Victor Wembanyama hasn’t been perfect so far during the regular season of the NBA but many people predicted he would be an All-Star as a rookie. The problem is many people don’t understand how hard the league has gotten even if you’re the “best prospect of all time.” - Sport
Leaving a comment here to mark Victor Wembanyama's First career High of 38 points beating KD and the Suns on the road.

Tf's the point of this comment?
Does anyone remember "The Admiral" David Robinson. He was kind of important to Tim Duncan's rookie development.
Exactly with David and someone with a High Bball IQ like Avery Johnson it's no wonder how Tim Duncan got so smart and by the book formal in a short amount of time. Wemby imo just needs to work on his muscles, free throws and passing.
he was certainly, but even David himself has remarked that Tim didn't need much instruction or help when he came into the league - he was already holding his own. And I don't care how much help you have around him, you still have to dominate on a nightly basis to make 1st team all nba.... as a ROOKIE. TD was also 21 his rookie year, whereas most rookies these days are 19.
guess what. D rob, duncan, manu are all there to be mentors for him. They're all heavily involved in the Spurs org. Wemby gonna be fine.
@@user-qc6gi6pl8e The guy was shooting 80% in France in FT, I think his body needs to adjust to the added strength he gains every year but I predict the he will have a very high FT% all his career after maybe one or two seasons of adaptation
@@astromigui Yes if he can get better at strength and conditioning and Free Throw form then he will be a beast.
The missing piece to the MVP convo is that before the '79 season, players voted for the MVP. After that, the media and journalists became the voters. So even though winning and stats mattered in the past, and all MVPs won before '79 are valid, it was lowkey a popularity contest amongst peers.
I didnt know players voted. They should bring that back, only they really know whos the best player.
@japiro14 fr tho, they know how hard it is to gaurd a player. If that is how it is, Giannis could've won last year as players voted him as the hardest to guard
@@japiro14fr, NBA Players are less biased than they seem to be most of the time
@@japiro14 they had the most uncalled for mvps ever. like they just went like "yeah i like that dude, dont care that some other guy drops 50 every game." look at the list of mvps and look who they won it over. almost every other year was a bad decision.
@@japiro14 i mean look at it this way: if your boss asks you to name the guy who should get an award, will you take your friend or someone that you dont like?
The truth is he's a rookie and the NBA is at the most talented point ever. He really doesn't have a chance at the all star game.
I really made people mad with this comment and honestly it's looking like I'll probably be wrong but we'll see what happens in the future
THANK YOU! Thanks to the new contracts players don't have to live in bench role for 7 straight years and actually move around.
if his team fed him the ball more and he got 30 mins a game i could see him making it
This is by far not the most talented era in the NBA lmao. You’re thinking of the 80s
@@Flixlim he definitely could but with the way the spurs are using him he probably won't be an all star
No this isn't, the NBA lost to the Europeans this year. This isn't the most talented era when you lose to Europe and your best 3 players might be from overseas. This is what a three point shot does it inflates how great these players are and why they're overrated and couldn't beat the Europeans and why the Joker makes them look foolish
Luka also deserved All-star his rookie year. He was mvp caliber by his 2nd.

Tre Jones does a good job but he needs more tick… he honestly looks like the only dude out there that wants to see Wemby do well.

Luka should have made the all star as a rookie. He was the second most voted guard in the west. Idk what happened there
Bruh we all know what happened. There's a reason he's had to disrespect the shit outta everyone in this country for them to reluctantly acknowledge his game.

yall crazy watching one game and expecting that on the next 50 something games hahaha
I hope the best for him but thats because hes new. Once teams start figuring out how to defend him the stats for him will drop.
@@Usernam3- he will only increase his stats. He’s still a kid. I bet he averages 23 ppg this year and that will be his lowest of his entire career.
:/ uh
I've been saying this for a year, he's more raw than people think. He's got all the potential, but he's got a ways to go.
Not only that when you put all that pressure on a rookie that's a massive reputation to live up to. LeBron was hyped up fsfs but social media didn't exist so it didn't come off as meatriding
He is raw . But man you know when he is out there . He is impactful. Can’t wait to see this dude at 25
@@mattr2626 Yea, big time. Fortunately, I think being in San Antonio shields him from that a little bit. Pop is not going to let him fall into the "lifestyle." He's in good hands, but needs time and patience for sure.
@@carlito_148 Oh yes, he's definitely had an impact already, not saying that! He's got to learn a ton and be consistent at it though.
Plus I heard him say he does not want to narrow his game. So he wants to improve on many aspects of the game at once, while probably working on his body, including injury prevention. That is a lot on his plate, which means he may take a lot of time to develop. But if everything goes according to plan, oh my, he is going to be a player with a varied and powerful arsenal.
Duncan was 21 when he was a rookie, two years older than Victor
Thats the point. 40 years ago every rookie was 2 or 3 years older so it makes sense they come to the league more polished.
Tim Duncan is the greatest PF of all time. He is massively underrated because he was neither glamorous nor a highlight reel player.
As for Wemby, he's going to be good, but not let's not sit here and kid ourselves. He's going to have his ups and downs the same as any player. More so, his 'downs' are going to be glaring when paired next to his dizzying heights. I'm talking heartbreaking losses.
Keep that in mind Spurs fans.
Maybe. KG was probably just as good if not better. But yeah, Duncan gets underappreciated because of his play style and personality.
Thanks alot. It is true that the level today is probably like never before, very homogeneous too at the very top. When you see Jokic, Doncic, Embiid, Curry, SGA, KD, Taytum, Booker,... and even the levels below. They've got huge talent but also years of relentless work. Victor just has so much to learn, and even more than most because he has chosen to be creative, and his frame is so unusual, that it gives advantages, but also drawbacks, and he does not really have a role model, someone who has explored his possibilities and weaknesses before. KD is still pretty different, shorter and with shorter wingspan - which has advantages but also greatly affect how one can tread through a maze of opponents and how quickly one can gather. Not to mention the shear mass of other players and the level of strength from training over years. If Victor were in a team that can make things relatively easy for him that'd be manageable, but in current Spurs he is the leader, also taking itw and most of the pressure, and that's hard, despite all his capacity to cope with it. So people assumed that going to the Spurs would be easier than to a bigger franchise now, but in some respect it's the opposite. He may be better at the Suns, Bucks, Timberwolves, or Denver - ok yes sometimes one feels these Nuggets could play with just 4 players so that's easy. And of course his opponents are pumped up against him because of all the hype. Add to that the fact that matches are every 2 or 3 days, with long trips, that makes resetting and deep work nearly impossible in-season. So all in all, i think this season will be tough on Victor, and if he does manage to come back to his previous long distance accuracy and paint dominance that will be very surprising.
This is literally his first big game. Against Paul george and Kawhi. And they were doubling him from the jump. I watched the whole game yes he looked lost at moments. Shit looked like how i play when im having a bad game and can’t understand why. He’ll be fine just needs to get more comfortable
He is a Rookie, it is his 1st year. and rookies are more prone to mistakes and basketball IQ issues. The guy needs more time to develop and become an all star.
Have some patience, he can become great or be a bust, it is too early.
But we were told he was the greatest prospect in NBA history. That's the problem. No one is saying he's not already showing flashes of greatness, but he spends too much time showing off his long jumper and not enough time in the post dominating shorter players. The guy should be a 55%-60% FG guy. At that height and hand to eye coordination he could absolutely dominate if he played down low. But every game I've seen him in he has fallen in love with the 3 and although he's good at it, so are about 50% of all NBA guards & forwards. He can do something only a few guys can do if he had the mindset.
@@SDesWriter there are people saying he already is a top 10 player. He is a great prospect but saying he already is a top 10 player is too much for now

I would like a part 2 for this vid on the all star part for wemby.
This is a great video, Wemby has the potential but give him some time to develop it… and also those Spurs player must give the ball to him more
I think what is being underrated is that he does not have a good point guard to set him in up the pick and roll nor elite shooters to give him space. If you plopped him on the Kings (having him replace Sabonis), he would dominate.
Nonsense. Very good players are even delivering in bad/average teams. So far he is rather disappointing considering the hype around him. Completely overrated. It`s obvious that he can become a decent player, but that needs time and he is far away from the point, where he can compete with the best in the NBA. Do people like you watch more than highlight-videos and actually look up stats?
@@antifaschi7869you sound like a Wemby hater.
@@antifaschi7869 the real question is do you actually watch the games, and not only look at stats? His defensive impact is extremely high, as is Chet’s. They’re both going to be good. Some of the hype is unrealistic for sure, but there’s a reason why actual NBA players, past and present, praise him and have/had high expectations for him. On the offensive side of his game there’s definitely work that needs to be done.
@@sosa7046 Did I write that Wemby has no potential to become a good player? No, not at all. ("it`s obvious that he can become a decent player, but that needs time"...this is what I wrote...so we kinda agree, dont we?) But right now he doesnt justify the huge hype as the greatest prospect ever and to imply that he is even already among the best and would dominate (offensively), if his team didnt hold him back, is just ridiculous imo.
No shit if you plop out any goodbig men into the kings most of them dominate imagine Embiid Jokic AD Giannis those are championship teams
Everybody hated on me when I said Chet will win ROY over Wemby and thought I was a hater. I wasn't saying that Chet will go on to have a better career, I just said that as of right now, he's two years older and has a more mature NBA ready game.
Spurs fan here and you are right. Chet more polished now. That 2 year age gap and a year of NBA coaching is showing. But damn Wemby on his 3rd or 4th year should be very very interesting.
Chet has an advantage being that he’s 2 years older and has had nba coaching. I don’t think it’s right that just because you get hurt and miss your real rookie season that tour still considered one the next. Whatever tho

Glad you noticed that they are not really maximizing wemby, he gets a lot of mismatches but doesn't get the ball that often
I propose the media votes are tallied, and the nba players vote and the top two of each group get a re-vote between the four (or maybe 6) options and then theres your mvp with nba influence
Wemby still has a lot to prove. Right now its all hype, gotta still show us he’s worth the #1 pick.
i feel like he can be a allstar just based off all the hype and the fans making up 90% of the votes.

for the moment it's just a 1st pick which confirms that he was in the right place in the draft...
and I didn't doubt it for a single second.
for the future, let's wait, so many things can happen.
I wish him the best.
Idk why people got hyped with Wemby when Porzingis tried to be next-level elite in NYK and failed because of the pace and 82 load. This modern era favors wing type players.
not to mention wemby with his physique is at a great risk of injuries and not to mention for him to be able to handle the 82 games he will need to play less than 25 minutes... i just don see him being able to handle this type of load...
Porzingis didn’t take care of his body like wemby does. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible for him to have any major injuries but there is a difference.
I don't see him being in the MVP contention just yet but I think he'll be in the DPOY conversation. Definitely all-NBA defensive team.
I hope they called that goaltend on 4:26 😂
8:30 the hell no had me dying 😂
I saw am hoops at the warriors game last night 😂
I think people just need to let this guy be a basketball player and grow. That’s the thing with this world now! Stupid narratives that got people to talk about it and debate about it when it’s just opinions after opinions after opinions. At the end of the day, who cares? Vic knows none of us and we should just let that man be great at ball🙏🏾
The only worry I have with Wemby is his health. But at the same time they don't use him as a traditional big man so physicality may not be an issue. Wembt should be an all-star this year and he's the best layer on his team. His numbers will be worthy of all-star status.
Why are we all ignoring that the tallest players have the shortest careers? Especially from former players?!
It's all about the hype haha our man was also exposed to getting in foul trouble. Can't reach all of these milestones getting fouled out 😅The dude definitely has potential but he has yet to prove himself and you got everyone hyping him up to these godly comparisons. Hope he doesn't crack under the pressure brought upon by the massive expectations.
I just want to tell you, I think you're doing some of the most substantial basketball journalism on CZcams, easily in the top 5. I can tell you have some background in the broadcast or print world. Nice work.
I know, let's just wait and see how this plays out. Not everything has to be clear after the first week of the season.

When your Mom takes you to Chuck-E-Cheese and gets you the plastic silver rings, that's not what they're referring to. But I think you're onto something. Saying Duncan was the last rookie that deserved to make the All-Star squad is a little harsh. Yao didn't deserve it, but Blake definitely did (unless you're dismissing him because he was a "red-shirt" rookie). You could definitely argue that LeBron and Luka did as well, even though they were snubbed.

Here in Philippines,in PBA history, there's only one rookie/MVP in the same year,
That's Benjie Paras.
There’s a ton of rookie all stars because guys used to stay in college for 3-4 years. Now they’re in the league at 18-19 years old

Some like you were wrong. The media is, in fact, always wrong with their predictions
You're saying this after three games? It's way too early to make a judgement on VW.
The key word is prospect, meaning "could be someday but not yet". He could eventually be one of the greatest but he is extremely far from it and will continue to be that way for at least a couple of years from now. The only award/honor he has a chance of winning this season is Rookie of the Year. That's it.
