I dated a Thai girl last year, a tarot reader come only fans scrounger.
She had a car loan , 6000 baht a month, refinanced her condo at fly bird in Pattaya on an only interest at 3000 thousand baht a month, maxed out credit card owing 3000 thousand baht a month, and a loan from a loan shark at 3000 baht a month , these debts will be never paid off, send me money every other sentence, well she blocked will have to pay them her self and she is fifty years old now but the mental age of a fifteen year old.
These debts can't be paid they are forever debts,
Interest only on the condo , flybird is disgusting you wouldn't let your dog stay there, so 3000 baht a month forever or till it's repossessed by the person who lent her the money, same with credit card and loan shark can never be paid off.
She's looking for a mug to help her to pay off her debts and if the mug does pay her debts then she will dump him.
That's a Thai woman for you.

    Great video Robb.
Unfortunately, no money ever spent on a Thai woman is an investment. It won't create or make anything. I call it discretionary spending. 555
The lies are cultural, and endemic, so part of the deal. Even the most humble, most honest woman will have a past, or side you never see. But it's ok, we get a great life here, one that is impossible in the west. Smile & enjoy everyday in LOS.
The good, the bad & the ugly :)

Yes...any money given, however large & however desperately needed is acknowledged at the time with a pretty little Wai & then immediately forgotten. If you ever refer to it in the future you will be met with hostility & denial. This doesn't just apply to farangs-they treat each other this way too so it's quite equal.

Yes. Seems to me- in my very limited year and a half here- they this is mostly a “what are you gonna do for me tomorrow“ culture.

I tend to believe in this, but I don't think it's any different to women in my home western country, that said there are always unicorns of women, they're the diamonds in the rough and few and far between.

@@keepitreal1547 I agree entirely. I suppose what I was trying to say was, the cost of a relationship is sort of the "cost of doing business?"

The us debt ceiling is a big issue rn. Going to be interesting how that gets worked out. My buddy says if the us gov defaults he will default on his loans too. Variable intrest rates have gone up quite a bit since the fed starting raising intrest rates.

  • @Aaron-ep9ne

Foreigners got it backwards there. Seems if you have a woman who likes you enough she will financially take care of you. Might be a good bar to see where you stand with your thai partner.

Even "legitimate" lending is insanely tilted against borrowers. They aren't simple interest loans. If the borrower wants to pay off the loan early they have to pay 50% of the lifetime interest due on the note. There is zero incentive to pay off a loan early.

  • @kevhall4802
    @kevhall4802 Před rokem +2

Did you say your gf vouched for a loan for a friend? Thats sounds like going guarantor, or being liable in the event the friend defaults. It common in Thailand that a friend does this for someone they trusted and ends up wearing the loan when they default.
Private money lending rates used to be as high as 5% per month but I am told that the govt clamped down on it and they can now only charge up to 2% per month with 1.5% being a common rate.
Mafia/loan shark rates however are very different and are usually tied to gambling debts and they can run at 20% to 30% PER DAY! The penalty for default is often serious injury or fatal (no kidding).
One example that I know directly was where a house was being offered at a fire sale price on the condition that the buyer could settle quickly. Market price for houses in that soi would have been 1.5million baht to 2.5million baht. It sold for 850thousand baht. Reason was the owners ( husband & wife) had gambling debts and were being threatened. Both had good jobs as well but obviously has some vices :) Anyway, the house sold and then the wife absconded, we guess with the balance of the sale proceeds after loan sharks were paid off. That whole 'running away' by either party is a common thing too.

5%to20% a month interest only is very common depending if collateralized or not. These people do not think about the future when borrowing money. Stay away from the poor Thais unless you want to be poor.
They always have some type of problem financially.

Have seen all of this first hand and the truly sad thing is when it's all legitimate seeing their faces when you explain compounding interest. It's very obvious that it is truly predatory lending and they don't have any idea what the total plus interest will be to pay back. To say nothing of the instant loan apps, think pay day loans in the US. Borrow $200 but owe $400 immediately with 10-20% compounding bi-weekly and penalties if you miss a payment. It's basically turning a person into a slave.

My girlfriend during her return to her home country sent a photo of her motorbike, passport ripped up and "her phone" smashed. She said that the loan shark threatened her & broke her phone & ripped up the passport and that she needed 15K urgently. I asked for another photo with her actual name on the ripped pages. Conveniently however that wasn't possible as the police had the evidence. I then seeked help at my hotel reception and the receptionist called the local police station & they said that nothing had been reported. I haven't sent any money yet. This is not her first phone story etc. Although I don't believe this story, I do believe that she is in a challenging situation where the father died, the eldest brother is a convicted drug dealer and that she has to do the heavy lifting in the family. I continue to help her out a little bit with some budgeted money, but worn out with the stories & the toxic family situation. I still would like to help her a little bit but it will be in my terms,
Any comments both positive & negative are much appreciated.

It sounds like you are being willingly scammed as you are aware of the lies and the family situation. 15k is a huge amount ( baht of dollars?) so thats also pretty insulting that she thinks that lowly of you to try to get that amount? So when you say on your terms, what exactly does that mean?
