Patented in 1868 by Colonel G.H. Money and Mr. M. Walker, this rifle was one of the 10 finalists in the British breechloading rifle trials of 1868. It is a simple falling block system with an internal hammer. In the second set of trials, it proved to be middle of the pack in rapidity of fire (20 shots in 1 minute and 14 seconds) but succumbed badly to exposure testing. The Martini would win those trials, and the Money-Walker system was only used in limited commercial rifle and shotgun manufacture.

Colonel G. Money, born 2 centuries too early to enjoy his guaranteed massively successful rap career.
I sympathize. I was 13 minutes too late to make the same joke.
@@IndianaJoe3 LOL for the last 30 minutes or so I have just been telling everyone that he was a rapper.
@@IndianaJoe3 hell some other guy said that the C9 was based off Colonel G Money's patient he called "problem solver". But what dude didn't realize is that "problem solver" was also G Money's most famous rap hit.
And we all know what exact genre of rap: czcams.com/video/6t28COxEp2k/video.html

@@roberttrester4030 I was gonna do it but I saw like 5 of your comments of you losing your shit saying hes a rapper lmao. Such good shit.
Colonel G Money would apparently later inspire the creation of the Hi-point firearms company
He then became a Rapper afterward. Mainly because of his name.
The C9 was based off of G Money's patented "Problem Solver"
@@TheStig505 LOL "problem solver" was also the name of his biggest rap hit!
Was the problem solver a revolver like Dr. Dre claims?
The G stands for Giz as in "I giz money"
Colonel G Money later attempted a career in the rap industry. Sadly he was 130 years ahead of his time and wasn't successful. The G-Unit recognizes his contribution and is named in his honor.
LOL I wrote damn near the exact same thing you did at literally the exact same time. Lol great minds think alike.
I'm G Money and I'm here to say / that lever actions are here to stay
man i hope some boomer stumbles onto one of these videos from a bing search and sees all these glorious shitposts in the comments 🤣
Therapist: "Black Hickok45 isn't real, he can't hurt you"
Black Hickok45:
So, at some point, the trials board said "Now for the Money shot". A moment that should have been recorded on a wax cylinder for posterity.
It always gets me: “Here’s a one-of-a-kind museum piece forgotten weapon that, if the stars had aligned only slightly differently, might have caused the Martini Henry to be a forgotten weapon. It’s 150 years old and probably as fragile as your great grandmother. Let’s take it apart!”
The only person that tells gun jesus he can't take a gun apart is gun jesus.
If it's as fragile as my great grandmother, it's indestructible. She was one TOUGH old bird.
Don't mess with elderly Scotswomen.
@@lairdcummings9092 remember my my nan fell 15 ft down a hill into a massive nettel patch, proper big ones as well, we found out 3 weeks later she was about 65 - 70 I was about 9. But she was from Dollar old shire blood and tough as old boots.
I mean, steel doesn't really rot on it's own when well-kept in a museum, so I doubt it'd be fragile lol
Victorian Britain: the only country so rich that they have a rifle with Money in it's name
And not just money, G.Money!
But there were also Poor-Ramblers.
Sorry that is Count de Money'
Colonel G-Money is credited for being the first to put sights on the side of the gun.
So much more accurate that way.
Soulja boy did it first
@@matthewwalker2598 Bye bye joke! Just like the bullet
Col. G Money. The most pimpin’ officer the the British army
"Don't hate the playa hate the arms game." -Col. G. Money
(Probably)
I’ve got a friend who goes by j money. I think he should’ve become an arms designer but he’s a tow truck driver 😂
There was actually a man blessed with a name like Col. G.H. Money. I can't help but feel completely and utterly betrayed by my parents.
If your name is actually Joshua Noble, your last name is pretty good too! Your either a noble or part of an elite Spartan group ;)
“Show Me The Money!”...which I’m sure was never said at the British Trials...
They probably said it once they were done testing the No 16 rifle.
And here I was thinking normally one guy is the engineer and the other guy is the money and figured Money was the engineer and Walker was the money but it was so much better than that
"If it's a miracle, Colour Sergeant, it's a short-chamber Money-Walker point 577 Snider miracle" doesn't have the same ring.
"Money Money Money, (A-ha!) it's so funny (A-hah!) In a Martini World!"
*Confused Victorian Trials officer* "By Jove, the Swedish entry in this contest is surprisingly good..."
Brilliant.
I love these obscure mid 19th century firearms. The transition from old muzzle loading muskets to modern weapons is interesting to watch.
You and I have a different definition of "Money Walker.
I may have initially read this as "British Monkey-Wanker Rifle"
Glad I'm not the only one.
Galils have a bottle opener, Money-Walkers have one of those.
Money-Walker, now that's quite the name
Yeah you gotta take your money out for a walk
Colonel money was the inspiration for the monopoly man, no I want to see a forgotten weapons monopoly, I'm broke as hell and I'd literally buy it
All the player pieces would be various French rifles, and instead of passing "Go" you'd pass "Allons-y".
would it be that hard to do with a redoing of the board as a jpeg or PDF to print at home then some clever 3D printing to give you the pieces? Get inventing Braydon Jones, if you can make it. I will buy it.
Chance: "Go directly to Compulsory Buyback. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 rounds."
when you realize you stayed up so late when you see a forgotten weapons upload in your notifications
I've always loved a single shot. I'd have to say my Uberti 1885 low wall in .22LR is my most fun gun to shoot. Super fancy custom built 10/22s and other semi autos are good but they lack the magic of a 30" octagonal barrel, a falling breach block & a colour case hardened receiver.
A good single shot makes for a long and therapeutic day on the range.
I want a biathlon rifle, but yes, slow fire is a great way to spend a long day at the range.
@@ScottKenny1978 I would get one then. Anschutz are basically king of the hill when it comes to biathlon rifles. Next time you're at a gun show or specialist shop try out one of their 9015 10m air rifles. It has probably one of the best triggers ever fitted to something that throws lead.
I'm trying to get myself a left handed Feinwerkbau 800 X but I've been waiting over 7 months because the EU are still crying over Brexit. They are trying to charge £900 for delivery because of "extra paperwork!" They've been making everything difficult and trying to steal our vaccines out of spite & jealousy.
My favorite rifle is my Remington 514, a single shot bolt action .22
The best thing about it was being a Christmas gun when I was 8 or 9 years old
Breakfast with Forgotten Weapons! Yumm
Bedtime with Forgotten Weapons! ZZzzz...
Lol either is good. LOL sometimes I forgot to look for a few hours and then have to have lunch with forgotten weapons!
It's 14:00 in the UK, so it's "relaxing after a morning at the shops with Forgotten Weapons'
I really want a rapper that raps about firearms but is also an upper class Victorian called Colonel Money now.
@@thecommissaruk it took me far too long to realise that was the fresh prince of bel air
Money talks but still ended up walking away feeling rather salty
What an amazing channel this is. My grandfather liked old school firearms; he had a few hanging on the walls in the dining room. I probably cant help getting into them also, having videos like these :)
Just went back and watched your Martini-Henry rifle review from 6 years ago, after watching this.
From the thumbnail alone I knew this was gonna be a good one
Lieutenant Colonel G.H Money second division in the second brigade. That's all I knew of him till now.
I love these old single shot prototypes
What a name. The man & the rifle.
This has to be one of the Most simplest and elegant firearm designs that I have seen in a good while. 🤠👌
I love the vast array of designs for single shot breech loaders.
Damn, that is a nice simple design
I love the simplicity of this rifle, i wish have one
Colonel G. Money.
This man would have nothing short of a cascade of jeers and jokes thrown upon him if he was alive in this day and age
Money-Walker is going to be my nom de guerre when I become a professional poker player in Las Vegas.
Love to hear Ian voice dreams and goals. I think a lot of us would love a catalog of trials rifles!
Waking up to a trap door rifle sure is nice
Better than being woken up by a trap door rifle.
A Colt 1903 pocket hammer was recently found in London, in the river.
G Money, a real gangsta name
The Hull Daily News 13 June 1868 had fun with the name Walker-Money (lots of new rifles walked off with public money… Snider was told to take a walk when he wanted money… HAW HAW). The London Evening Standard 28 May 1868 liked the Walker-Money because you could use it as a club if you had no ammo. George Henry Money got recommended as Lt.-Col. in the Militia because he volunteered to fight in the Crimean war as opposed to the normal route at the time - wealth and connections - Volunteer Service Gazette and Military Dispatch 2 March 1861. Poor old Mowbray Walker, an engineer and journalist, died aged only 47 on 16 June 1887 - Woolwich Gazette - 24 June 1887.
Thanks Ian
My first thought was Miss Moneypenny...
The rifle really is ingenious in its simplicity
From a 3/4 side view, it does look like a Martini-Henry shotgun. It would seem the essential concept was well understood, and it was waiting for the fulfilment of a method, of holding multiple cartridges, to become perfected. The British had stuck with the 'Brown Bess' for so long, this was a very long time coming. Even if not this, then another breech-loading long arm.
I'm always humbled by the creativity of the makers....thanks Ian for another educational experience!
real interesting system. thank you
At last it looks like it would reload quicker than the 1873 Trapdoor Springfield. I used to have one of those, fun but very slow loading.
As Always Good Stuff. Hard to come up with an intelligent comment. Thanks for my morning fix of history. 🍻From Gila County AZ
Simple, clean and ingenious. I want it.
Token comment for the algorithm for my homie Ian. You rule brother! Love the show man! :)
A beautiful rifle.
So that's how Col. G Money rolls down the block.
What a beautiful design. Regardless of its unsuitability for military use, it is certainly an elegant piece.
Really nice rifle!
Don't forget the rifle it beat at the trials, the Money-Talker
You'd better believe it
Very simple however an interesting peace of gunsmith. I guess it is a typical gun for the time with an interesting and unique feature
That is such a pretty gun.
Colonel G. Money, sophisticated yet slang
Damn that's a old rifle
Unusual rifle action
Always like to see videos about single shot cartridge rifles.
fun fact: Col. G Money was also one of the monikers Gaddafi adopted during his reign. Early 00s.
I look forward to learning more about these trials weapons. They tell a story about how our modern creations have come about.
Why they failed is perhaps as interesting as the winner weapon because that is where innovation comes from.
A winner is interesting but why the losers failed tells about how things got better.
I need to see Colonel Money's Soundcloud.
Col. G Money, name so rich even Rockerfeller is considered poor.
That rifle probably didn't get adopted because of how long it would take to produce a manual of arms, not to mention how difficult it would be to teach
Colonel G Money gangster since 1868
Nice Rifle.
I really like this. I own a Snider MKIII and believe the trigger on this one must be far better since it is not pinned in the stock as the Enfield and Snider is.
That trials rifle is money. Walker.
The french equivalent to Col. G.H. Money probably would be Count de Monet.
"It´s du Monee...."
We need two days of rain to test this, how are we going to do that? Oh wait we are in Britain 😅
I’m glad they include the firing pin piece because I’m sure the winning bidder will want to run a few hundred rounds through this nearly one of a kind rifle. Assuming he can find rounds for this in the first place...
The Stevens 311 double barrel shotgun is the universal sxs db in games so it would be cool for you to look at
I second this motion.
I have one i got for 50 bucks...thinkin about bubba'ing the think into a coach gun...really have no use for the 60 inch barrels on the thing lol
@james hayes thats would be good for bird hunting cause it would have muzzle great velocity
Never clicked so fast in my life
You should do a video on the Maxim Conversion of the Martini rifle. It was a long recoil action rifle, and it went through trials with the british army. Never made it to mass production though.
Of course one of their names was Colonel G Money
Col. G. Money Sir!
So someone asked during the trials what would later become that famous question: "Show me the Money!!"
I can just imagine tom cruise yelling show me the money!
I saw the video title and swear it read ‘Monkey-Walker.’
Early morning Ian is my favorite.
Thank you , Ian .
I believe something similar was trialed by the us in 72. Saw something that looked like this in the us ordnance trial report
Money Walker should be the name new Star Wars trilogy.
It looks awkward, but that may be from more than a century of having levers that open downward beneath the stock. A thumb ring at the end of the lever there would have been easier to operate, though that would probably whack the shooter in the face.
If it were designed to take a common modern cartridge, it would be all I need for middle to big game and home defense. Home defense? Who in their right mind would even consider invading a home being defended by an old man like me and a firearm like this? No one would.
Are you going to revisit the cursed AK that Brandon Herrera had fixed up?
On a different note, remember that god awful Krink you reviewed? Brandon FIXED it!
Love yer vids
6:02 *smashing fists on table* "MUD TEST! MUD TEST! MUD TEST! MUD TEST!"
I know it's spelt differently but the first person that came to my mind was William Munny - out of Missouri!
That looks like either a Short Land or India Pattern Brown Bess that's been converted. You can even see the groove where the ramrod goes.
Much later...probably an 1853 Enfield stock...
Looks good to me for it's time.
M. Walker and G. Money...sounds like some kind of rap duo.
I wonder if this chap was related to the Money-Coutts family (the various Barons Latymer) who were bankers in England (Coutts Bank, now owned by NatWest)?
The origin of the term: "Money shot".
Colonel g money just had to make sure he wasn’t the financial backing behind this rifle or it would’ve been even more meme worthy than it currently is
I'm sure this would be a nice action for recreational use
I would love to see that double-barrel shotgun variant!
I had a 1SG Money.
