I read a lot of reviews on this carbine, many were 5,6,7 years old and there seemed to be a lot of issues. Some of the more recent reviews 3,2 years ago showed less problems. I decided to buy one about a year ago. It has been my experiance so far that this is a great little shooter. I had zero break in period on mine. It ran without a FTF right out of the box, probably just dumb luck. The sights, with a bit of adjustment, are dead on at 50 yards. I put a sling on it, a stock ammo pouch, replaced the plastic bayonet lug with a metal one and added a US surplus bayonet to it...look friggin cool. As for the issue with the last round bolt open, that was a really easy fix. I simply bought Beretta FS2 magazines with the high profile follower that holds the bolt open after the last shot. I love shooting this gun and the best part is that it eat any ammo that I feed it, cheep, expensive, ball, HP and even Tulammo steel...zero issues.

I have had mine for a few years now. Zero issues. Functioned perfect out of the box. Reliable and accurate AND mine DOES have a manual bolt hold open catch. My son has one as well and his does not have the catch. Both of ours have been awesome guns and they both love my cast bullet reloads. 124 grain alox lubed round nose with 6 grains of HS-6 powder. Most accurate ammunition I have fired ao far actually. Love your review by the way. No time wasted. Precise and to the point. Well done.

Brief and to the point. Thank you. There's too much complaining about the rough start on this rifle, IMO. Keep shooting, or break it down and start polishing. I handled one in my local gun shop today, but wanted to read and view some reviews before buying it. I can't imagine getting the synthetic stock version instead of the walnut stock. Nothing against plastic - I love my Beretta CX4 carbine, which can share magazines with this one. I'm a little disappointed at the amount of malfunctions everyone seems to report, but I'm not taking the thing into combat or relying on it for home defense, so I think I can compromise on the reliability for a range plinker, and for the price.

I wrote a Canadian centric review that you can find on the /r/canadaguns subreddit. look up M1-9 the Poor mans PCC.
2 issues that should be considered/known before you buy, 1. Failure to Feed's are common due to the angle of the handgun magazine. (trying to maintain the straight magazine look makes the feeding angle from magazine to chamber very steep some magazines work some just don't) 2. The rear sight has a tendency to loosen and wander off since its not very well secured. @P.woods says either loctite the rear sight set screw on the rear sight base or drill a small hole for the set screw to screw into so it doesn't back out.
Other than that its a sweet NR PCC woodstocked carbine that is pretty affordable.

I’m glad you decided against this for your first. Imo, a first gun should be utterly reliable as you familiarize yourself with working mechanics, techniques, and ballistics. A first gun should not give you a dozen problems to fix at the range without experience. What did you end up deciding on? My first gun was a 10-22 that failed to feed 2-3 times among over 10000 rounds and since then, I’ve gained experience with kitchen table “gunsmithing” and assembling of 7 other platforms all after i gained expertise one component at a time.

Five rounds for semi-auto rifle magazines. A magazine designed for a pistol can legally hold up to 10 rounds of the ammunition it was initially designed for. If that pistol magazine so fits in the rifle, or the rifle is designed to take pistol magazines then that is 100% legal. Welcome to the confusion of Canadian Gun Laws >

Using 124 grain ammunition from the first shot not one malfunction. The local gun store hasn’t had any customers come back to complain, they wouldn’t sell a poorly made firearm . Chiappa is a solid company. The real M1 .30 Carbine wasn’t known for reliable functionality. It was an easy gun to clear a jam and worked. Buy good ammo and stick with the factory magazines.
