So cool to see 王府井! I spent this winter in Beijing and Tianjin and it feels great to see those places I was at. The ad with the boat on the 3D display was already there back in December. Didn't see the Panda though.
And definitely eat some 老北京烤鸭, I highly recommend you go to one of the 四季民福 restaurants for that. Best Peking duck ever

I was in China for an official trip last September and I visited Beijing and 6 other provinces. I walked the same sideways and couldn't visit Tiananmen Square because the number of visitors there exceeded the daily intake. I had memorable time.

I was there in Beijing 2 weeks ago! I found this city very difficult to navigate (needing an ID just to buy a metro ticket or enter the tourist sites as you said) and so many police in Beijing!
It’s kinda annoying however coz you have to carry ID etc around with you, getting a subway ticket 🎫 or visiting public places, hut I’ll say it’s what makes 北京 an international city well organized and secure that every stranger get live enjoy and not worry about safety!

It's just because this was a 5-day public holiday for Labor Day(劳动节), so a lot of people from every parts of China went to visit Beijing. Outside of holidays Beijing truly doesn't feel overcrowded. Felt much more comfortable there than in the capital of my country, Paris
