Not sure on the whole stacking up on allready a scaling champions (the adc nature). Some ideas are simple but the whole deal... Truly fit the needy brat of an adc with self entitlement issues (calling mom for fix his problem, with a very fitting kid tantrum animation)

4:57 actually necrit, the champion insights show those concept arts because they didn’t immediately land on a dragon. It was just the quickest thing they gravitated towards after doing concept art. That’s why the concept arts look like cats and lambs and such.

All they did was texture paint over his model. There was no "fix" lined up, some artist just went in and spent the day repainting his face. The actual fix would be to give him a snout, he still looks hideous

Yeah, pretty sure they already had the new artwork in the works. There's always the possibility of 'intentional publicity stunt with uncanny valley face', but doesn't seem that likely. I think the idea of conflicting art direction is much more likely.. and the other side already had concept artwork done and shown for a less human look. At least enough that they could make some very rapid fixes. 24 hour turnaround is fast, even for just a few assets. Someone likely pulled an all-nighter, if I had to bet.

As an ADC main, I feel so damn happy that we're getting a nice, easy and fun champion for once. I don't find Aphelios that hard after going all the way to M6, but the most recent ones were just a little too out of hand for me to enjoy them that much

@@mrchung I one tricked Nilah to 200k mastery. Stopped playing her and went back to my normal ranged adcs. I never, NEVER lose to a Nilah dude. She’s kinda shit to be honest. People just don’t know how to exploit her in low elo. Being melee in bot lane really is unplayable against good players.

Imagine something like making a champion able to hit other structures before the outer turrets have been destroyed. And they think that's a good idea just because the idea is new, they ignore the fact that you shouldn't just rewrite the rules of the game completely. Same with yuumi, you shouldn't be able to sit invincible on someone while healing, shielding and dealing damage, since there is no counterplay. Kayn Is obnoxious because he can just sit in walls and you are unable to hit him, he also gets faster when in those walls which makes no sense. Bel veth has so many dashes so if perhaps you decide to play a skillshot champ it's just gg. All this creates this dynamic that newer champs have no counterplay, especially if you play older champs, which forces riot to buff the stats of older champs, which doesn't fix the underlying problem in the first place...

His wings just look like everything else about him, just another scaled part of his body, in the concept art, his wings have a drastically different color, and it sells the personality of the "cape" look. Put simply; Smolder needs a contrasting accent color that spreads throughout his whole wingback to sell that "princely cloak" vibe.
That concert art.. I love how riot often makes something incredible and sits on a goldmine but somehow manages to screw it up horribly in the end always.
Super happy about the texture update, I would pull his snout out a bit more BUT that would involve re doing ALL of his animations so it’s understandable why they only did textures

After seeing the biomes for runeterra map, I just realized runeterra is so much larger especially now that they decided to show us the eastern continent. I hope they add more champions from there (Nilah, Viego, Kalista, Hecarim are from there but they've been placed in bilgewater and SI). More champions means more lore for that unexplored region.
"Will he be a menace that ends the world? Who's to say" says riot goblin... Considering the power levels of many champions in the lore i find it funny this could be even considered a possibility.

the concept art face is actually expressing proudness and royalty (plus it feels more like a monster than the smolder we got, which is a middle ground between the ugly sonic and this one), the wings being a cape is way more clear in the concept art as the wings had a different color than the body (which is not the case for the final smolder, so you cannot notice that detail as easily and doesn t strike the eye that much) and his head actually looks like he has a crown (completely missing from smolder). The smolder we got is good, but the concept art is just better at tackling the proud dragon, although it is less cute (i will still take the concep art)

So humans, an ape, can be taught speech as a kid, but chimpanzees who've lived their entire life with humans in zoos cannot speak. Great lore, reality. It's almost as if there can be different species with different levels of speech capability. Also, just listening is very different from actively being taught how to speak. You're not gonna be speaking Japanese just because you had Naruto playing on the TV in the background.

the sound of smolder's recall was so cute, that i actually made a "AAWWN" out loud and my mother asked what happened so I showed her the clip and she also made the sound. I hope he has a lot more animalistic sounds like that, at least in his idle animations. Also good job Simba! hope your hard work was payed with a lot of belly rubs and treats!
I love that we got another Dragon. I love that we have another Camavor champ that isn't Shadow Isles related. I have people excited to play him, and I think he'll be a fun addition to the game.
Necrit, you should 100% look at Vainglory’s characters. It’s an olde frame but it’s me of the games that got me into MOBAs and into league. They have a dragon there named Skaarf who is adorable and has a lot of personality with sounds he makes but doesn’t talk. The game isn’t live anymore he is it would be interesting to see some of the characters there because yes they have some generic themed characters, their gameplay is pretty unique compared to other Moba’s. One example would be Vox who much like Sivir’s W can bounce attacks to other enemies but Vox could be played as an AD or an AP. It was pretty cool seeing your sound based attacks kill enemies over simply attacking them. You could also scout with him as he could detect enemies hiding either in stealth or bushes with his resonance ability that gave a little visual q.
after the design changes I really started to like him i think only things that was off was his face and the ability to talk(for me) as a reptile enthusiast dragon designs are really important for me. Smolder's skull is built like an hatchling reptile's one(including dinosaurs and birds in here too) so thats cool but im not a fan of dragon facial muscles but every iteration of dragons seem to have them so i cant complain about it. Im not a fan of the talking as i said before but it has a lore reason so i accept it, maybe as he grows and his snout gets longer he will have diffuculties while talking human languages(coping). I wish we could see the mother because then i could analyze the model even further but it seems solid for a couple decades old hatchling especially for a "cute" champion. Plus them using lots of animal sounds to creat the moms sound is cool just like jurassic park and all the other documentaries.
2:05 I kind of like this version better but, in the skill preview he looked cool still. I think the color scheme could be better but, he'll have a bunch of cool looking skins later on, I'm sure.
Definitely still in the camp where I wish his snout was longer so he looked less like some strange humanoid cat, but considering how that would require redoing animations, that's completely out of the picture, so I'm glad they at least did texture work. As long as the shading is strong enough to separate facial features in the game then it should hopefully unflatten the face well enough.
Still feel like he could use a real snout and dragon-like eyes instead of a few extra scales and disney cute eyes but it's better than nothing. I just hope he's not considered a "monster champ" by Riot because he's clearly not one.
I love complex skill, it gives you more of an activity with your character, but man Riot releasing a champion with a classic skills and abilities that doesn't have an essay in it is so refreshing to see, it feels like something that we've never seen before even though we have it 15 years ago.

I was really hoping that we'd get a dragon.. adult? Idk after I heard he had stacks and would get a lil stronger as time goes on I REALLY hoped he would grow up the more the game went on. Like kayle passive of sorts but he actually got older at each point. Like 1-6 he is baby with what he has now. Then to level 13 he is an adolescent that is a lil bigger etc, with a few changes to something like his q and w... then adult at 16 you get the picture.

You're complaining that not all dragons can talk, but why would they? Most probably don't have the ability at all, and the few that could haven't been taught how to do it.
@leetri i didnt say all dragons should talk, my context, considering the subject I commented on, is only about the camavoran dragons, and more specifically Smolder's mother or other dragons with an alliance with humans, by logic Smolder's mother should able to speak but maybe the videos just do not show that, i dont care at this point about the dragon stuff, i didnt really think much about it as you can see by my short comment but dont compare chimpazees with the dragons we are talking about xD, yes sapience has to do with communication and no chimpazees are not universally categorised as sapient, of course feel free to disagree with the meaning of sapience, i admit its a word with a polarising meaning
it would be nice if they kept his princely concept art, it looks so much better and could be used for a skinline like halloween or maybe even dark star
the sound of smolder's recall was so cute, that i actually made a "AAWWN" out loud and my mother asked what happened so I showed her the clip and she also made the sound. I hope he has a lot more animalistic sounds like that, at least in his idle animations. Also good job Simba! hope your hard work was payed with a lot of belly rubs and treats!
His movements do look very royal, they managed to portray that attitude really well with his wings.

Necrit, you should 100% look at Vainglory’s characters. It’s an olde frame but it’s me of the games that got me into MOBAs and into league. They have a dragon there named Skaarf who is adorable and has a lot of personality with sounds he makes but doesn’t talk. The game isn’t live anymore he is it would be interesting to see some of the characters there because yes they have some generic themed characters, their gameplay is pretty unique compared to other Moba’s. One example would be Vox who much like Sivir’s W can bounce attacks to other enemies but Vox could be played as an AD or an AP. It was pretty cool seeing your sound based attacks kill enemies over simply attacking them. You could also scout with him as he could detect enemies hiding either in stealth or bushes with his resonance ability that gave a little visual q.

after the design changes I really started to like him i think only things that was off was his face and the ability to talk(for me) as a reptile enthusiast dragon designs are really important for me. Smolder's skull is built like an hatchling reptile's one(including dinosaurs and birds in here too) so thats cool but im not a fan of dragon facial muscles but every iteration of dragons seem to have them so i cant complain about it. Im not a fan of the talking as i said before but it has a lore reason so i accept it, maybe as he grows and his snout gets longer he will have diffuculties while talking human languages(coping). I wish we could see the mother because then i could analyze the model even further but it seems solid for a couple decades old hatchling especially for a "cute" champion. Plus them using lots of animal sounds to creat the moms sound is cool just like jurassic park and all the other documentaries.

2:05 I kind of like this version better but, in the skill preview he looked cool still. I think the color scheme could be better but, he'll have a bunch of cool looking skins later on, I'm sure.
Definitely still in the camp where I wish his snout was longer so he looked less like some strange humanoid cat, but considering how that would require redoing animations, that's completely out of the picture, so I'm glad they at least did texture work. As long as the shading is strong enough to separate facial features in the game then it should hopefully unflatten the face well enough.

I love complex skill, it gives you more of an activity with your character, but man Riot releasing a champion with a classic skills and abilities that doesn't have an essay in it is so refreshing to see, it feels like something that we've never seen before even though we have it 15 years ago.

I was really hoping that we'd get a dragon.. adult? Idk after I heard he had stacks and would get a lil stronger as time goes on I REALLY hoped he would grow up the more the game went on. Like kayle passive of sorts but he actually got older at each point. Like 1-6 he is baby with what he has now. Then to level 13 he is an adolescent that is a lil bigger etc, with a few changes to something like his q and w... then adult at 16 you get the picture.

Remember those years where Lane Swapping was meta and we would see games in pro play where one top laner would go against the adc and support? I miss those kinds of strategies
