Thanks for the video like always :) , just one question for the grey wolf legend, i know a lage on facebook that speaks about turkic history, it is run by a turkmen guy and he posts in both turkish and arabic, and he said that the legend of the grey wolf goes on like this: that the turks were initially a bunch of disunited tribes and were at some occasion on the verge of extinction at the hands of the chinese( in some other sources other nomadic tribes) so they escaped to a mounatnious region but their enemies blocked their exitz so they had to remain there for a few years were they united and began developping a sens of unity and one day one of their men followed a grey wolf during his hunt until he managed to find another exit and thus the legend of the grey wolf and the bearth of the göktürks. So do you know anything about it ? The page's name is Turkmenistan but it would be easier to write the name in arabic تركمانستان you will find that way easier. Thanks again in advance.

Is this chinese sponsored?? Due it is really hard to understand why they used only chinese sources while there are written Turkic sources about Göktürks like Orkhon Inscriptions!! And many more oral Turkic sagas about Göktürks and the origin of Turks like Oghuz Khagan saga which is proven that it is legit:
''In scientific literature, the name of Maodun is usually associated with Oguz Kagan, an epic ancestor of the Turkic people. The reason for that is a striking similarity of the Oguz-Kagan biography in the Turko-Persian manuscripts (Rashid al-Din, Hondemir, Abulgazi) with the Maodun biography in the Chinese sources (feud between the father and son and murder of the former, the direction and sequence of conquests, etc.), which was first noticed by N.Ya. Bichurin''
In Oghuz Khagan saga Maodun is indeed described as a supernatural person who had a bull's foots, a wolf's back, a sable's shoulders and a bear's chest that he started to ride when he was 40 days old but as everybody can easily understand this is just symbolic and showing that Maodun was Tengri's chosen one with holy strength!! But i guess chinese historians who had no idea about Tengrism and high from opium thought that his father impregnated a wolf, LMAO!! Seriously only using chinese sources is a crime against humanity as there are so many nonsenses in them...

It's possible some remnants of Rouran did indeed reach the Balkans and became the core of the ruling class of the Avar state. Or that they pushed other nomadic tribes westwards ahead of them and those tribes became the Avar ruling class. Or a mixture of both. Nomadic states were never in any sense ethnically "pure." A tribe would rise to prominence, conquer other tribes and incorporate the conquered tribes into itself or become the leading tribe in a new confederation that had a new name. It's probable that most of the tribes/people under Rouran rule remained in Place under Göktürk rule. I quite like the Orkhon Inscription(which you mention in passing in the vid) that goes into how the Turks faired in dealings with the chinese after Taizong flexed on them(since they still stuck around as vassals to the Tang for a while). There are a lot of cool inscriptions on the Orkhon valley monument in general though I think this one just sounds cool and has some interesting subject matter and ideas on it.
"Because of want of harmony between the begs and the people, and because of the Chinese people's cunning and craft and its intrigues, and because the younger and the elder brothers chose to take counsel against one another and bring discord between begs and people, they brought the old realm of the Turkic people to dissolution, and brought destruction on its lawful kagans. The sons of the nobles became the bondsmen of the Chinese people, their unsullied daughters became its slaves. The Turkic begs gave up their Turkic names, and bearing the Chinese names of Chinese begs they obeyed the Chinese Emperor, and served him during fifty years. For him they waged war in the East towards the sun's rising, as far as Bokli kagan, in the West they made expeditions as far as Taimirkapig; for the Chinese Emperor they conquered kingdoms and power. The whole of the common Turkic people said thus: 'I have been a nation that had its own kingdom; where is now my kingdom? For whom do I win the kingdoms? said they. I have been a people that had its own kagan; where is my kagan? Which kagan is it I serve?'
Hope you do the Uyghur Khaganate eventually too, or at least make a vid talking about all the various Central/East Asian steppe tribes instead of going all in on the western steppes.

While Turks portray Tang Chinese as cunning, there are Chinese people that say Tang dynasty ruling family was not Han but Mongolic/Turkic.
Tang Taizong's grandmother was Mongolic (Xianbei) and his mother was from a mixed Xianbei-Han family/clan as well. Those were official Tang records. The Tang official records say his paternal lineage is Han, but according to local records from where he came from, the family/clan of his surname was mixed. Some modern people speculate that he is actually Mongolic/Turkic, and he simply pretend to be Han to make ruling/conquering rest of China easier. He forced his father to step down so he could become emperor, which is not very Confucian. He is also a blood brother with a Turk from the Ashina tribe. His mausoleum also has numerous depictions of horses, which was atypical for people identifying as Han Chinese, as horse riding has historically been considered barbaric by Han Chinese.
