  • A little update on my new Tenere 700, fully lowered now, lower link, lower seat, and forks are dropped (9mm).
    Also I fitted some Acerbis hand guards today. (Much stronger than stock hand guards.)
    And I thought I would take you with me on my first off road run on the T7.
    (Nothing difficult, just a nice bit of a coastal trail along the TET. (Trans Euro Trail.)

    I have just seen you video. I am the exact same height as you. I ride a triumph 800 XRX with the low seat in the city and put the comfort seat back on for longer journeys, it suits my stature well. I am very confident on the road on this bike. Pleased I went for a standard and NOT XRX Low.
    Last Weekend I went the the ABR Festival and sat on a T700 and my feet basically just scraped the ground on tip toes. it put me off even going for a test ride. I am new to off road and I booked a little training session at the Triumph stand. They gave me a 900 Rally to ride. Again, it was quite a tall bike but I could just about put one foot ball of foot down. I was able to ride it, but the height made me a lot less confident and nervous than I should have been, and I definitely dropped it a couple of times after putting a foot down and it kept on going over.

    UPDATE, I just spent a whole day riding in MUCH more demanding conditions. (Going to need a better rear tyre to deal with UK mud) Vid -> czcams.com/video/1vsQxVylzug/video.html

    I have lowered my T7 and added heavier springs, I am 5’9” and sadly carry a few more Kgs more than I like but the heavier springs made a world of difference to the bike.
    I live in Australia and some of the dirt roads in the high country have lots of rocks, the forks would almost bottom out on sharp edge rocks and jar my wrist so the heavier springs negated that issue.
    A thicker, stronger bash plate is a worthwhile investment with the bike lowered as the standard one will dent easily on rocks and could damage the sump, the B+B is a great piece of kit from the land down under.

      Thanks for input. The heavier OEM bashplate arrived today. Also got some rear crash bars from HEED coming. They should be handy for lifting it and protecting the back a bit.
      I will have a look at better springs. But prob need grippier tyres as next thing. Getting wet and slippy here in UK.

    Interesting video. I am a walker and not a biker. But it is exciting to "have a ride" there now, and I love the views and the area :-) Botallack Mine and The Crowns engine house were indeed shown in Poldark 😃

      Did the north Cornwall bit this week too. That was much more full on.

    Just found your videos. Nice route along the old tin mines - the weather helps! I’m taller at 5’10” but shorter legs at 29” inseam. The lowered seat and links helped me, but also a proper pair of Sidi Adventure Boots ( they do help). I ended up changing to a Rally Raid lowered side stand, so back to a safer tilt. Need to lower the front forks still.

    Essential T7 upgrades are springs and remove the ABS solenoid fuse.

    Bugger. I was down that way a couple of weeks ago on my T7 and did a bit of trail running but didn't think to look for riding routes.

      always worth looking at where the TET goes if you are out and about somewhere new.

    Interesting and useful review thanks. (Did you seriously admit - on video - to riding along the A30 at 100mph+...? WFT!? Dude...)

  • @smokinrider
    @smokinrider Před 2 lety +1

    It’s not off road as these trails are all roads.
    Also a bit silly to admit riding at 100+ on the A30.

    Maybe I missed it but what was the amount the new dog bones were supposed to lower the bike? Typically people seem to lower the front 10 mm paired with 20mm dogbones. Your stated ground clearance difference just seems larger than I imagined.
    I have 20 mm lower dogbones sitting around but still on the fence about installing them.

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  Před 2 lety

      I didn’t measure the ground clearance. I just guessed the difference.
      The low link drops seat by 18mm. Then the forks I dropped by 10mm.
      So I’m guessing it’s about 20mm altogether.
      (Front drop probably doesn’t contribute that much to GC at the rear linkage, which is the lowest point on bike. )

  • @BrentCoker
    @BrentCoker Před 2 lety

    Nice video - I'm just about to get a T7 also. Did you install the dog bone lowering thing yourself?

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  Před 2 lety +1

      Yep it’s easy enough. As long as you have a torque wrench and a decent jack.
      (Be aware the manual says not to jack it up under the cowl though.)
      I put a piece of wood in between cowl and sump... just in case.
      I talk about that in this vid... hang on I will copy link...

      Thanks. No sold it about 2 weeks ago. Wanted to do longer trips so I went for a Yamaha tenere700.
      Loved the Fantic for short trips. But it just wasn’t comfy for long days in the saddle.

      @@Tomahawkfalcone only thing I would add to that is that I think it’s a very seasonal bike to buy and sell.
      Many bike shops won’t sell it so won’t trade it in for you. So you have to sell it privately.
      And it’s really the sort of bike that has an ok price in spring. But then hard to shift in winter.

      @@biscuitsalive no, I friend lent me one for 3 weeks in August and I had some difficultys, I even drop it once, but no damage done. I ended up buying a 310gs, it's a nice bike but if you have to make some fast roads it's boring, and you can't only ride off road, or secondary roads. And I was thinking of getting a T7
