@@superthevibe Sure is. I've been told he knows his stuff, he's just lazy. He probably turns up to inspections in a nice pair of shoes and neatly pressed trousers. Certainly not the clothes you'd wear to get up and down ladders and crawl around under floors. A lazy certifier allows everybody to take it easy, including designers and architects. The building industry can be very incestuous, designers like working with certain builders, builders like working with certain sub-contractors, etc. It allows for a level of familiarity and routine, but this can often lead to complacency and then downright laziness. This guy survived so long because there were plenty of designers and builders who liked working with him. He made their job easier.

Private building inspectors need customers, so will look over the issues or not look at all so they can get to their next inspection. When it was done by government, it didn't bother them if they had 1 or 10 or 100 inspections to do, they still got paid. While that may be true, being over run with work is no excuse for cutting corners and taking shortcuts with a "she'll be right " attitude The inspectors should be delaying inspections and forcing the government to employ more of them. Its not like work is going to drop off any time soon. Especially when the largest financial investment people will ever make is involved, we are talking close to a million if not more for most houses now days. The government also should step in and make these certifiers maintain their qualifications and have some sort of competency assurance program. I work for an agency in NSW with the government that has hundreds of thousands of people's lives in my hands every day and I have to pass competency testing every 2 years. these guys potentially ruin lives with shonky practices.
That said the sh*t flows downhill to the builder who if they did their damn job properly the certifier would not have such a hard time and not try to cut corners.

Wish you were around when I was building with Porter Davis in 18/19! I picked up on more defects than the inspection company I used. And I’m sure there was plenty more missed as I’m not a building professional. I can’t wait till there’s a royal commission into the building industry - I’d love to give evidence of the crap I went through to get my home built.

I just want to say, as a home owner etc, I LOVE the diligence you put into the video inspections. I would never know all the things a builder may do or not do. Things that mean 3 years after moving in, leaks appear, cracks etc because of "dodgy" practices and knowing inspection services exist that without fear or favour will call out on shoddy work is a relief.

Excellent work Sir and it's gathered the momentum needed (in NSW at least it seems) for the government bodies responsible to start getting out from the comfort of being behind emails and to actually pull their fingers out to do their bloody jobs! Ensure the standards are being applied and applied correctly, those responsible are held accountable when that doesn't happen. The VBA are absolutely derelict in their duty to the Victorian public and honestly, they all need to be sacked OR show cause why they should be maintained as an authority! Shame these lazy bureaucrats by exposing the ongoing failures in the industry they are responsible for regulating!

A handover defects inspection is something I do on a semi regular basis and we don't see the same issues in the country - from the majority of builders/trades as most - but not all are local and word spreads quickly here.
I have just had a 'discussion' with a supervisor from a steel frame house builder in Vic which is about 60% as bad as that house - owner has 3 other dwellings on his 'farm' and was building his 'retirement' house, spent close to $900k on the build only, no paths land etc....wanted a handover final done, I guestimated about $130k in repairs needed to bring the house up to par but not to make it perfect, just to make it habitable...VBA needs a sorting out....

First time I've seen your video, subscribed straight away. The work you do is invaluable to the home owners as they're probably paying through the nose to get their house built. So many builders are taking on too much work and the cost of materials is sky rocketing so short cuts are being taken to reduce their own costs and the workmanship isn't there any more.
Had a house built in Sydney in 2010 took six months to build. Just had a house built in country NSW and it took 12 months to build a smaller house at twice the price of the first house.
Every time we heard about a builder going broke we were worried that it was ours again, as we went through four builders going under on us and losing thousands in deposits and having to start again.
That took six years before we moved into our new home in August this year.
Would I ever build a new home again? NO F#$×!ING WAY.
