    Nice vid mate. My approach is the same, I use seaguar grand max 6lb or 7.5lb for any delicate or indicator fishing in summer - makes a big difference, both with presentation of smaller flies and catch rate when moving everything slow. One tip I would offer, is if you keep getting takes on your top dropper, change point fly to fish the washing line and should increase the takes. Doesn’t have to be a nasty booby or fab, a small Diawl bach or cruncher with small booby eyes means you can still fish naturals. Great stuff mate, and now you have mastered the buzzers, I will increase your bird knowledge (im a bit of a twitcher!) coots if they have white beaks, and moorhen if they have a red beak with a yellow tip 😂👍🏻🎣

    Great to see my local water getting more well deserved recognition. I use straight line buzzers year round here, fabulous sport. And I agree on the seaguar fluorocarbon, it is all I have used for many years now, definitely an edge when fishing imitatively.

      The new owners of brick farm are really really nice people and that very often plays a big part on where I spend my hard earned money. It can sometimes be an overlooked fishery and that is a bit of a shame as it can provide some cracking sport even in the summer months when all other fisheries in Kent no longer fish in the summer heat

    I only use my Sigma rods - they serve me well enough and I’m not hankering to spend out more :). Five fish in three hours yesterday : two on mayfly nymph and three on a klinkh. (Plus. 6” tiddler on the mayfly

    Hi Chad,
    Nice Video and you are getting into buzzer fishing more and more. That's nice.
    What I would try is fishing my flies with a small loop knot (Rapala knot or similar). That will make your fishing even more efficient, flies will fish and drop more naturally.
    In clear water I use flies with a very slim body in smaller sizes 14 and less. Kamasan B110 hooks (strong wire Shrimp hooks) in sizes 12, 14 and 16 will hold even the strongest fish. They will fish very well with 8, 10 or 12 lbs. Flourocarbon.
    You will be surprised.

    • @barrybigplums
      @barrybigplums  Před 3 lety

      I sometimes use a repala knot with standard lures like minkies etc and I think it does make a difference wit( the movement .... most of my fish have been take on a size 14 quill buzzer with red cheeks (As seen in the video). If anything does give out on me it can occasionally be the water knot dropper .... It’s only occasionally this happens however

      You will find that you will hook more fish with a loop knot, especially in clear water and when there is only a light breeze.
      Make the loop small and the dropper short enough to avoid tangles. But when you are happy with your fishing, that is ok.

    Quick question, when fishing a team of 3 buzzers, what spacing do you use and how long is your leader?

    • @barrybigplums
      @barrybigplums  Před 3 lety +1

      Depends on the length of my rod ... on a 10 foot rod I use a 12 foot leader with three buzzers spaced four feet apart.... but shorter on a 9 foot rod.....the best answer I can give you is only go for a leader as long as you can comfortably cast....you won’t catch anything if you spent most of your session sorting out tangles

    Hi mate, I’ve recently started fly fishing for the last few months. I Just wanted to know what knot you use to tie your flies on? And also what knot you use for the leader to tipper connection? Do you use loop to loop connections? Also I absolutely love the videos you post mate! They’re really informative and straight to the point. Been to quite a few of the trout fisheries you’ve been to and always say that I’m here cause Chad made a video haha

    • @barrybigplums
      @barrybigplums  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m old school mate I use blood knots for almost everything …. 5 turn on 6lb leader and 4 turn on 8lb leader

    Do you know of a buzzer hatch chart? I know fly hatch charts are readily available but I don’t seem to be able to find a hatch chart for buzzer colour. I’m convinced the same colour buzzers don’t hatch all year round.

    • @barrybigplums
      @barrybigplums  Před 3 lety +1

      In essence there really isn’t one .... buzzers hatch every month of the year (Less in winter of course) buzzers can have totally different colours in different hatches in the same lake or river. There really isn’t any way of knowing .... I tend to stick to black as I don’t think you can go far wrong .... I have also had good success with red buzzers. More important than colour I think is depth you are fishing, the size of the buzzer (I sometimes go down to size 16 buzzers) and the biggest thing I think is having a decent fluorocarbon as when fishing natural I think a thinner more expensive brand really does make a difference

    • @davidhalliday748
      @davidhalliday748 Před 3 lety

      @@barrybigplums you’re right having decent fluorocarbon is a must. I’ve had brands that are very thin in comparison to the breaking strain yet snap all too easy, especially at the dropper knots👍 I’ve managed to find a blog which gives a general overview of which colour to use at what time of year. As you said it all depends on your local water. Thanks again, looking forward to your next video, tight lines 🎣🎣🎣

    I struggle with buzzers. The local place I fish is only around 12 feet at its deepest. What leader set up would you suggest for that depth. Just a two buzzer set up maybe??

    • @barrybigplums
      @barrybigplums  Před 3 lety +3

      I honestly struggled for years with buzzers ... I could not get my mojo going with them.....and somehow in 2021 it just clicked with me . I would fish a ten foot leader with three buzzers spaced equally apart. A nice breeze of about 8mph is perfect.... don’t give up mate I honestly could not catch for multiple sessions using them but now I use them all the time .... if they are drifting in the wind then they are fishing ... if you need depth put a small mend in your line and by the time that mended d gets pushed out by the surface drift your buzzers will be deeper..... about every minute or so I slowly draw in 1-2 feet of line too... this lifts my buzzers up and allows them to drop naturally.....it’s hard sticking with something when you see others whipping out fish with damsels and cats whiskers but honestly try and stick with it mate .... I’m glad I did..I’m by no means an expert in the method yet but I’m going to keep practicing
