Hearing My Husband Say I Love You for the First Time

- Hello CZcams world! I wanted to share with you the first time I actually heard my husband say "I love you". I found out I was hearing impaired when I was 21. As I got older my hearing slowly declined. I wore hearing aids but that only made the sounds that I could not really hear become louder. I still relied on reading lips. I was so excited to find out about Cochlear Implants. In this video, you will see my first activation day. It is very powerful and it was one of the happiest days of my life.
My daughter is 13 and this really gave me hope that someday my daughter will hear my voice as well. She's not deaf or anything, she's just 13.
Give it another 7 years at least.

There is a huge involuntary emotional response to hearing something for the first time that overwhelms people with deafness, this is so great to see and a reminder how much we take simple things for granted 👍

He really picked the perfect moment to say those words to her, you could tell he was smirking.
2K likes and no replies? well you've got one now
;)
A "smirk" would be a negative expression in my area. Why not "sweet" smile?
@@fireballxl-5748 I am unaware of any definition of "smirk" that necessarily has negative connotations. A smirk can sometimes be conceited, but it can also sometimes not be. What I was commenting on, if you don't mind my clarification, would have been missed had I said that he merely smiled sweetly. I was implying that her husband seemed to be taking the opportunity to jest like all great husbands do, and so it sounded to me like he was smirking in a cheeky way at her.
@@laeioun Don't put words in my mouth. I never said "conceited". That is a secondary definiton of smirk which has multiple meanings you have said.
You're not arguing facts, you're stating your feelings. Opinions should be based on facts, concrete facts. Opinions should not be based on how one feels because feelings change, facts do not. It was an extremely poor choice of word. But that matters not because your opinion cannot be changed because it's a feeling and no one can say you don't feel it. May not be correct or true but you still feel it so that's that.
A simple pleasure we all take for granted. Who can’t love this.
This is absolutely precious... got me crying

The way she flinched every time she sniffed was fascinating
I can’t imagine how that would sound as one of your first noises, especially since it’s coming from inside your own head
She was also flinching because when they first turn everything on and the brain starts to adjust, it is very loud.
You should check out the movie "Sound of Metal", gives a realistic idea of what this sharp feedback can be like.
@@shaunhayes3072 buzzkill!
@Paulie Walnuts It’s actually an important distinction because cochlear implants are best for people who lose their hearing later in life and aren’t born Deaf or Deaf from an early age.
If someone has already learned what sound is and what it sounds like, it’s easier for the brain to relearn as opposed to it learning from nothing.
it would also sound different, like, electronic/computerized. im imagining that, and I almost wanna flinch 🙃 probably like nails on a chalkboard lol

She's also a lip reader. I imagined that after she repeated his words...it hit her right then what she had just heard. Then she is overwhelmed with emotion. I see it. It was just delayed. It's like someone who speaks two languages. She speaks three probably. Hearing, sign and lip reading.

If anyone is wondering, the reason why she's flinching that way is because hearing for the first time is painful. You feel the muscles, bones, and the eardrum moving for the first time in ages. You can feel your entire internal ear moving, like the gross sound train wheels make while first moving. I know this because I'm profound deaf in my left ear, and hearing out of it after a long time of not hearing anything at all hurts.
You can hear yourself hearing? It's amazing just how much our brains just block out.
Wasn't hearing for the first time
Wow! That's what I feel as a person with hyperacusis and misophonia everyday. For me it doesn't go away
Maxis, my dad doesn't like to wear his hearing aids if he doesn't have to because his bad ear (from being in the US Navy and next to the HUGE ship guns went they went off) is always sensitive to the noises and frequencies the device imposes on his ear.
May i know how is she able to speak and understand words she never heard prior to this? I mean isn't she deaf ?
I remember what it was like the first time I used my hearing aids to compensate for the hearing loss I suffered in the service. It took a while to get used to hearing sounds I had not been hearing for years. Even now, years later, I flinch when something loud enters my hearing aids. So I completely understand her reactions to hearing sound for the first time. And her audiologist is fantastic!
Her hearing the small sounds within the room and realizing she's hearing them before anyone speaks is wonderful. Science is amazing. Thank you, scientists!!!!
Thank you, God, for Science!
@@Lost_n_Found_1 can't we have nice things in peace, please? 🙄

@@Lost_n_Found_1 I'm sure to some people it is easier to deflect an argument rather than actually give it some thought :(
@@Verllac You sell me short, friend. I give everything thought. Indeed, the irony of your first comment was very choice. I doubt you understood it in all it's meaning, and can only imagine you assumed it was a slight against you. It was not. Merely an observation. So please enlighten me. What, praytell, was this argument to be made?
I quite literally had expressed my appreciation for nice things, but because you don't agree with how I do it, or who I thank for them, you felt the need to chime in and rhetorically ask for the ability to do the exact same thing? Is that right? We all caught up now?
@1:52 Gets me every time. How her mom says, "you said you weren't going to cry, you're funny". And how her daughter looks around and then asks, "who's talking"? Omg, that melted my heart. So I am assuming that she's never heard her mom's voice or haven't for years and forgot how she sounded. Wow :)
I think the voices are distorted like the doctor explained to her that's why she didn't know.
ikr hehe
She lost her hearing @ 21 so her mums voice has probably change since
Also, if she only has hearing in the one ear, then she is hearing in “ mono” and not “ stereo”. So there isn’t any directionality of the sound. She doesn’t know the source, so she searches the room for the culprit 😀
😭😢💔

How could 1.2k people dislike her hearing for the first time since she was 21 ... that's crazy
You know, the internet is for all sorts of people. Stupid people and smart people all around.
Bots
i found out i've put dislikes on videos i didn't really put dislikes on its bot on youtube or from them to not pay much money i guess or just bad bugs on their behalf
its a mix of youtube evening out rating for some reason and some people dislike not because they dont dislike the video but so similar videos dont show up in their recommended if they like to watch other stuff
It's because this sort of procedure only works for a small minority of deaf people. There are many of these "hearing for the first time" videos and they all seem to go viral. Some people don't like them because the proliferation of them can make the people who it will not work on feel inadequate. I don't subscribe to this way of thinking, to me it's just a positive video, but I understand their argument as well.

How do you marry someone that never said that they loved you? The question was to make you think when we say something we are saying something. When we don't say something we are saying something. How did she know how to say that if she was deaf?
@@95netta in the description it says she started going deaf around the age of 21 and it slowly progressed. Being born able to hear allowed her normal speaking abilities and she most likely still spoke a bit throughout the years.
@@95netta Deaf doesn't mean ignorant. She's obviously speaks some English, not just SIgn-as she speaks English in the video. So, she knows what I love you means. It is very very likely she can read English as well. We can know this all from the video w/o even reading under it that she went deaf at 21.
@@Laura-kl7vi If she was deaf from birth she would have no idea how language sounds like. She could read and write in English, but everything would sound like gibberish. Even phonetic spelling would not help, because it relies of a person associating sounds to symbols. That was so moving. Thank you for sharing this part of your life.
The way she speaks is so stimulating and intriguing. She hasn't adapted to controlling the volume of her voice yet, it seems, so one word might be spoken normally and the next quietly whispered again. Without trying to read too much into this, it's at least interesting to think about what the differences in her volume tell us about language itself.
Huh. Never thought about this. Thanks! It's like one of those times when I wear a noise canceling headphones, and I can't seem to control my voice because I can't hear myself..
Theres some websites where you can have headphones play back your voice as youre speaking, but on a slight delay. For many people, it causes a severe stutter. Our brains kinda quality control the noises we produce, which is part of why profoundly deaf people tend to have speech changes as well.
If you read the description she said she found out she was hearing impaired at 21. Someone that is born completely deaf or was deaf from a young age, sounds entirely different.
Happens when you get hearing aids too, you talk too low thinking you’re talking loud, takes a while to find the right volume and then you forget they’re there.
