I recently bought one of these Chiappa M1-9's because I didn't feel like spending a ton of money on an Auto-Ordnance M1 Carbine. Regardless of all the negativity I've heard about it from folks I know and other CZcamsrs, I still decided to purchase one because I just liked the looks of it and the fact it fired the more common 9mm ammo. When I decided to do some target practice after receiving it the slide had a tendency to try and double feed two rounds into the chamber at once with one of the 10 round magazines that came with it. Fortunately I had a spare surplus military Beretta magazine I'd bought online a while back for my M9 handgun and tried that instead. The Chiappa fed perfectly with that magazine and I didn't have any trouble afterward. It was well worth the money.
My theory is that the new mags have stiffer springs. That pushes up the next round in the stack too aggressively, dragging along the forward moving bolt, and thus, slows the inertia of the already blowback challenged heavy bolt. You end up with failure to close the breech, failure to fully grab the spent case rim to eject, and double feeds when that spent one stays in the chamber. A lighter, or more used mag spring might be the simple solution to all these many comments on this otherwise very nifty little piece.
Sir I real like the style of the videos you make, always informative and just a pleasure to watch. Every once and a while you find someone you could listen to all day and not get bored hearing them talk, you're one of those people to me. Thank you for the time you put into these videos. Have a great day and i look forward to the next one.
Thanks for your videos. Always enjoyable, no hype and you don’t try to sell anything. I’ve been eyeing this Chiapa Carbine for some time. I have decided to get my mom and pop gun shop to order me one. Thank you.
It always seems like military surplus ammo dries up over time. That's why I reload, and that's why I really like the basic rounds that will most likely be around for a long time to come. Like the 9mm, 223, 45 acp, etc... Very common. That's why I really like the idea of a 9mm m1 Carbine.... Very awesome idea, and very good review sir. Thanks
Your 9mm Chiappa M-1 Carbine looks great. I owned a M-1 Carbine back in the 70's. You know how the M-1 Carbine was made by several manufacturers. Mine was made by Crossman.
A 30 caliber m1 is what my grandpa had in the Korean war, though he never saw battle. He still took it to the range every chance he could and i bet he would get a kick out of seeing one of these

My M1-9mm works great, i feed it reloaded 124 grain ammo, both FMJ and HP's. No issues whatsoever.. It tears through 6 inches of Alder tree at 15 feet with FMJ rounds! Having a 10 round mag in a carbine is great, as Canadian law only allows 5 rounds in center fire semi auto with a barrel length of 18.5 inches. A range session is on the "to do" list as soon as everything thaws out around here. Since there seems to be some interest, a video about the M1 will also be coming up pretty soon.
It would be great to see a side by side comparison of these two rifles!! I've heard some bad things about the m1-9, hopefully this is a good rifle. I wouldn't mind adding one to my collection.
From what I understand, some of the earlier models had some issues. This later model seems to run just fine as long as you stick with Beretta magazines and decent ammo.
I found that relieving any points where the action rubs the stock and handguard pretty much corrects that issue. All you need is a little sandpaper and a sanding block.
Thanks for the review. Have the 30 Inland and love the size and smooth shot. Been looking for the 9mm for a while. Kind of difficult to find. Have had a few shops tell me they dont exist.
Howdy my friend, I'm a hard core Carbine finatic! It started with my Marlin Camp 9, then I graduated to my M1-30 Carbine, and I'd absolutely love to get a hold of one of those Chiappa's, that's one sweet lil' shooter! Great video my friend, well spoken and thought out! 👍👍 Any idea what these ( rough guesstimate ) run, price wise these days?? Thanks bud, I'm subbed and look forward to more videos from you!!😀
Absolutely love the reviews sir. Great channel and content. Was thinking about buying a Chiappa m1 9 just for fun. Your review says yes. I like it. Especially the info about the Beretta mags Did you ever do the side by side comparison with these 2 carbines?
After watching how the Chiappa works I wouldn't own one. I thought they replicated the action of the original, its actually a slightly more complicated version of the simple blow back design. All that weight on the op rod makes it more unreliable. There is a reason the Hi Point is as crude as a hammer but as reliable.
This is one of the view positive reviews Ive seen about this gun. However he does mention it liked heavier rounds till he br oke it in. The other reviews/tests I watched tended to jam up at first. But now I am questioning wether they had worked it through its paces fully yet. Depending on your gun and manufacturer the ammount they recommend to wear it in varies. After watching this Im interested in it again.
Is there a compilation video or website dedicated to pointing out great reproduction values like this? As someone starting my collection this appeals to me as my first pistol caliber carbine. Its a decent price as well.
Very nice 👍. What velocity do you get from 9mm from the rifle? Looks like a fun rifle is it also accurate? Nice thing is 9 mm very cheap. I think this will be great in a 45 ACP too. Thanks for sharing 👍
How reliable is the M1-9? I bought myself a Beretta and would love a modernized WW2 gun that makes my magazines like this, if it's reliable as it's .30 counterpart that is... Also looking at the Beretta CX4 storm, but honestly it looks too much like a star wars blaster while the Beretta still has its 1950s curves to it.
Great video! Just started shootin about 2and a half months ago. I'm at the point where I'm concidering to buy a rifle for competition. These are very cheap for some reason as well as the ammo.
I am all for the .30 cal carbine review. I shot a CMP that my buddy got and was disabused of my bias against it. That walnut stock looks great compared to the blonde wood.
I'm actually not sure either is walnut. A lot of times it's just stain. The "walnut" 9mm looks kind of like beech, and the .30 looks like birch. Hard to tell conclusively, but the gun industry is infamous for saying "walnut," when they mean "walnut finish." Big lobby. They get away with it in a way the lumber industry can't. Like I have a savage MKII that I know is birch after taking it apart, but they call it walnut. It doesn't really matter--lots of hardwoods are suitable for the job. They both look great, and I actually might like the blonde better--except my dirty hands would foul it up in a hurry! Love this guy's vids.
Seriously like to know what state you're in and what you paid for the Chiappa 9 mm and how many Clips came with it I am searching for something other that AR Platform 9 mm carbine to match my 9 millimeter pistol
I split my time between Northern Nevada and Southern Arizona - Seems like I paid around $450.00 for the Chiappa M1-9 carbine - It came with two 10 round magazines.
@@Icarryone The Hipoint is also available in 40 cal. I have owned 2 995s, never should have sold the first one, 20 years ago they worked great, the latest one works great two. Neither has ever had a fail to feed, fail to fire or fail to eject. They just work.
Hey. Its been a while. You are one of the few " youtubers" whose honest opinion i hold in high regard. Youve always givin valid criticism where its been due, and never givin over emphasized praises just because the gun preformed as advertised. Im thinking about taking on a project and id like your input. I have a berreta 96 that ive converted to 357 sig.( because reasons) and would like to have a carbine that takes tge same mags.now i know i could build an ar and get magwell adapters and all that, but do you think that if i were to have the chamber of one of the chiappa 9mm m1s reammed for 357 sig, and replaced the reciol springs with sonething a bit " beefier", and possibly increase the weight on the op rod block it would function? The blowback action is what makes me want to try, that and the built in magazine compatability. I was thinking about doing just a regular m1, or one in 357 magnum, but then id have to worry about gas issues, and then trying to get the mags to work. Outside of if the barrel can take the pressure increase, and with 357 sigs bottleneck helping feeding issues i dont really see how it wouldnt work. I might need an extractor that will grab the brass better but thats not really a big deal, most 40 cal guns use a 9mm bolt face and most use the sane extractor. Thanks again for all you do. keep the videos coming you do a great job.
It would likely be more trouble than it was worth, unless you consider it to be some kind of pet project. You know, the sort of project where time and money wasn't going to be a factor. Due to this rifle's action design, I would personally consider a different platform.
@@Icarryone thanks for getting back. Yes it is one of "those" projects that is more about the process than the end result. I know its a silly errand and ultimately not worth the effort, but I want to do it. Same as the berreta pistol, i just WANT. A rifle in 357 sig, and i dont want another pistol caliber kit for an ar. I just wonder if theres enough material to open up the chamber a mm and it still take the preasure.
I know that feeling. As far as the end result, you'll never know until you try. Not much more I can add to that, other than . . . let me know if it works out.
a friend of mine wants to buy one of those rifles, I told them I heard bad things about the reliability. He plans to run the Beretta magazines exclusively, is this a rifle worth purchasing?
The only problem I found with this rifle is that clearances between the wooden receiver cover and the action were too tight. This condition acted like a set of brakes and didn't allow the action to cycle correctly. A little sanding was all that was required to correct the problem. It's ran reliably since.
@@Icarryone thanks for answering. I've been torn between one of these and an auto ordnance 30 carbine model. I like both but 9x19 is just so much cheaper now.
@@sentero1856 There's no comparison between the Auto Ordnance 30 and this thing. The auto ordinance replicates the original M1 Carbine but with supposedly more precision, the Chiappa looks like the M1 carbine but uses a simple blowback design with a large weight on the op rod. The awkward arrangement of the heavy op rod slamming back and forth makes it less reliable than the original and certainly less reliable than many simpler blowback weapons like the simple Hi Point 995.
The so-called jamming issues in these rifles stem from the upper handguard rubbing against the bolt carrier - acting like a brake as the bolt cycles. Five minutes and some sandpaper corrects this. Otherwise, this carbine shoots just fine.
This would be cool in 10mm or 357 mag. just saying. 9mm to me is ok, if it's what you got, it's better than NOT. But to me, I've always liked something with a bit more punch.
Lots of really nice 10mm and .45acp carbines on the market right now - but a 9mm carbine does have considerably more punch than a .22lr when it comes to taking down coyote sized game.
Speaking of looking and feeling right, it would look much more authentic if they had gone with a magazine that actually matched the original M1 look rather than using the Beretta version.
Great video , I've heard that the Chiappa M1-9 has a break in period of 200 or so rounds and has had feed issues in earlier production guns . I would greatly admire a review of your wife's rifle ,lol , just saying !
It amazes me the carbines in various calibers made in the style and size of the original .30. It is truly a perfect size and configuration for dang near anyone. A 6'8" man can handle it like a toy and his 5' 1" wife can shoulder it too and be effective. Made in everything from BB gun to .357 as far as I know, it has to be the most widely copied in varied caliber platform in existence. And the prettiest. Posting a response as the Wuhan Virus grips our country and my 5'1" 95# wife will be wielding a Rockola just because she's good with it and she loves the look and feel and we got tons of carbine food. Wish you all the best, stay home, be smart.
Hey just to let you know my wife claimed my M1 carbine 2 and I also lost a steak dinner to her after she fired it 15 rounds in the black 50 yards I ain't going to do that again
You say that this stock is actually walnut,...is this a fact ? It does look like a beech wood stock with a walnut stained finish to me, but,...I could be wrong too.
This is the only gun I ever owned that would fall apart in your hands. Absolute junk, plastic forend band would come loose then the wood and receiver would all fall apart. Also the trigger pull was an honest 15lbs of the worst grit imaginable. The sight would also fall out of place after 6 or 7 shots. Just a fyi for anyone looking at buying this gun
Jayden Dyck mine did have the loosening fore end problem at first it turned out that band was polished smooth so it wasnt gripping literally 5 seconds with a file and never a problem again. Mine also takes the cheap barnaul 115 grn steel case fmj and blazer brass no problems from the gun ammo or 3 pro mags lol I think i got a good one
I bought one about a month ago. I tried all sorts of ammo, but it just wouldn't feed right. Very frustrating !! then the rear site fell off !! what a crapy design. The site fits loose in the dove tail "poor machining " and only a tiny set screw to hold it in place. JUNK

I think I remember Ivr Johnson or Plainfield made a small run of M1 Carbines in 9mm using Hi Power mags back in the 70's or 80's
Yes, some years ago, Iver Johnson produced a number of M1 carbines & M1 Enforcer pistols. Both used standard military surplus magazines.
I purchased mine about 2 years ago , I've had no issues with it, just use the Beretta mags and quality high grain ammo.

This one isn't fond of hollow points.

Yes, the rifle is worth buying. I've had no trouble with it as long as I use Beretta magazines - and avoided using cheap steel cased ammo.
Icarryone thank you for your Fast Response sir, I will pass on this information to my friend Clint.
Idk if you check your old vids, but has this remained reliable? I want one but am hearing some major issues.
I am thinking of getting one for my daughter but I have heard of frequent jamming issues, have you had the same issues?
The so-called jamming issues in these rifles stem from the upper handguard rubbing against the bolt carrier - acting like a brake as the bolt cycles. Five minutes and some sandpaper corrects this. Otherwise, this carbine shoots just fine.
Thanks.
Gosh you sound like R. Lee Ermy.
I've heard that a number of times - I'll take it as a complement. 👍
I would like to buy this gun M1 30 Caribbean .is for sale??
Is not.
Speaking of looking and feeling right, it would look much more authentic if they had gone with a magazine that actually matched the original M1 look rather than using the Beretta version.
Perhaps.
@@Icarryone Definitely.
How can we get M1-9at Thailand. .
No clue!
Great video , I've heard that the Chiappa M1-9 has a break in period of 200 or so rounds and has had feed issues in earlier production guns . I would greatly admire a review of your wife's rifle ,lol , just saying !
It would be my luck if she decided to claim both of them.
Be amazing if you could get it in 7.62x25
👍
What about all the bad reviews for this gun?
the 30 Carbine in this video is an Inland or Auto Ordnance reproduction?
This is neither. It only looks and feels like a .30 Carbine - it also does not share the originals operating system.
@@Icarryone yes i know is a totally different system, i'm talking about the real M1 30 cal. in the video
@@adampower1990 The real one is made by Auto Ordnance.
@@Icarryone beautiful gun, very well made, different quality at different cost
are the sights dovetail??
Rear sight, yes.
How much this gun?
Somewhere around $500.00.
Yes, it's a whole lot of staying away from the general public right now - staying home & being smart. Thanks Paul.
Hey just to let you know my wife claimed my M1 carbine 2 and I also lost a steak dinner to her after she fired it 15 rounds in the black 50 yards I ain't going to do that again
Don't blame you!
You say that this stock is actually walnut,...is this a fact ? It does look like a beech wood stock with a walnut stained finish to me, but,...I could be wrong too.
You're right about being wrong. It's walnut.
Hahaha,...Good answer! Thanks.
Your wife wears the pants in your household
Occasionally perhaps - but I'm the one who decides which ones.
Never had any significant problems with this one. Especially not the ones you described.
Icarryone glad you got a good one, I bought mine when they first came out mabey they have improved
DAM,, YOU SOUND LIKE SARGENT HARTMAN,, SR.DRILL INSTRUCTOR ON FULL METAL JACKET ,, KOOL,,
Hup!
I would prefer it to use Glock magazines.
Alas, it just doesn't.
The ruger pc 9 carbine takes glock mags FYI
Oi
Olá 😊
I bought one about a month ago. I tried all sorts of ammo, but it just wouldn't feed right. Very frustrating !! then the rear site fell off !! what a crapy design. The site fits loose in the dove tail "poor machining " and only a tiny set screw to hold it in place. JUNK
