  • Few jobs provide you with the opportunity to:
    1) fight fire with a team of trained and fit professionals
    2) hike in nearly every province in Canada
    3) bush-camp
    4) practice your bushcraft
    5) feel a true and objective sense of purpose and accomplishment (unless you're a cynical ****)
    6) get paid well for honest and satisfying work
    7) work with some of the most unique and incredible individuals you may ever come across
    8) spend time in the wilderness of northern Canada (and become acquainted with the local wildlife)
    9) spend so much time around helicopters that they quickly become boring, if not annoying...
    10) make spears out of burnt trees in your downtime and throw them at boxes and s**t.
This video is comprised of my own footage and is not produced, endorsed, or directly promoted by any professional or governmental organization. This video is meant to show the joys of bush camping and comradery in the off hours, and to show the grind of the job during the working hours.

Thanks, I appreciate it-however I enjoy it too much to feel right taking credit like that.
If you read the response I wrote to Tom’s comment on this video, it’ll make more sense why I say that.
      Cheers buddy 🍻

Nice! With the insane weather, insane topography, dry ass fuel, and the continuous urban interface of the USA, those guys are legitimately on a different level from us as far as I’m concerned. So thanks to him and the guys and gals getting after it down there and even out in British Columbia/Southern Alberta. It’s just a different beast altogether.
I’ll trek through swamp and muskeg until my feet are raw, but my stalky little legs ****ing hate hills, and they really hate mountains.
      Thanks, and cheers 🍻

Right?? Wish I could take credit for that one, but one of my long-time wildfire buddies/mentors put that together one evening.
That little bit of free time after supper in the evening can result in some wild camp-life creations.

The people you work with make all the difference, and wildfire attracts my preferred brand of weirdos to be around 👌

Do a video on boots! Cuz I know you guys are "Hard-On" them. Get it?!?!

Not a bad idea! I’m not boot nerd (if it doesn’t hurt my feet, I’m happy) but I can sure as shit tell you which boots I’ve destroyed faster than others, because you’re right… I’ve blown through 2-3 pair in a season before.

What is your wildland firefighting boot of choice?

    • @HardOnGearChannel
      @HardOnGearChannel  Před rokem +1

Ha… so, out east we’re weird and most of us wear big ass rubber Dunlop “moon boots” with Bama socks for doing mop-up and more relaxed stuff. Durable, tall and waterproof, and easy to air your feet out/swap Bama socks on breaks.
For doing initial attack though… where you’re likely going to get hover exited via helicopter nuts deep into the edge of a swamp… non-waterproof breathable leather or synthetic is the way to go. The best pair I’ve had was a pair of Royer’s but I still haven’t found something I’m committed to.
