For the correction Prince opened for Rick James in early 1980 and opened for the Rolling Stones in 1981. He got booed because he didn't had crossover success yet and the Rolling Stones audience wasn't into urban music.

Funny because Prince claimed Rick James was one of his influences. On his first album Rick James played most of the instruments himself.
It's a shame he is mostly known for his antics, drinking and druguse because he was a fab artist and producer who had a lot of influence on Funk and R&B in the '80s.

If you look at his story, you'll know the man clearly had some major demons (which certainly doesn't excuse some of the horrible things he did), but you can't deny he was a force in his heyday.
