Sound of Berlin Documentary
#SoundOfBerlin #Documentary #BerlinMusic - Hudba
Great documentary. Everyone should watch “We call it techno! A documentary about Germany’s early techno scene.” before watching this. Personally I spent a year (95) living in Germany immersing myself deep into the scene. Luckily I made it out alive, unfortunately not all off my friends did. Crazy days and an amazing time. Each city had its own distinct scene all under the umbrella we call techno..
Everyone should watch "Modulations" by Lara Lee before watching anything else.
@@user-mw1li1jk8hthat one is a superb documentary. top class
How did your friends die? Overdoses? Gang violence?
🎶👁👃👁🎵
@@llovebeats3749 lol gang violence in berlin xD Only if you're Turkish/Syrian
I lived in Berlin in 97 as a co-op student and went out every night I could. Tresor, E-Werk, GMF, Tacheles. It was like nowhere else on earth. Great memories.

wow! what are you upto now, if i may ask?
@@wanderlustfunk I am curious too hahaha
@@wanderlustfunk I teach yoga in Canada.
My first ever party was the closing party of the Tacheles
Ok so i seldome, like NEVER write coments on youtube, but now i have to. I saw this documentary in april this year. And i was hooked. I was listening to techno for 3-4 months by then. But not ”Berlin Techno”. I saw this and i HAD TO go to berlin. This june i went there with my friend, we partied for 3 nights. We got into Ohm, Greismulehr, and the last night we got into Berghain.
Most unforgettable weekend in my life by far. I cannot go to regulare clubs after this ! I am ruined ;)
Also yes. Berghain is amazing, and im glad they are very selective at the door. The people inside are so amazing and open!
Well, maybe you should go to Warung and try it...
Ikr. I used to go go Berghain and About Blank every weekend in summer 2018. Since then I cannot enjoy any other clubs.
Sounds Awesome however I would of rather gone to Tresor than Berghain !!!!
@@kremermarcelo315 i was actually in brazil during the newyear, went to Universo Paralello. wanted to go to Warung Beachclub, but unfortunately my friend got sick so iwe had to stay in Rio. next time =)
@@tillarsalan oh yeah! Universo Paralelo is great, but i havent been there... Warung is more into house and techno club!
If youre into festivals, you can look for a more underground one called "Festival Mundo de Oz"
Since ill be moving to Rotterdam, ill enjoy Toffler in the weekends hehe
I'm so glad that I lived close to berlin as a young 18 year old! Truly the best city to learn what real clubbing is like, unparalleled!
Where were you as an old 18 year old though? ;)

Id love to live there!
I lived in Berlin for 4 years. The personal freedom in that city is just amazing.
Be who you wanna be!
Tresor, berghain, kitkat, motzstrasse, irrenhause and many many more ❤️
you really believe that partying in Berlin makes you free?
@@avissawho yes it does
Great documentary. Had the pleasure of experiencing Berlin and Berghain. What a city and what a club! Can’t wait to go back! ✌️
I totally feel what he meant when he said "it becomes an addiction". I went to Bln in october this year and I can't stop thinking about it. Its a visual and audible experience you've never have before.
What did you do when you were there?
@@dylantierney6407 I just came back and I totally concur...Berlin is a city that caters like no other ti history freaks..art freaks...music freaks or even general party freaks 😜 I am all of the above so history and art museums, clubs and bars as well as the general vibe of the city where a must! Hope you have a great time should you decide to visit! ✌
same here feel the same
@@dylantierney6407 I went to Kitkat club, WaterGate and Club Ost. WaterGate really sucked but the two others were insane. I only stayed for 4 days tho.
I went to Berlin my first time in October last year too. I’ve been there two more times, and deep down I wish I would spent some years there. Amazing craziness
Also if we're not producing Techno... we're completely proud to live in such an inspirational and creative city.
That creates an overall loss for the German Economy and has to be sponsored heavily by other states. And why the Technoscene is amazing, its not the only good one in Germany.
This was the best time in my Live, unforgettable.
Been wantin' to see this flick for months now, thanks so much for uploading. Love Berlin from the USA!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Back !!!
I heard this discussions about tourism and comercialization already in the middle of the 90's,standing in the row in front of the clubs, and it's so boring.Berlin is still Berlin, and we can be proud to have a city that is still a magnet for young people that love this music.Liked this documentary...
maybe you should come around, check out berlin, compare it with your experience from the middle of the 90's. there is a huge difference.
Have to say the tracks used in this documentary are excellent.

Long live Techno!!!! Great documentary!!!
Powerful thank you for this video. An instant classic.
This documentary is really good, I watched it with apple music. It could be great with subtitles guys !
i just love berlin and the people
I was in 1999 in Love Parade in Berlin. I had 21 y.o. and this was different different world. I saw people from all over the world who came to have fun and listen to electronic music.
I remember communism because I come from Poland. 10 years earlier in 1989, I could compare East and West Berlin. It looked like day to night. On one side there is the gray world and soviet troops, and on the other side there is a loose color and smiling people despite the surrounding grey wall.
THIS IS BERLIN. 👍 🎶 🎶 🎶
I just feeling so happy because I had this Berlin sound and Berlin life experience, just 2020 was failed, but I'm looking forward to come in Berlin when this "corona shit" will be finally over, hopefully soon. Berlin is a life and if you are music and dance addicted than it's just best place to be,the best place ever, even I was in many other places and clubbing different countries, this special vibes just belongs to Berlin from my point of view! ❤️ ✌️
i was so excited for this and forgot it was on its way. cannot wait to watch in a min

Being passionate about music can also be commercial.
You get problems when you try to be commercial without passion for the music.
I’m a techno purist and followed the evolution of this genre since it’s advent in Detroit, forget the cynics this is a good documentary watch listen and learn.

Thx 4 upload
When I saw these videos from 88-1995... it was like coming home... 🎶🎧🇨🇭👍
None of the vids are from 1988 lol. I find it very weird how there are zero examples of German techno from before 1992, and zero footage of any Berlin raves or technoparties from 1989, not even the first Loveparade. How can it have all disappeared? Loads of stuff from London and Detroit ca. 1988 though.
Excellent story and production, well done.
Was contemplating moving to berlin after like 2 visits there. No city has made me feel this way
Superb !
OMG so cool!
S/O Monolink! Much love from Cali 🖤✊
Very good documentary, all techno lover have to go in Berlin. That's my favourite city all in the World for the music and the People...
wunderschöner film! danke
The nightlife in my hometown Berlin has become provincial and self-referential in the last years, as many of the trivia and clichés expressed in this documentary proove again. Hope the hype moves on to a another place soon so that Berlin can return to a relaxed, subcultural and less clichéd nightlife again.
The real Vibe is GONE. People should be literally educated how to party. And I`m afraid it will never be the same it will only get worse in time.
ketnipz The comment is self explanatory. So you simply as you said, don`t understand. Don´t worry you are not the only one, there is a lot of people like you, people who simply do not understand.
VoB Your sentiment is not only echoed from within Berlin, but also from the outside. Years ago, it was the ultimate thing for people like me, from more rural regions of Germany, to get lost in Berlin club culture for sometimes months at a time. Wrecking relationships, even jobs, just to experience the special vibe. It used to be truly mind altering. Nowadays the Berlin club culture is just being perceived as snobby and complacent. Like a special club one has to adapt to, otherwise you don't belong. And it's not about your state of mind I'm talking about, I'm talking about dressing a certain style just to be accepted. I'm sure this complacency will erase itself as time goes by, until then, Berlin has somewhat lost its vibe, just like you said.
Nothing lasts forever..
100% agree. Lived there 10 years. Last 5 years party-wise was no-go.
That was awesome
Such a great doc!! Really really good
I went to Berlin last month for the first time and I finally understood the vibe that the rest of the world tries to emulate. Ill be going back again for sure!
what places have you been to?
Berlin is the place to be for its cool Techno scene, but avoid commercial places!

great job!
Minute 29:00 when Monolink mentions the no photo policy of Berlin. “How it really changes the vibe.”
We have this battle now at events where all are filming and no real immerse of that person or the crowd. It’s sad. Perhaps that policy will spread. We who attend events can only hope this spreads to other locals as well if not the world. Great documentary!!!

A journey through one of capitals of electronic music... don´t forget others like London, Ibiza etc
und schön aus den 90ern die sachen rausgeschnitten... das gibts schon lange nicht mehr
A journey through the capital of DANCE music. Nothing electronic here except some of the instruments.
Berlin. I love you.
Since the release of this documentary the Berlin club scene has undergone such a weird transformation. It almost feels like it's been reborn. Berghain and all these other previous techno temples no longer rule but somehow the music has pushed on and progressed with new other players dominating the Berlin scene without necessarily making the old temples obsolete.
Super dupa documentary about our capital and the sound that belongs to her like the sky and the Spree.
Berlin is past and future. But especially a big fat NOW!
The reporter said one word, 'yeah'
Berlin the true night sound
Back to Berlin....Back to Berlin ....
No way....deep house and techno together. Wild
Danke für das gute erinnerung.
I lived in Germany for 9 years. The best music scene ever. Absolutely mental. But beautiful people. I find the scene in Britain cold and unaccepting and uncomfortable.
Btw, one of the reason a lot of clubs didn´t stay alive was because they didn´t buy the buildings but rented them, which was not a good Idea at hindsight.
Does anybody have the track ID, from the track starting at 14:00 ? I know a tracklist got posted already but it doesnt seem to contain this song :/
Track at 16:30?
anyone knows the track starting at 39:50. would be great if someone would knew it and share it with me

Too bad i was too young and in the wrong country, to be at those clubs, where techno originated. Lords of Acid are still getting royalties. Their music will never die out
you’re never too old for berlin.
Even if you had a timemachine you'd still be in the wrong country at the wrong time if you went to Berlin in 1989, you'd be shocked to see a David Hasselhoff concert, people listening to New Wave, Punk and Rock like we did in the early 80s. If techno was really created in Germany, don' you think that t's very weird how there are zero examples of German techno from before 1992, and zero footage of any Berlin raves or technoparties from 1989, not even the first Loveparade. Worse than that, those uploads claiming to show footage of raves or Loveparade 89 in Berlin are clearly from mid-late 90s, one is from a club in Belgium. Almost as if someone knowingly is trying to rewrite history retroactively (although not convincingly). If it's true that there was techno in Germany so early on, how can it have all disappeared? Loads of stuff from London and Detroit ca. 1988 though.
@@simonh6371 LOA was based in Belgium. Books are your friends
@@jenmb2679 I've told you that in another comment, same with Praga Khan. Because I don't understand why you'd expect to see them referred to in a Berlin techno doc. Berlin is in Germany, not Belgium lol. If you'd been in Berlin or anywhere else in Germany, you wouldn't have heard LoA or Praga Khan or Manix unless you'd hung out with British army personnel based over there. My German friends couldn't get their heads around LoA or Praga Khan when I played it to them and kept shouting ''NO!'' when Praga said ''are you listening to me'' in ''Injected with a poison''.

A bit misleading title. It should read A Sound of Berlin or The Generic International Techno Sound of Berlin. I've experienced a very different underground/experimental electronic music while living there, yet it was a sound that always seemed be very Berlin-like to me, emerging from that city only. It's an amazing city with all its different sounds, styles and ideas.
Could you recommend any experimental music collectives in Berlin?
There is a very famous book from 2007 called „Sound of Berlin“ and I think that was the inspiration here.
I've found this documentary to be quite cheesy.
