hello potters, how are you today?
today we're going to be taking another step and learning how to make our base shapes a little bit different in the intermediate playlist. once again we're playing with bowls and learning how to alter them just a tiny bit period later on this month you will probably also be getting a video with me going a little more in depth on this topic but I won't be talking through the video. hopefully you all enjoy the video, I'm starting to add a little bit more sound effects while I'm editing and I hope that you like them.
    * p.s yes you can do the same technique with an actual blade or knife although I find that the wire tool and the potato peeler are a little safer ( because I can already see that guy in the comments below)

Real talk. Thank you for giving constructive criticism in a polite way. Most don't have this skill.

Dante, I do like idea of potato peeler to facet a pot, just don’t agree on rim. You’re videos are quite informative and enjoyable. I always watch. Keep up the great work.
(You even make me laugh out loud with some of your commentary. Hilarious!)

Yes, I buy a lot of my pottery tools from the kitchen section, some even from the dollar store, cheap tools to damage in clay, YAY! Keep up the great content!

Nice one Dante! but how do you manage to pot with all those cuts on your hands? Do you box when not making pots???

    • @EarthNationCeramics
      @EarthNationCeramics  Před 3 lety +1

I box and I also have a 9:00 to 5:00 regular job as a chef.
because of these two things I have a lot of cuts and bruises on me. I just kind of deal with it, the clay doesn't hurt.

Sometimes the smallest mark on a pot can make all the difference. I’m going to try this. Thanks Donte.

That is good idea....I usually take tools not for ceramic and use it for clay ....that’s a part of creativity and it’s really right way of making something unique *)

Thank you ! I am learning a lot. I like the sound effects. May I suggest that you turn it all the way off or really low while you speak. The cadence differences detract from your personal rhythm which quite nice and soothing & fun too.
I subscribed and am looking forward to learning more.

Can you also do carving with the peeler?

I learned from an old potter that potters have been stealing kitchen tools for use as pottery told for _years._ That, "pear"-trimming-tool that we all use? It was originally for coring pears
(According to the aforementioned old potter).

      It's technically true.
Much in the way that old martial artist used farm tools and repurpose them many of our tools today are just old school kitchen tools

Love your videos, thank you! But this one did make me giggle - doesn’t it just make the pot look wobbly and badly made 🤣?

After a while in the part of your world you stop appreciating perfectly symmetrical things and you start experimenting with ways to express yourself other than straight and perfect.

@@EarthNationCeramics oh yes, I couldn’t agree more - I am a huge fan of organic and asymmetric anywhere - from clothes to architecture and of course in ceramics! It just that this particular technique doesn’t really give you that imho :) I think it simply doesn’t take it far enough to qualify, it sits somewhere in between and therefore just looks like a mistake rather than a deliberate creative choice. Sorry! :) I do love your channel and your video, thank you for all the wonderful tutorials!

Hey Dante, be more careful with your hands. They always have nicks and cuts and scrapes. you need your hands to make your lovely pots and you know... i guess also your other job too.
