      Yay. Marvin. He was truly a tortured and divided soul. So sad that he was able to bring joy and happiness to others but couldn't find that for himself. He's finally at peace and for that I'm glad. His legacy lives on through his incredible music.

      His father destroyed him and then shot Him. A father.s love, especially in the early years,is totally essential for the child to grow up emotionally healthy. It still makes me angry. The way those church people are so hypocritical and judgemental,as bent as so many of them are. He was a genius.But he went through too much pain ,in childhood and as an adult. The scars never healed.

    • @coryd2668
      @coryd2668 Před 4 měsíci +19

      Exact scenario for my mom! My mom was 14 when she married my dad in 1957! She came from 13 siblings! So my grandmother felt like it was okay to send my mother off like that! One less mouth to feed and in the hands of someone who would hopefully take care of her! Trust me, my mom’s troubles were just the beginning from there on out! Four children later and all before she was 20! Life had a lot of rotten moments for all of us kids and mother for many years! But we tried to make good memories in between! That was our lives in the 60-70’s!!

    • @Iflie
      @Iflie Před 4 měsíci +13

      @@coryd2668 Yeah there's a reason early marriage all over the world is associated with poverty and abuse. Plus kids bodies are not ready to have babies, that same energy that you are meant to grow your own body goes to making the baby. You really shouldn't start having babies until after 20 at least.
      Imagine a husband buying his wife new shoes because she grew out of them!
      And conservatives in the U.S still think marriage solves all issues, like the intimate partner of a woman is not the most dangerous person to her officially.
      Women should get an education and be independent from a man financially before having kids, so she can protect them. Though dads should also protect their kids from the mother of course if she's the bad one.

I sometimes listen to it as I go to sleep. He was so talented. There's a video here on You Tube where he is singing live in 1972. He sings "What's Going On?" and "What's Happening Brother?" Whew! 😅 a lot and I mean A LOT of trauma in that family. Marvin Gaye’s soul was yearning for both love and peace. To be killed by your own father…sheesh! That’s a very hard pill to swallow because his father knew after that incident that nobody was going to deal with him afterwards and plus he walked away free. Although that maybe the case he wasn’t free from having to relive that moment mentally.

    With social media and everybody's business being out there, it is hard sometimes to separate what an artist does in their private life versus what they create. And, damn I did not know all this stuff had gone down in his life.

    Yes, I knew about Marvin dating and having a child by teenaged Jan Hunter. I guess I never fully reconciled that. I was born in 1971. As a small child, I remember seeing Marvin perform on Soul Train singing Distant Lover. I fell head over heels in love with this man and every since, have been relentless in finding out everything about him, good or bad. And still, I love his music and love him ......And I always will. I just learned that sometimes idols have clay feet

    😒🙏🏼Amen! First off, empathy is usually the first thing to go out the window when folks hear what he did. But I believe in forgiveness and Marvin had a lot of trauma in his life since childhood and I’m sure he didn’t address many things in his life that he should have, but he deserves all the accolades for his music. I love his music.

    Some people shouldn't be parents. These abusive parents create children who grow up to be broken and internally tormented adults. This doesn't excuse Marvin's behavior at all because he traumatized the women he was with. I hope those who are victims of child abuse heal. I'm a tormented and broken person because of my childhood, my healing process through therapy has been rough. May everyone find inner peace 🙏

    Dear Karine, I can't hold my comments from this particular video about Marvin Gaye.
    Being a blond child with blue eyes moving from USSR to socialist Cuba in 1979, I fell into a very different world, exposed to and surrounded by all type of music, so "exotic" to my slavic ears from every single corner in Havana in early 80s.
    This particular singer left a happy taste in my first years in Cuba. I didn't know his name, but now, in my 50s, I am finding myself attracted so much to the black singers from 70s and 80s. It became an urge to listen this type of music.
    After seing Marvin for the first time recently, I was charmed by his look, projecting light, soft and smooth charisma.
    What a pain learning about his tragic and controversial life!
    Your videos are like a fresh water for my desire to learn about the musicians and singers who left an aroma and a sweet sense of moving thought my adolescence with groove and rhythm.
    Very important and much appreciated you descrete comments about the rough corners in the life's of your protagonists. And a desire to justify their troubled acts and behaviors. I totally agree with your underlying of historical canvas that would explain the possible reasons of their pains, vices and the whole drama!
    Had the same feeling from your Billie Hollyday's video - difficult story to listen! I never knew and would never suspect!
    I love your sweet voice and adore your "old soul's" vision and recounting - so wise and appropriate - goes straight into my heart.
    Last year I learned about another painful biography of beautiful Nina Simone, - would love to hear your presentation of such a special soul.
    Thank you very much for your treasured material!❤

    His dad was jealous of him from birth, I can't believe the mom allowed the dad to treat her kids, and her so horrible. The dad was a pastor and a crossdresser, how embarrassing that had to be. Jealous of him to the end, to take him out. Rip Marvin loved your music
