestly, I have no plans to get this. Maybe when they release the SE model for 5 Hundred or something.

I have it on wifi for most of the day (if at home) and use Apple Music while at the gym, and turn on GPS + Cellular when I need to make a phone call. It lasts all day (5:30am - 10pm) with no problems. Hope this helps.

    Nobody said the iPhone is being replaced by vision pro. The iPhone is being replaced by the watch, earbuds/headphones, and tablets/foldable phone. The reason why is due to price, nobody wants to buy a $700+ every year. It’s better for them to charge u $700 for a phone, $400 for a watch, $300 for the earbuds; as you could justify to yourself to buy earbuds,watch every other year or 2, as u hold onto your phone for 5-10 years. Vision pro is more for home entertainment.

      @@TailosiveTech what I meant was the I phone will become the new iPod. Most people I've come across prefer to use there watch to do quick stuff (answer the phone, quickly reply to a message, change song, ask Siri a question). The iPhone isn't going away but the younger generation is using iPads, watches, earbuds to do stuff. As much as I find foldable devices ridiculous, they are the next evolution of mobile devices. Wearable will be superior to mobile devices in 10 years. The iPhone will end up taking a back seat and will be in the category of the Mac book. The iPhone in 10 years will be more of a mobile power bank that can take photos and FaceTime.

    Otherwise I agree, is just too isolated of a device to go fully mainstream, and tech wise if we didn’t manage to get on smartphones a 2-3 weeks battery life, as the old Nokias from 2000, this would require an even bigger breakthrough to be “yes, that’s it!”

    I think you're underestimating the pace of change. In our lifetime, the VR era will come, and probably go. Smartphones will long be forgotten.
    This will be replaced by technologies we can barely imagine. When my mother was young, she was working in a big hospital, which had invested a lot into buying ONE computer. That computer took up an entire room and had its dedicated technician. And basically all it could do was manage the equivalent of an Excel page. A LOT can happen in one generation. Oh, and it's evolving much faster than it was back then.

Smartphones came and in barely 5 yrs dominated computing. Most radical changes in tech come from unpredictable products, VR is very predictable and has so many issues.

    I think your right. The current Vision Pro is too cumbersome to replace a Smartphone. It may have more of a chance if could be shrunk down to the size of a pair of glasses, but even then, it wouldn't meet everybody's needs. I think the real smart phone replacement will come from a combination of retina and cerebral implants. Such implants would allow you to be continually connected to the cloud and communication services, enhance your visual capabilities (night-time vision, infrared etc.) and augment your brain's processing power and memory (e.g. translate in real time etc, instant access to large amounts of data, maybe even create a virtual copy of yourself for multitasking or enhanced sensory perception ...). But this will not be in my lifetime, but maybe yours.

    Will see the state of things, in about 10 years.... I think a lot of how things will be then is going to be dictated by the wallet. What sells will get more funding to keep pushing the technology further and further. What doesn't sell, well it's going to get sidelined to some extent. Apple will keep trying new things which is great. But at the end of the day, if it doesn't sell then money and resources will back what can turn that investment into a profit.
    See you in 10 years, the wait should be interesting....

    As much as I believe AR technology does have a lot of potential, I don’t really see a world in which people wear a headset, or even something as small and light as a pair of smart glasses, all the time when out with people. I don’t think it can be compared to AirPods or Apple Watches because, as humans, we fundamentally communicate with our faces and it makes us uncomfortable if we can’t see other people’s faces. Even if we could have smart glasses with transparent displays that look exactly like normal glasses, I still don’t think people would want to wear them because they would worry that the glasses would make them look uglier. Because of that, I think AR devices are going to be something you put on to do very specific tasks and then you take off and don’t really wear passively.

    I certainly dont think first gen "spacial computers" will be replacing phones, but I think they're on their way. Apple is clearly gearing up for that by offloading the battery into a pocket. Imagine in a 5-10 years from now with new battery tech to get more capacity in smaller space, chip enhancements, AI capabilities - all of that might be going into our pockets and connected to a lightweight pair of glasses with a few sensors on them enhanced by advanced AI algorithms. We will just have to use natural language and eye+hand tracking operate it. I feel like such a techno-optimist right now!!

    I tend to disagree, I think we are starting to see what life could be like without a phone. I think in many, many years to come there will be glasses or even contact lenses which will display practically everything your iPhone does but using more and more AR. This will all be powered on something as small as an Apple Watch. So you’d have your watch as the computer and glasses or contacts as your display. The only thing I don’t see how they could change would be like you said, taking selfies or FaceTime, but everything else could be done with the glasses. Phones will still obviously be a thing because you can’t force everyone who doesn’t wear glasses or contacts to then have to start wearing them to be able to do their usual day to day tasks but a think a huge majority would switch. Iron man days are getting that little bit closes as each year goes on 😂

But we fundamentally don’t like wearing things, especially constantly. Looking at something is very different to having it right in front of your eyes.

      What 3D glasses taught us is that there are three different ways our eyes determine distance, perspective, stereoscopic vision, and focal length; and "3D" glasses only do the first two, and only partially does stereoscopic because it doesn't work right when you move your head. A regular 2D screen does the first one.
      The reason people get headaches when using stereoscopic glasses is because the focal length doesn't match the stereoscopic distance.
