    Sam, I really enjoy your videos and website posts. Your presentation style works well for me, and I've learned a LOT about reloading, equipment and long range precision shooting in general. Good value conveyed well. MUCH appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch. I just order the combo with this unit and the Bushnell Elite CONX range finder and have been scouring the net looking videos to learn from. This one gives some good insight on what to expect. Thank again

    Great video, thank you for helping me get familiar with this meter. I was lucky, I didn't have any trouble calibrating the compass. I love this meter, what a great tool. Make sure everyone that you hold this thing by the very bottom. If you hold it in the middle or top the heat off your hand will screw up your measurements especially the temperature. I'm have so much fun with this meter, it's so worth the money.

    Thanks for reviews. The lithium are the way to roll. One other alt was nickel metal not nicad. Nicad is way old school. I wonder if this link version will work Bluetooth with field firing solution PDAs like the Nomad?

      I don't think it supports Windows Mobile. I haven't tried it, though.

    Hi, what happened if you haven’t used it for a while? What you do next time you used it again? Do you have to recalibrate it over?

    I've got another question for you please. Been using the Kestrel Elite with a lot of success. Would you suggest having "spin drift" turned on in the Kestrel (under the "environment" section)? Or just leave it off and DOPE the wind? Thank you

  • @craigmelchiano72
    @craigmelchiano72 Před 8 lety +1

    OK so never mind I think I figured something out. I found how to set the barometric pressure altitude reference to zero but what you were saying is just turn off the barometric one and just leave on the regular pressure and that will automatically be a reference of zero?

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 8 lety

      You don't have to turn off the baro if you don't want to. Turning it off just cleans up the screen. There are a lot of measurements in the weather screen that I don't need for shooting, so I turn them off to de-clutter the screen. You can do the same thing in the Gun Management section to keep from accidentally using the wrong gun profile. Just toggle them on and off as needed. It doesn't eliminate them, it just hides them from view to simplify the display.

    Great video. What range finder do you use? I got into long range shooting last year and I'm hooked. I have a leupold 800 TBR range finder and was looking into the Leica 1600 B. I can't find any good video review on the Leica. Have you had any experience with a Leica or what do you think is a good range finder.
    Thanks, Jimmy

      I just saw in your video gear review 2 that you have the Leica 1600b. Can you do a review on that range finder. Thankyou.

    Great video series in regards to user ability on the 5700! I have owned one for a few days now,but one question i have is Zero weather data..EX my gun was zeroed at 100 at 2500 alt 29.98 baro 50 deg...Now i go use the 5700 at 75 deg 8500 alt etc..Is there any way to put in my ZERO weather/temp/alt/baro conditions within the 5700 or link? I haven't found how to do that or how do you approach this? As you know idaho has huge elevation/weather swings!

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 7 lety

      There is no provision to set zero conditions on the K5700. I've checked several rifles for change in zero from 28.5 to 22.7 SP and a broad swing in temps. There wasn't any change in point of impact. I don't worry about it anymore.

    I'm curious but you have Pressure on, but Baro Pressure off? is that because you just want station pressure? and you have altitude off but density altitude on? thank you

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 8 lety

      Yes. I set my reference altitude to zero and only use station pressure. The only reason I would ever use that screen is if I wanted to use a separate solver, like BulletFlight on my iPhone. If I'm using the 5700 as a solver, I don't look at anything other than wind speed on the weather screen, because the Kestrel automatically updates environmental conditions, regardless of the settings in the weather screen. You can turn the update on and off in the ballistics screen.

    Question for understanding and verification on the Kestrel. If you’re shooting different times of the year with different temperatures, are you adjusting your MV in accordance to the temperature you’re shooting in? Or maybe even throughout the day as the temperature increases every 10°-20°? I’m trying to hone in on using this to the best of my ability and it’s capabilities. Thanks in advance!

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 4 lety +1

      C. Holbert No, but if your ammo’s MV fluctuates in a measurable and consistent manner, you might want to. Mine doesn’t.

  • @craigmelchiano72
    @craigmelchiano72 Před 8 lety +1

    Sorry last question; I think my Station Pressure reference is set to zero already, but how to I access that screen? I have PRESSURE on but BARO PRESSURE off. Does it matter if I'm in WEATHER mode or BALLISTIC mode?

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 8 lety

      If you're using the 5700 as a solver, the only reason to use the weather mode is to measure wind speed. You can see all of the environmental conditions needed for shooting in the "Environment" screen in ballistics mode. The 5700 will automatically use station pressure for ballistic calculations, regardless of what you do in the weather mode of the 5700.

    • @craigmelchiano72
      @craigmelchiano72 Před 8 lety

      +Panhandle Precision thank you. So just to clarify, I can turn off BARO, stay in BALLISTIC mode, (since that's all I really need) and the pressure I see will be station pressure which already has a reference altitude set to zero?

    • @PanhandlePrecision
      @PanhandlePrecision  Před 8 lety

      Yes. The 5700 only uses station pressure for ballistic calcs. It doesn't consider barometric pressure at all. You don't have to do anything at all in the weather mode to make the ballistic mode work properly. They are separate functions.

    I was checking Kestrels iphone app to link to the kestrel 5700 elite and many people say the app doesn’t work. Anyone know if it’s been updated and worth the money to go with the unit with Link?
