- in this video we show the step by step procedure of how to remove and install a Jeep TJ fender. This procedure will work on 1997 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ models. It may also be similar for YJ Wranglers and JK Wranglers. The process is simple, but some bolts may break because of the rust that builds up on these vehicles due to the weather and conditions they are typically exposed to.
Use lots of PB blaster or some sort of penetration oil and heat if you feel a bolt is being stubborn to try and prevent breaking. This way you won't have to drill the bolts out and insert new nutserts.

Clear. Well lit. Thorough. And to the point. Exactly what I needed. Brilliant!
Exactly what I needed. About to do this install and this was a great guide to follow.
Awesome! Hope it turns out good!
Awesome video, one of the few that actually shows how to put the original equipment back on. Thank You.
Glad it helped!
That was a well-done video. Thank you for showing how the job is done.
Hope it helps you out!
Thank you man! Not only will this help my fender repair, but it will make engine work a LOT easier.
Awesome! Glad it helped!
GREAT JOB MAN YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY ....
It was a good bit of work but at least you have a video to help 😉
Sweet, I surely appreciate your work man! I haven't really looked into removing my rusted fenders, same spot on both sides all the way through. I guess that's what I'm doing come next pay check. Haha, thanks again!
You got it! Glad it helped you out
Great video! Gonna do the same side fender on my 03 TJ today. ✌🏼🍻
Thanks! Hope it helps!
This video is fantastic. I am prepping to replace the fenders on my 2000 TJ and this video is a perfect guide to have for easy reference!
Awesome! Glad it helped you out :)
@@TheSundaeDrive I will post pics of the job once complete. I am painting the new fenders this weekend. Doing the removal and replacement the following weekend.
Sweet! Best of luck with it
MJF, nice!
Sure is!
This is a great video! I am in the middle of changing out my two front fenders on my 2005 TJ Unlimited (LJ) and this video has helped a ton. I ended up breaking two bolts on my first fender removal, and if you want a suggestion for a future video I would love to see how you repaired the nutsert that broke. But thanks again - great detail explaining all the parts that have to be removed out of the way.
Awesome! I'm glad it is helping you out. Best of luck with the rest!
Very helpful, I am looking ta buying a tj that has a huge rust hole in the fender so seeing how easy it is to replace is helpful
Awesome! Glad it gave you confidence to try!
This is way better than cutting it out
Well done
Thanks! Hope it helps!
Seems pretty straightforward. I'm now starting to see rust coming through on my '03 :(... Nice to know I can replace them myself, painting them will be another story.
It isn't bad for install but we had a shop paint it
I primed my replacements again then hit with bedliner
Even if totally sealed underneath, if that plate has any airspace between it and the fender it will allow condensation to form in hot/cold climate. Sun hits the top side on a cold day, condensation forms even if sealed. But the seal will slow down the effect. I need to do both fenders on mine. Ugh. My plan is to put bed liner on the bottom side.
Thanks a lot for this great DIY video! But did i hear you planned about POR15 the new fender before install it? I just bought my 2 new fenders but like you said, i want to prevent this poorly waffle bracket design to rust prematurely again.... ciao!
How did you get the POR 15 under the plate? This video is very helpful.
Sweet LOZ tattoo!!!
Haha thanks! 😉
Jackstands people!
Agreed! Always important
Great vid but I would add sealant on the underside of the fender as a rust retardant and drill some holes in the underside structure plate to aid water drainage.
No a bad idea. Hopefully the por15 will work it's magic and keep it from rusting out
For anyone with a Sahara: the extra trim pieces are clipped onto a rail that is riveted into the fender. Just took the driver's fender off so I could get at the engine better.
Thanks for sharing!
I also have a 2004 mines an LJ also in solar yellow and I’m re doing the fenders
Hope the video helps!
Great video. My drivers side fender is going bad and needs replacement you've just convinced me to do the job myself. One question though: Did you buy the fender already painted or did you paint it yourself?
We had a body shop do the yellow And did the POR15 on the inside ourselves. POR15 is mostly intended for rusty metal. I would talk to a good painter for what the best paint/epoxy is to use on the inside and have the outside professionally done
@@TheSundaeDrive Thanks. Yeah I keep POR-15 on hand. Good idea on bringing it to a painter! If I did it in sure if end up with runs out orange peel.
another option is to spray them with bedliner
Great vid, thank you! Any chance of doing one for the drivers side or is that job pretty much the same?
No problem! It should be pretty similar but there will be different things to remove
Interesting, I see room to install a 2008 amphibious snorkel before re installation of the fender
Good point!
Hey I busted my front end and the passenger fender and grille assembly are a little messed up, should I replace both at the same time? Or can I replace just the fender then the grille later? kinda expensive.
So the Side Marker lens just pops in and out of the black plastic fenders?
Could you drill a weep hole or something in that plate so the moisture could come out?
That would probably help. spraying some sort of rust inhibitor, undercoating, or maybe fluid film type stuff up there might help as well
How much would you charge to do this? If I already had the fender? Or how much would a shop charge
Did you repaint the new fender to match the jeep or did it come that way.
Also, was the new yellow fender the same shade of yellow as the rest of the jeep?
We had a body shop do the paint work and they did the matching. Came out pretty good 👍
This Jeep looks very familiar
Did you just paint it with spray can oem part color. or did you get a pro to spray it? Need to do the same but painting a primered fender is pricey. unless their is a cheap alternative
We had it sprayed by a professional but he was a friend so it wasn't too bad. We applied the POR15 ourselves.
Hey nice video man. How preparation going for the kies auto show? Hope it's going well. Looking forward to the giveaway as well whenever it's announced.
Have a nice day
NinGamer when will the giveaway winner be chosen?
Within the week! We are editing the video for the autoshow and will announce the winner in that video!
Where did you get your fender? I’ve been told you can get them prepainted
I hope you still read comments seeing the age of this video. But I have a jeep same color as yours fenders are shot and I want original look of fenders. Was it hard to get the yellow to paint match? I've tried to find yellow ones that arent gone but it's like impossible and I would rather have yellow fenders than black ones but idk if its difficult to match the yellow paint
We do still read them! Not too big for that yet 😉 so the paint on the rest of the jeep was in pretty good shape and they were able to match it really well. This was a brand new fender of course which is probably the way to go because of how these tend to rust out.
@@TheSundaeDrive thank you, I think I'm just going to get my paint code have a place mix it up and put it in a spray can for me and do that with a clear coat to put on top to get it as best I can
Where do you find an OEM fender like that?
Awesome video how long did that tske?
Besides the prep of getting the new fender painted, it was probably about half a day with filming.
Por15 then matching yellow paint on top of that.
What serial number for the fenders did you purchase off the website, a little confused matching them with my 2003 wrangler?
The OEM serial number for the fender is: 5003950AL
According to Quadratec this is the fender for 1997-2006 Wranglers: www.quadratec.com/products/12502_102_07.htm
looking for a bolt kit for the fenders
Great vid, did you paint the fenders yourself or buy them painted? I got a white 2000 tj that needs fender replacement
Purchased them and then had them painted professionally. We also had POR15 applied before the color
I have an 06 wrangler. Do you know if the fender is the same as the one on the TJ model?
2006 should be the last year for the TJ so I’d imagine that it should work. Does the front end look like the one in the video? 2007 would be the first year for the JK Wrangler and that Fender would be different
@@TheSundaeDrive I can't really tell, but are you saying that the 06 Wrangler is part of the JT class? They're the same? Ty
I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler. My jeep has been in quite a few accidents, and I'd like to replace the fenders. How much do you think it would cost if I bought them and replaced them myself?
At this time is looks like Amazon has Driver and Passenger side fenders for $163 and $112 respectively. There is also Quadratec but they sell each side for $232. I’m not sure if the difference in quality but you can expect to pay between $275 and $464 for the fenders. Then you need to get them painted which could cost another $150 so anywhere from $425 to $614
How/where were able to get the factory color done after you ordered the fender?
It was paint matched by a body shop. Any good body shop will be able to using paint cards to match the fading of the paint over time. For the best match, you'll want to blend the paint after it is installed. This turned out pretty good tho
Was thinking about that reinforcement bracket under the fender could be filled with that spray foam insulation so there’s no air able to get in. Maybe drill holes in the ribs and just fill it up. May work quite well.
Mine has spot welds to the grill
MJF vibes
OOPs...he mentioned the sealant...sorry about that.
My girl crashed my jeep into a stop sign and I was able to get it back on the road pretty easily
Glad this helped!
Had some trouble getting thee grill aligned properly for the new hood. It’s essential to get that bracket part back in the front rear 3 bolts
No need to remove battery tray or battery.
13 mm
Thanks!
This is not fun when you only have hand tools
Power tools help for sure!
