- The Snugpak Hammock Cocoon is like a sleeping bag for your hammock. It is a great cold weather camping solution. Just zip the Cocoon around your hammock and you will be toasty.

Oh man! That looks like exactly what I'm looking for! I'm heading up to the Adirondacks next Friday for an overnight canoe trip and I'm planning on using my hammock. I was just planning on using my MSS and a sleeping pad.
This looks like it would be the perfect compliment to the system.
I just have a hard time keeping a sleeping of under me in a hammock.
Stop worrying about if your rambling Bryan, some of us appreciate how in depth you are about the gear your rambling bout.lol! You explain things very well and for me, that is very helpful.thanks for your vids!
Thanks Rodney.
at least he is aware he rambles sometimes :)
Simple and quick, I love it!
+Traveler1226 I will be using it in colder weather but I bet it does fine.
Thank you, Brian! Love your videos. Great speaking voice, knowledge and skills put together in your presentations make them enjoyable. I have three of the Snugpak gear, i.e. under blanket, quilt and the OD blanket. Other than being bulky they are great stuff! I have to use my ILBE pack to carry them and the rest of my gear. However, with spring coming soon I will be able to take the under blanket and quilt alone. The cocoon seems like I should be able to take it and maybe the jungle blanket for temps down to 40 as I am a warm sleeper. Anyway, keep 'em comin' Snugpak!
Thanks Alex
Thank you Bryan, great video! Great product.
Thanks Leslie.
I have the snugpack mosquito hammock and I love it. This would really be nice when the temps start dropping and it gets windy. I could not find it on their website. Probably still too new. Thanks for the review. And I like sleeping in hammocks too.
Hi Brian! Thank you for this review. I have one on "save for later" at Amazon and at just under $72 it's a no-brainer vs a $300 under quilt. I bought four Snugpak items last year and I love them: hammock, jungle blanket, quilt (top) and the under blanket. I didn't buy the cocoon then due to all the "bad" reviews. It seems though Snugpak listened to the consumers and tightened up their QA process. I love how simple it is to affix to your hammock. I notice you're a Scout leader...kudos to you, Brother!
Thanks. I actually prefer an underquilt but it is good to have choices
Brian thanks to you I have some Snugpak products now. just ordered a hammock and tarp on Amazon today. slowly getting some gear to camp and for other emergency situation of they arise. I enjoy your videos thank you so much for making them
Thanks for watching.
Great info and product Bryan. I'm thinking more and more that hammocks are the way to go, as long as there are trees spaced the right distance apart.
one thing i like most on your videos, you seem like a genuine guy. i never get the feeling you are lying or pushing certain views or certain equipment. just honest opinions on gear based on your knowledge and experience. well done! and yes, i like Snugpak too. just got my poncho and liner from amazon. also picked up a wool blanket, plan on getting a bag together for my Jeep so if i get stranded i have basics covered and wont be in danger.next up some water and food items for a few days . and toilet paper lmao
Good idea
I'm a huge hammock sleeper too when camping and it is much better than trying to deal with all that tent mess. Happy to see that someone made a good covering for a hammock. I know at time times when camping the temp can drop while you sleep and not stoking the fire. for a lil rambling of my own I got myself a schrade ProHunter ST5C folding knife and so far I like this lil folder. As always my raw and rustic friend great review and done in my preferred style.
Thanks I'll be trying mine out as the temps drop.
Wow that is a great idea, going to save my pennies and get me one . Good video Bryan!
I thought it was genius.
This review sold me on it.
im just getting started in bushcraft & I am glad I came across your channel. im 46 & seem to have a lot of the problems sleeping on the ground as you mentioned. ive been thinking about hammocks for a while & this vid. was the over the edge factor. thx great vid. & channel
+bushcraftnBIGfoot Hammocks are the way to go as far as I am concerned. They are just trickier in cold weather.
It's amazing how camping/Hammocking is all about experience. Trial and error. For people on a limited budget to buy top of the line equipment and goose down this and that, it is all about trying it out and slowly building out your kit. I bought a relatively cheap tarp. Nice and dry, but the wind always seems to shift direction and ends up directly down your body. I bought an under blanket and it made no difference because of that. Trial and error. I have recently bought a winter sock so looking forward to trying that, and a Free soldier tarp. I was attracted to it because you can configure the tarp to create doors that should help to eliminate some of the wind chill :) But yes, money is tight, and it takes time to purchase kit that will do the job. And make a camping experience comfortable. And lots of testing. But this system looks perfect. It's an under blanket and bivvy rolled into one. Might even have to invest :) And it seems really good value for money. My only advice to hammockers (and I am a total noob!) is don't drink too many whiskies and then get in. I fell out 5 times! :) Lesson learnt (maybe pitch the hammock closer to the ground next time... less distance to fall!)! 🤣Great video Survival on Purpose. Thank you. Respect.
I love it. Love your video, love the review and your honesty and now I want one. Might I suggest that you add a long piece of paracord to the zippers so you don't have to strain to grab the zippers to close them....AWESOME, Thank you
+415 Mazer Good idea
Great idea, very bulky too. If it really can replace a sleeping bag, great concept. I'd really like to see you testing it in the cold. Thanks for sharing, Cheers, Marc
I plan on it when it gets cold here.
+Survival On Purpose Did they give you a temp rating? Have you ever used the Grand Trunk item that is similar to this? The GT was destroyed in the reviews. Thank You for your excellent review channel.
I could use one of these . wonder about condensation in cold weather. Thanks for sharing man.
The small openings at either end and leaving small hole open over face should minimize it. I'm gping to use one in conjunction with my hammock sleeping bag to give me more days ro camp in colder weather.
Thanks for making the video. It's exactly what I was looking for. You ramble a bit but I love your personality. That thing should go nicely with my underquilt but I hope they're warm enough. You appear to live where I used to live. Now I'm in The Rockies.
Anyway, thanks for making that for us.
Ramble? me?
That's a super neat idea. Using sleeping bags in my hammock is always a total pain in my rear because they're always sliding around, slipping, etc. This seems like a great way to get around that problem entirely. For $80, I'm sold if it's good down to decent temperatures. Not that you couldn't just put a blanket over yourself once you were cocooned.
I actually prefer an underquilt now
Oh gosh, this is exactly what I need. I own the same hammock and like it, but my last attempt to sleep in it did not end well and that was at 8°C or so. Basically, I didn't think to bring a pad and the cold air underneath the hammock got to me. My squished sleeping bag provided zero insulation for my back. I NEED this.
It is a great idea.
Great video. Thanks.
Greetings from Sweden.
+SmokeDiver9311 Hello Sweden
No problem. Yeah, it seems really really well built , just like their sleeping bags almost. I couldntn get the zippers to hang even when I tried. I hope you get a chance to check one out.
+Marshall Moore we'll see
Every one hates on eno then proceeds to express their love for much more expensive hammocks that not every can afford. Get what you can and go enjoy life upgrade when you can
I don't hate on Enos but I do prefer my more expensive Hennessey for camping
good video, thanks. one pressing quiestion.. does it allow side sleeping?
I mean with the knees in fetal position? (for a large male)
Brian, I just received my Cocoon and it appears that its been upgraded/ redesigned to fix a lot of the issues people had with it. Mine has heavy duty YKK zippers with different color interior and exterior pulls that are stamped with the logo and " SNUGPAK" and also textured and contoured, the baffle is vary thick and now is upgraded to prevent the zipper snag you mention, the grosgrain loops extend into the cocoon and have extra stitches for support, it came with shock cord on a 4 loops and clear instructions to hang it properly, the logo is in the middle on the left side. I'm beyond impressed with it to say the least! Maybe Snugpak can send you the upgraded version 2.0 that I got so you can do another video showing the changes? A lot of people were not happy with their cocoons when they first came out. I didn't or haven't seen anywhere that Snugpak has listed the new design features to let people know that they indeed listen to people such as yourself, who have great ideas on how to improve the product and do honest gear reviews that a lot of people watch before they make a purchase. I love the channel brother, keep the vids coming!!!
+Marshall Moore that sounds cool. Thanks for the heads up.
Love God Love your channel. Another great product from snugpac. How cold before you need a bag??
Now that is cool! Now to figure out a system almost exactly like that, for dogs. :) Thanks!!
And try keeping a dog in it.
I watched your review on the Military Outdoor Clothing Previously Issued U.S. G.I. Modular Sleeping Bag System. You said you were going to do another review once you used it. I don't see one. Can you guide me to where it is please, if you did do one?
Well timed video Brian as I have just found this cocoon on the snugpak website,I currently use an old winter bag as a cocoon but it is too bulky
I think it's a great idea
I know this is a old video. I noticed what looked like the stuffing poking out of the end of the hammock? How well made is this? Big downside, cannot use with my Hennesey with mosquito net.
Not sure what you saw but it wasn't stuffing. And, no, it doesn;\'t work with my Hennessey either
i can't find it on snugpacks site. i cant find it anywhere for sale.
Im curious if it would be really awkward to beef up the system with adding a sleeping bag if things got very cold. Would it be to confining for this option?
+Owl Scout It might be pretty tight. It depends on how big you are.
What would you say the temp rating is?
Very cool, should warm up well and prevents insect bites.
I think by the time you Wes this the bugs will be mostly gone. At least I hope so.
Nice skunk. Lol, so, how cold do you think this would work by itself? Do you think it replaces the need to carry an under quilt or sleeping pad? When does this come out? I don't see it on their website.
+Rush Yahr I think it should replace an under quilt for sure. I guess it depends on how cold it gets. I am waiting to hear back on availability.
Hi Brian I see this is a year old video on the cocoon how warm was it for you in the colder temps. I'm thinking of buying this.
Honestly, I have not used it much. I use a Hennessey Hammock when camping.
How would this work over a hammock like a Hennessy that has the bug net and tarp?
+Christopher S it wouldn't
you have the first product of the cocoon the new have better quality
great video
Good to know
Very good review. Nice concept but much too heavy. If they offered a cocoon with down and lighter materials that would help but I'm wondering how bad the condensation would be on a cold damp night. It might not fit a hammock with mosquito netting (i.e., WBBB) as it looks like a tight fit for a hammock. I'll stick with my top and under quilts.
+MrWinger1951 It is just another option. I Like mine.
Thank you for another great video review. What is the temperature rating for this? I earned my Polar Bear Award with my Scouts here in Michigan this winter in my Eno Hammock, but this looks like a much better set up.
+twotonenavy They don't have a rating on this one.
That's a great idea!! How wide a hammock does it fit?
+Outdoor Archives Like a single.
Looks like a great product, but I think it would be way to small for my largish Hennessey hammock with the built in ridge line... Thanks for the review :)
- Martin
Yep. It is not gonna work with a Hennessey.
I admire your willingness to laugh at yourself , most people would delete their mistakes. Good on you. Thanks for the review I have a hammock that I use daily on my sunporch and in the winter months I think I could use this . Thanks again I bought the Snugpack Bunker a few years ago and it has held up great . Not very many reviews on it ......hint hint. God bless brother PS OSOE 12 gauge rig / Cop rig review Hint hint
12 gauge? Maybe somebody will send me one...hint, hint.
I just got mine at outside outfitters.
+B- WEBB Cool. Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like a product that will work. Is this supposed to replace or augment a sleeping bag? Does it have a temperature rating on the bag? Didn't see one at the product site.
+Chip Sanford I couldn't get a rating. I'll be using mine this weekend so we'll see. It can either replace or augment, depending on how cold it is.
+Survival On Purpose I just ordered one and after it gets here I'll be checking it out too. I bought mine online from Barre Army/Navy store for $59.95 and they also gave me a 10% discount.
I'm not seeing this listed on their site yet. Do you know what the temperature rating will be and cost?
I'll see if I can find out.
Please
Cost is about $79. GoingGear had 2 yesterday. There is no temp rating. BTW, I have found that many sleeping bag makers have gotten away from temp ratings recently.
Except for Snugpak which usually prints the tested ratings right on their sleeping bags.
👍👍👍👍👍
Praying this is affordable. This is exactly what I have been looking for for 2 years. I'm not paying $300 for it, though.
I'll try to find out.
$80 I think.
+MAD Punty I bought two off ebay today new and delivered for $118 total to give you an idea of the price.
Wow, thanks!
amazon has them for $50.
Does it work with snugpaks underquilt?
I am not sure how the underquilt fastens so I can't say.
Love it, so no need for a sleeping bag at all????
+The CheviotWildCamper this basically is your sleeping bag
Hey what happened to your buddy "Pepe LaPue"...LOL? looks to be a good alternative to under quilts. Thanks Bryan. atb Opal
+Opal Preston Shirley I will let you know how well it works very soon. I plan on using it this winter.
Snugpag has some nice entry-level gear. It's very affordable so most people can get outfitted but it's far too heavy and bulky for anything but backyard and car camping.
Would be nice if they did a premium line where they used lightweight fabric and down. Sure....the cost would be a lot higher but I'd bet it would still be lower than competitors.
Ultimately, when you really get into hammocking, especially in colder season, you will appreciate the "pro" equipment that is out there. If this interests you for future upgrading, check out:

Hennessy
And many others.
My Hennessey is excellent
Where did you buy yours? I can't find it on Amazon.
+Traveler1226 They sent me mine to review. I can't find any for sale either. I have contacted their rep and I'll let you know when I get an answer.
Its winter now, can you try it now over night? Pergapa a time laps
It's not winter here in Georgia.
Shug ? whoooo buddy
I can't juggle.
I got a response from profoce equipment they do not rate their hammock accessaries due to there being to many veriables and that the hammock cacoons are also a blanket. Not sure how they are a blanket and they said the way they rate their sleeping bags are based on being in a tent and on sleeping pad. Though I would share this new info.
Yeah, I think sleeping bag ratings in general are are not based on a universal standard. The folks at REI told me last year that many manufactures have stopped putting temperature ratings on their bags because of this. It makes it pretty hard to compare apples to apples so my advice is just to go with a company that has a good reputation. Snugpak is one such company. Thanks for sharing what you learned
Thanks for sharing, will you do a long term how it's holding up, how or if you like this snugpak cold weather cocoon update video please, thanks and God bless
Probably not. I use a Hennessey Hammock and this won’t work.
Survival On Purpose Thanks for the reply
hey love that hat where did you get it from?
+mark gliszinski that is a Tilley. They sent it to me to review. It is the best hat I have ever worn, hands down.
mark gliszinski Have you got a contact number for Mark. love this hat
mark gliszinski, does he have a website?
the only thing that i find annoying with mine is the fabric on my face when zipped up all the way. heavy but i like it. thanks for the video cheers from canada
Hello Canada
hi,
Thank you for this interesting video.
Just a question... what is the brand of your hammock ? also Snugpak ?
Thanks, have a nice day ;)
+Bruno Olivié In this video, yes.
Yes ;-)
i didnt see it in SNUGPACKS site. nor can i find it for sale.
+someguy Me either, I sent their rep an email and I'll let you know.
Great video. What is the temperature rating of it?
+Ed Cook They don't give this one a rating
Tie glow in the dark cord to the inside zippers to find your way out at night for a pi$$ and a length of cord on the outside foot end zip for easier reach and closing.
cool
I did not know that you were in the scouting movement ( I am to)
+the fluffy guys I have been for years. We just had a ceremony for one of my son's tonight to award his Eagle Scout rank,
+Survival On Purpose it must be cool to have a dad in scouting mine is too busy
I'm a Irish scout
What was up with the skunk?
+Adam Mickelson Skunk? What skunk?
can you lay on the diagonal?
+Christohper Reynolds not on this one.
Even with an 11' hammock, the cocoon barely allows any angle for sleep
Does anyone make a system where the cocoon is permanently attached to the hammock?
Not sure but I prefer the versatility of it not being attached
thats crazy size and weight
It depends on what you are doing. It may not be for ultra light backpacking but I use a hammock when I camp with the Scouts and we are not always hiking in. It is no bigger or heavier than many cool weather bags.
i cant find it for sale
+someguy I know. I contacted them. I'll get back to you.
good rundown, too bad you couldn't try it out in real winter conditions.
It was just not winter yet.
Hi Bryan is this cocoon water proof? And what is the insulating Material inside? Wouldnt a normal sleeping bag do the job as well? Greets
+Shadowman No and no. You would need a tarp to keep the rain off you and if you were to simply lay in a sleeping bag, you'd compress the bottom of the bag against the bottom of the hammock and negate all the insulation value of the bag. Just like sleeping with a sleeping bag on the ground, it won't keep you warm on the bottom.
+rogue109 good point thank you :-)
Shadowman
You know, I thought later, maybe you meant could you just wrap a sleeping bag around your hammock, but I don't think this would work either as most sleeping bags are far shorter then most hammocks. At least my hammock is 11 feet long so I don't think a sleeping bag would work very well that way either...but might be worth trying out.
rogue109 Nah you was right at your first statement i didnt think bout the point you mention normaly i am able to think logical and i am not the dumbest person on earth therefore i am angry at myself i didnt think about :-)
what is temp rating on this, thank you
+Outdoors Idaho I could not find one. I'll see if I can find out.
+Survival On Purpose thank you for your help
DOES THIS HAVE A COLD WEATHER RATING?
I'm checking. But most sleeping bag makers have gotten away from ratings, at least that is what I am learning.
Nice idea. But for that money I'm pretty sure I can get same result from a $30 Coleman bag I dont use anymore. It has 2 zips one for feet so could slip it on like that sew a tabs on entry ends to tie to hammock or top rope with elastic. 2kg is my sticking point on this.
Different strokes...
Survival On Purpose was a very average sitcom
;-)
Love a DIY video with a disclaimer to not do it
+Doug Goodrich Just trying to stay on the good side of Big Brother ;-)
Yeah you showed your troop number; I'm a part of troop 978
+Mike Ford (Mikey) Very cool.
I'm a Irish scout
We have a different system a bit to your we allow girls to join
+Scout-gear15 what's your rank, I'm first class
It looks heavy, big and bulky, plus u have to have the hammock as well
Yes you do
they call me gabby for rambling so much
i like the skunk too
+13scooterdu Skunk? What skunk?
+Survival On Purpose at 6:25
If you are sleeping on the ground with a sleeping bag, the part underneath you is going to compress. Perhaps even more than a sleeping bag underneath you in a hammock?
Perhaps
It would be nice if it had an integrated bug net at the face.
Hmmm.
why not just use a sleeping bag? I forget who,but I've seen someone else do just that and it worked well for them.
What do you do in the rain with a hammock? That might make an interesting video!
Put up a tarp.
+snakemonkey555
Show me!
Put a tarp up what else fool
Bear food pre packaged and hanging...
No different than a nylon tent
I bet you get a ton of condensation if you zip right up!
+Stuart Crane Probably true of any bag
seems heavy
+Jämí Häutzinger it would not be considered ultralight
$77.99
very venerable for attack not liking it ...good reveiw though
Attack? I suppose, but Andy Tran calls hammock campers "bear burritos" anyway so I don't know if it matters much.
+Survival On Purpose haha funny
