Good video and thanks for posting it! Buuut just an FYI for you or anyone using the dimensions shown, either the 1' 3-1/2" or the 1' 9-1/2" is incorrect and will cause people problems. They either need to be 1' 3-1/2" and 1' 10-1/2" OR 1' 2-1/2" and 1' 9-1/2". Hope that saves someone some time and trouble and they don't have to take it apart and adjust some cuts halfway through assembly like I did...
I was looking to build a bed for my kid as my next project, this one is the closest one to the idea i was looking for. Very well done video, you explain everything in details + you are happy making it even with that warped 2x4 that you had drilled hehe but the end result is awesome. Thanks for sharing this with us!
I’ve been trying to make this for like six months. I’m terrible at math and don’t know how to build. I’ve looked at every website for builders and no one will do the job. I might just try myself anyway!
Just trying to get you a full video view, sheesh :P But on the drill guide you tried earlier, you're not wrong about it being useful. However, it's really best done w/ drill bits that are the same size all the way up & down - unlike the Forstner bits which only have their size for 1/2" or so, and then it can start to wander. You figured it out, though, so huzzah! That is a sweet little holder for the drill press, though. I still need to get a metal vise at some point as well. Great build, my friend!
@@JeremiahDaws You're welcome! Well, that would require a bit more planning...and equipment...and software. So I've just stuck to the IG route for now. On a related note, how did you learn SketchUp? I like drawing things out, but I know I should pick it up eventually. I am thinking about some smaller cameras shooting a board game video or do a remote play w/ some friends.
Can you provide a detailed cut list with wood sizes and lengths. Would really help out whoever is trying to build this. Unless you don’t want people to know? Then I understand.
We watched several different videos, including yours, on building this bed and then adjusted to fit our need. We think it turned out pretty good since we really did not know what we were doing. I don’t know how to attach a picture of it, though and we did not make a video.
And this was good, I was just asked to do a similar project and instead of Dowels, I’m going to do bars with dowels inside of them to join, thank you I was wondering how to join the corners lag bolts are good. so they are the self threading? What size lag n drill?
Is this a project you would be open to again? I’m looking for one of these but they’re tough to find and I’m not a wood worker. If so, I’m happy to talk price to make it worth your time. Thanks!
How long did you cut the dawls?and what other wood did you use to lay the mattress on?they look like 1x3 or 1x4s.and the piece you attached to the 2x4s to lay the planks on.
I just estimated the dowels. I don’t recall exactly but they are meant to just float. The exact dimension would be most important for the 2x4s. I just drilled the holes deeper than I needed to which allowed the dowels to float. For the planks to rest on, I used a 2x4 that I cut in half I think. But it could have been a 1x3. It doesn’t matter either way will works.
Great project and entertaining video. I am interested in building this but not a member of a school district. So I don't think I can use Sketchup. Is there another format that you can share your material list/dimensions in?
@@JeremiahDaws I was able to start a free Sketchup Account and Login, but having trouble downloading the file you provided a link to in your summary above. I especially enjoyed Your Smile at the end🤜🤛Cool bed.
For straight holes using drill press, I use a fence on mine or you can clamp a straightedge to make a makeshift fence that would line everything up.
Good idea! Thanks!
You are great!
Thanks i loved this it helped with a lot for my baby

Thank you soooo much for providing the link time to get to work!!!!
do you have a link to the Sketchup file? Curious how it was put together as I'm learning Sketchup currently.
How's it holding with assembly with screws?
After some dissemble/assemble I would guess the wood will loosen up?

You can buy the step by step instructions and material list on Etsy.. but I wish I just paid the few hundred to get it built 🤣😩
Could you post the sketch for the rails with slats instead of dowels?

This is great. Thanks for sharing. That miter saw table…do you have the plans for it. Pretty sweet!
No. Check out April Wilkerson. I kinda stole the design from her. I bet she has plans.
As a mother to a 2 year old who has no experience working with wood. I just bought a $9 plan to guide me through building this.. going to be hard..
Where?!
Where can I buy a plan?
Do you still have the copy of the plan
Why no body is saying what type of lumber used ?
Just simple pine.

Do you think it’d be easier if I used little planks instead of dowels l? I have the drill you used.
Sure. Either way would be fine. Key is just calculating the proper spacing to be safe for little arms and legs.

I sold it. Now that I’m doing more machining, it’s not as useful. I’m working on getting a mill.
If you don’t mind me asking how much was all the materials?
A little over $100.
Do you have a materials list??
What size dowels did you use for this? Thanks!
3/4”
Did you use 2x4 for the thicker boards?
I sure did
What is spacing between rails?
Cribs are supposed to be less than 2 3/8 inch wide. So that’s what I went with.
Great video… but this is not a 60 hour project. Unless you spent like 40 hours tweaking it in sketchup.
The sanding is what took me so long. Haha.

Full is usually 53x75. I’ve seen some that say 54x75.

@@JeremiahDaws Also, what size were the dowels? Like length?
3/4 thick. Didn’t really matter how long. I drilled deep and just made sure they fit in the holes

What size mattress
Just standard twin.
